As a person having to come to terms with the reality that I won't achieve my dreams, I really encourage you to follow your passion. I was laid off at the first signs of the Pandemic. This is the first video of yours that I've watched ... came over from your update on Steve post Hurricane Helene. I think that the key is to follow your heart ... to do and make videos that you are passionate about. I will watch videos on topics that are not really my own interests if the presenter is passionate about the topic. Great advice and much appreciated. Thank you Liz. I will do whatever I can to be me and I am definitely passionate about art and travel and the sketching the places I go. Thank you.
Marty, I've been following you for a long time and missed your videos when you took some time off. You are a fantastic product reviewer, and I never bought an art supply without checking in to get your great advice. You are a true gem to the art community here on youtube, and I love your field sketching videos. I know whatever you do, it will be great! I highly recommend the book TH-cam Secrets, the 2nd edition by Sean Cannell. It helps a lot to understand youtube algorithms and marketing yourself. I can't wait to see your videos! ❤
That is very kind of you to say and the support means everything. I will check out the book for sure. I'm still learning so much. Thanks for this and for taking the time to leave this comment.
What an adventure! I’m eagerly looking forward to your upcoming plein air painting content! Once you build up some more content, I recommend cross-pollinating with steve Mitchell and Emily Olsen again. That’s how I found you the first time and I bet there are more subscribers looking for more content like yours. I also like how CeCe and steve Mitchell include quotes and thoughtful reflections - I think it brings depth to the content. I wish you great luck!!
Thank you very much for the suggestions and support. Steve is a very good friend and we’ve known each other for many years. I definitely learn from him and we even had a sketch outing planned for earlier this summer but scheduling conflicts ended up interfering. I don’t know CeCe or Emily Olsen, but will check them out. I know there are a so many newer TH-camrs doing great things. Thanks again for the support and suggestions, definitely things I want to do more of.
Thank you very much for the support and for sticking with me as the channel and I adjust to this new normal. All the best and again, thank you so much for your support.
Hello! I'm a fairly new subscriber to your channel and consider myself a newbie learner (focusing on acrylics and playing w/ oil pastels for fun but am so fascinated w/ w/c!). When I recently came across your video where you described the barn having thrown up a road, you won me to your channel, hehe! Thank you for sharing this video and the new direction you'll be exploring. I can completely understand both feelings of nervousness and excitement. I admire you for taking this leap of faith. It's also inspiring me to keep reflecting and taking stock of my life and what I want out of it. I'm looking forward to the national park plein air experience (woo hoo!) and also hope to get a glimpse of how you travel w/ your supplies, how you'll be set up at the campground, etc - from an artist's perspective. I still daydream about fitting out a class B van, visiting national and state parks, wetlands, wildlife refuges, nature preserves, taking pictures, and painting the beauty all around. One day!
Thank you so much for the kind words of support. Thanks for mentioning the video where the barn threw up the road, lol. I looked at that one the other day and it's still the same. :-) I really appreciate the support and I'll try to incorporate some of the set up and things like that for the trip to the national park. All the best and I hope you'll keep watching.
Hey, Marty! You deserve the best life has to offer, and I think your new adventure is going to be the start of something big for you! I can't wait to come along on your journey. Thank you for making this video. Changes can be scary but it sounds like you have accepted that they are inevitable. My mom is 99 and I know that some changes will come in the future, although frankly, the way things are going, she’ll probably be still living at her house when they cart me into a nursing home! Your product reviews have helped me make decisions regarding products that I enjoy (specifically Qor!) You would be a good supply company ambassador, and that might help pay for travel. I know someone who does work for Golden and it sounds like they are pretty good to work for. One thing you might consider doing is teaching an ongoing zoom class. If you take your computer along, you can teach from wherever you are. Also, if you are in the Asheville area in the summer, pm me; you and your wife are welcome to stay with us (assuming you like dogs.)
@@lisathaviu1154 Hi Lisa - Firstly, thank you so much for your support and kindness. We love dogs!!! Ours sadly passed a couple years ago. Life is full of lessons on letting go and re-embracing. Hi Marty! I wish you all the best for the upcoming adventures, with heaps of energy, positivity and good health!! We did a similar plunge a few of years ago and it’s an exciting phase, a bit scary at times, but so rewarding, as everything you do will bring you forward, and everything you achieve you have accomplished yourself. I’m looking forward to seeing your travel paintings and hearing your stories about the places you visit!!
@@brigitteitg Thank you so much my friend, this means a lot to me coming from you. Do you have any advice for me on ways I can improve or be successful?
I fully understand what you are going through. I have been making my living off of my art (mostly creating craft-type patterns, where others can reproduce my designs via patterns) for over 30 years. It has been a long haul and I certainly have times when I am just hanging on. There are many aspects to my business as well. I blog, cut wood for my customers to buy to paint on, and create and write patterns. All the while trying to improve my own artwork and follow my own journey. I am fortunate I live in a rural area, as it is a bit less expensive to live here than in Chicago where I was living when I began. I am working on building my TH-cam up also, but there are lots of plates to spin. That being said, I love your videos and wish you all the best and will be here following you. I work most of the time, but I love what I do and even though it is not a 'get rich' type of job, I feel richer than most because I am doing what I love every day. All my best!
Thank you Sheila. I think you hit it right on the head when you wrote that it's not a get rich job, but you feel richer because you love what you do. That's a great perspective and I'm hoping for the same. I don't know how things will work out, but no time like the present to give it a go.
So much love and respect to you my creative friend, be fulfilled by God’s mercy. So sorry to hear your family has had so many losses Marty, I will pray for you ❤.
Best of luck with your expanded ventures, Marty. You'll be too busy for me to bother you, but if it is how you're taking it to the next level, all the best.

