I used to have this game on a multi-cart, it's pretty fun! Back then I used to think that if I played it long enough I'd eventually fly over land and take down tanks instead of battleships... Wishful thinking I know, but as you can see, there are islands in the distance at one point, I thought that maybe I could get to them...
This game was released in Brazil with 3-1 cartridge along with Super Mario and Duck Hunt. Loads of fun. It came in an NES clone called Dynavision from Dynacom.
Yes, that's either the Zero or the George plane shooting Corsairs! One thing that often puzzled me was why Sky Destroyer wasn't internationally released (Possibly because of battling Americans) and yet in the 1942/1943 games, Capcom made a top-down shooter about an American Lightning destroying THEIR own country's air fleet in WW2?
I had this game when i was a child in my Famicon clone... clones where all we get over here in Argentina... it was so much fun but as you said, really hard
The reason why this game wasn't released in the US is because the plane you're flying is a Japanese fighter plane, the Mitsubishi Zero, and you are shooting down American fighter planes.
+Darius the fat Rex Yeah, so what ? In strategy-based WW II games, you can also often play as Nazi Germany or Soviet union. So what's the big deal ? It's a game not reality (in case you have problems separating the two: the later one is the one with the better resolution and without continue/replay option).
When I played the game back in the early 90's I found that the most dificult thing to obliterate was the Submarines, you had to move at the correct altitude, you had to wait for them to come to surface meainwhile everyone outhere if shiting on you, and then most of the time the Subarine never came to surface, it just trolls you to death ._. And the most strange thing I found in the game was the random Satelite that appears after you blew up the B-24 Bomber, I belive that Satelite gives you 5000 points so I think is one of the most rewarded risks in the game.
Does anyone know how he records his CRT TV without getting any of those scrolling dark bars that usually show up when you try to record video footage on a CRT? I think it's a really cool way to show gameplay footage, while also providing more immersion than you typically get by just capturing the footage directly.
I remember being a kid in Russia and playing this on my Dendy (NES clone, though i didn't know since we had TV adds for it and it was made to look legit). Then we started to get mire movies and VCR became affordable and my dad got the Indiana Jones trilogy and i was shocked to hear similar music. Back then i didn't know about bootlegs and copyright laws. I was just stocked that after last crusade ended, there were Tom and Jerry cartoons after it and on the other side of the tape.
+Banipal Khosrowabadi Nope "God of War" is generic as fuck, since war itself is generic and can be stopped, but "Sky Destroyer" is a way more big and specific since you had the power to destroy the damn sky (or everything on it). Not to mention that the name itself is impressive as fuck. :3
I was ordering a game from Ebay so I could try the ability to play Famicom games in an old Yobo NES clone (you used an adapter to play US NES games in it) and I was deciding between this and Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro (Ninja Kid in the US). Ultimately went with Kitaro. But now that I confirmed that Famicom games will work in the Yobo, I think I shall pick up Sky Destroyer next. Really impressed with the style. And since I can play 1942 till the cows come home, I suppose it's only fair :)
oh I played the crap out of that game, it's one of those (what kids these days would call) "hard" things that you just get used to after a bit... basically it's "try not to get killed while waiting for the red planes to show up and make sure to shoot all of them"
Just for the record There were only 200 F6F/F4U planes shot down in air to air combat. And the F6F shot down over 6,000 aircraft. And the F4U shot down 2,140. This game is weird.
A live action VR shark feeding experience/sim would probably see the first VR related coronary not involving porn. You know some freaky old guy will go and overdo his Occlus funtime before someone makes a VR shark game. It's probably already happened now I remember that the Gear has been about for a while now. Yeah, sharks, VR, I'm definitely not going to remember that as soon as I've finished typing.
0:59 never released in the West? You know why: because in this game you are a Japanese pilot making... an attack on Pearl Harbour 🤪 PS the face of the pilot looks Russian rather than Japanese PS 2 no it's not "a rail shooter", player can fly left/right to avoid/outmanoeuvre the enemies
Looks awesome but I can't justify getting a game where you're shooting down Americans. Especially a game based off historical events. That fucking cartridge would burn a hole through my shelf. No thanks lol
I had this game as a kid when my parents bought me one of those 72 in 1 multi-carts. Agreed it's a lot of fun and worth a play.

Lord Karnage and the CGR show Rocks! Great review.....Thanks for always being great to your patrons and viewers! You rock bro!!!!
I had this game when i was a child in my Famicon clone... clones where all we get over here in Argentina... it was so much fun but as you said, really hard
It was like that in eastern Europe too, we either had a Russian Dendy, or our Polish Pegasus.
+Tincho West In Brazil too, Famicon clone was the only way to play the NES here, this game bring me really good memories.
+Tincho West todos extrañamos nuestras Famicoms y sus 1000 in 1 XD
+Tincho West todos extrañamos nuestras Famicoms y sus 1000 in 1 XD
+Tincho West Just like you said, Nintendo never officialy realeased the NES in Latin-America, that's why
Yes. This was the very first game I've ever seen and played on the NES (it was Famicom)
Great comments Mark! Love your videos!

Yeah, that's what he said.

Frank Schneider in 1985 WWII vets were still in control. Good luck getting this game past any board of directors run by that generation.
That box art is glorious!
Gotta love this wallpaper. So awesome!

Used to have this on one of those bootleg Chinese multicarts. Never got very far with it, but it's nice to see it here on CGR.
I wish there was a Telegram Channel for Classic Game Room. Great game Sky Destroyer, brings back some memories playing on a Famiclone back in the day.
Love the random nod to Jonathan "Fatal1ty" Wendell in the outro.

+MrDrinkingLysol He probably uses a 60 shutter speed setting on his camera, that "syncs up" to the 60 HZ refresh from the TV.
I playing this game on my Famiclone in my childhood
This needs to be on the virtual console for nintendo, or something.

Best Video game name ever!

My fave multi cart nes game.

my friend made me a repro cart of this. Great game
are you back on youtube? or are you still on your site?
Went online and bought the game. :)
Whatever happened to that dude from Ortooonaaaaaa?
nice classic everything!
Considering how old it is, this is pretty amazing. I wish there were games from other ww2 theaters. Battle of Britain would be great!
What's more amazing this game is just something like 16 KB 🧐😳🥳
Interesting, reminds me of a really scaled down version of After Burner II.
Taito was the shit on the Famicom, wish this came out in NA. Time to emulate!
Great job!
Had this on a multicart. Forgot about it
Where can I buy that shirt?
It seems more like you’re flying a B5N Nakajima, or Kate torpedo bomber.
My first game on famiclone!^^,)
oh I played the crap out of that game, it's one of those (what kids these days would call) "hard" things that you just get used to after a bit...
basically it's "try not to get killed while waiting for the red planes to show up and make sure to shoot all of them"
I was 12 the first I played this in 89.
Ah memories. Thanks to famicom I lost my scholarship😂
very cool game
How many games Mark and Susan have sent?
Don't remember, actually... Quite a few for sure.
This reminds me of Tomy's Top Shot Pilot, which itself was a rip off of Top Gun (it had a stick which read, "Best of the Best.") :) .
My favorite patreon supporter is... STEVEN CHUKNICK
+Djclyve
A shame Chuck Norris hasn't contributed yet ...
Jim Moriaty isn't dead?
+Mr. N Nope. But sadly, Jim Morrison is.
+Michael Wolfe And Jim Harrison. :(
+Mr. N
Prof. Moriarty is.

Cool
Go Sharks
why atari/sega fanboy Mark is playing the famicom?
+Nicolas Cortés Yea because he only reviews Atari and Sega games...
Cid333 mark from classic game room reviews everything but sega /atari fanboy mark dont o_o
+Nicolas Cortés To gain evidence of Sega's superiority over Nintendo.

PS
the face of the pilot looks Russian rather than Japanese
PS 2 no it's not "a rail shooter", player can fly left/right to avoid/outmanoeuvre the enemies
looks like mark is playing warthunder, low tier arcade, because all those plebs head on
lol a zero with torpedoes.
This game needs a better theme song, ha.
wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