But fir the last 7 years my health has gone to heck...way to much stress in my life..your plans of trave l ing and camping/ painting is what my drea m was. Now that i can no longer even hope to do that ,i really hope you will take me with you. I am jealous but so happy for you. I'm happy to bring you and the viewers along and would really appreciate your thoughts about how I can engage folks more. Thanks for being a Subscriber and for taking the time to share this with me.
Ŵhat i would really love is probably less exciting than other viewers. What i would love watching is you finding a beautiful scene and you sitting and showing how you set up in different settings..for example my last hurrah trip was to iIreland . I found a place that had an interesting landscapde but no place to sit comfortably. I could no longer stand for any time. It was d i fficult to figure how to get comfortable.. your voice is soothing enough so i would probably watch it over and over as i fall as l eep..llol..but you might give me hints , with out being aware, how i could get out with wheel chair an̈d my part time aide and actually doing a little pen and wash..when in my early 60's i thought i would buy a scamp and take off into the wikd with my art supplies and a fishing pole..no such luck..paying for aids and no longer able to drive my jeep put an end to those dreams..anyway,,you will always have an audience..,,@owingsart
Looking forward to seeing this journey. :) Having watched your videos for years now it is good to see this peak behind the curtain. Despite keeping us as you say at arms length, I have always felt that you bring integrity and honesty to your videos and I think that is a great asset on youtube.
Hullo Marty, I believe that if you are going to get your income level up, find the niche where you are creating art for yourself and your viewers! I am retired now and I never got “discovered” but I was able to pay my bills with my artworks and for 35+ years I was a happy creator! I believe that you can find that niche. I have not entered the online art creation, I believe that you have a following that will support you in your endeavors. Letting people know that you are trying to keep going and desire to be self sufficient. Patreon is one of the better platforms that many use successfully. Keep your prices as low as you can and create merchandise! Having a revenue stream that can work for you as you pursue your other art streams. T-shirts are good and everyone has stickers for sale too! Prints of “classic” artworks are already for production, take advantage of the art you have already created. This can be the avenue for new artworks to flow into the merchandise model. Good luck with it ALL, stay safe and enjoy yourself, your viewers will enjoy your content too.
These are great suggestions and very mich appreciated. I am going to try the t-shirts and merch soon, but need to get my bearings here. Thank you for the support and the inspiration.
Are you using affiliate links to several different places? Amazon, jacksons, blick etc. From my understandjng affiliate links can be a good way to go and providing several links to different sites for the items you are using it can generate a good ncome stream.
Hi @artycraftyalchemy - Thanks for the question. Yes I do use Amazon affiliate links, but haven't used Jackson or Blick links, mostly because I very much support my local Art Store, Wet Paint here in Saint Paul, Minnesota and have a good partnership with them. I was weary about even using Amazon links, but find that Subscribers really want the handy links and find Amazon convenient. It's a good reminder though about other streams and I very much appreciate it.
It's understandable that you want to support your local store. However, this might not be an option for your viewers. Especially for international viewers, Jackson's is a valid option, and they have an affiliate program. Check them out to see if it might be something you can use. @@owingsart

Wishing you much success! Can you make an update on how the business side of things is going for you?
Thank you. Yes I can add that to a regular update.

@@owingsart it is my pleasure. You were there on TH-cam in hard moments for me and many of your viewers
@owingsart It didn't look like it did at all, but then when you said it, it was just so unexpected and hilarious! 😄 I'll be tuning in!

For sure whatever direction you take you got it! FYI Just putting it out there for you, are you open to live streaming - maybe when you are on location. Hi Marty, always great to have one of your videos pop up in my sub box.
I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your Father and your in-laws. My heart goes out to you on this and having so many changes in a short period of time.
I'm excited to see this next chapter and what you decide to share here.
When I saw you were doing memberships (&again today) I very much wished I could join &support as your content is valuable and I always really enjoy seeing your sketchbooks and tips you share about painting etc but medical expenses eat up everything (and then some) beyond rent for me. I still value what you share I unfortunately just can't show you with money. However, I am still wishing you nothing but success for this next chapter and I hope lots of people who watch this video and do have the means sign up and support your work here.
I hope you and your wife are doing well and hope you have a great trip! Look forward to seeing what this next chapter has in store for you and the channel :)

@@AnnieThyme Hi Annie - It is so, so good to hear from you my friend. You have supported me and the channel for as long as I can remember so do not for a minute worry about a membership. I’m very sorry to hear about the medical issues. I wondered why you weren’t posting videos, but also didn’t want to be too nosey. Thank you for taking the time to share this kind and heartfelt note with me. Please drop me a DM if there’s anything I can do to help you or you just need someone to listen. You’re a very kind human and I appreciate you.
@owingsart thanks Marty, I really appreciate it (&you). I miss posting so it's always nice when I see videos from ppl I used to talk to more and get a chance to see what they're up to as well! I moved in the Spring so between that and ongoing health stuff it's been a busy year but I am finally (mostly) unpacked and settled in- even if it did take me 5 months to do! I am looking forward to autumn and hope with some cooler weather I will have a bit more energy to do some more art/crafts. I watch your videos more often than I comment so I will try to be a bit better about that and hopefully help out in the algorithm dept if nothing else! :)
I wish you the best with your new adventures. Look forward to seeing you succeed. Currently I am not in a place financially to support but I hope someday.
Thank you for the kind words and the support. No worries about the support now. When you can, I hope you do, but only if you can. I really appreciate you leaving this now and the support. I hope you keep watching.

Hi Marty! I wish you all the best for the upcoming adventures, with heaps of energy, positivity and good health!! I’m looking forward to seeing your travel paintings and hearing your stories about the places you visit!!
@@brigitteitg Thank you so much my friend, this means a lot to me coming from you. Do you have any advice for me on ways I can improve or be successful?
@@owingsart You mentioned a lot of great ideas already and I’m happy to put my thinking hat on! 😊
PS - It IS terrifying. But no paycheck can ever equal the artistic victories. :)
Thank you Sheila. I think you hit it right on the head when you wrote that it's not a get rich job, but you feel richer because you love what you do. That's a great perspective and I'm hoping for the same. I don't know how things will work out, but no time like the present to give it a go.
@@owingsart I think you will do great. You have a lot to offer and it will be nice to see your business grow. :)

Having watched your videos for years now it is good to see this peak behind the curtain. Despite keeping us as you say at arms length, I have always felt that you bring integrity and honesty to your videos and I think that is a great asset on youtube.
Thank you for the long time support, it is greatly appreciated. Change is opportunity right? Hoping you enjoy what you see in the coming months.
@@owingsart
