Classic Game Room reviews 1942 for Nintendo Famicom from Capcom released in 1985. Relive World War II on your Family Home Computer as you blow up enemy airplanes in your P-38 Lightning! The arcade classic vertical scrolling shooter game rocks on the Famicom with faithful visuals, excellent gameplay and that bizarre ear-splitting music. CGR 1942 video game review shows Capcom's SHMUP classic on Nintendo Famicom (also on Nintendo Entertainment System NES).
Awesome, I love this game! I used to play this at my town's local Chinese restaurant! The owner, Mr. Chu always let me play for free! Ahh the memories! :)
I don't normally like war-based games, but I make an exception with "1942" & "1943". These are two excellent shooters, and I'm glad that they're on the "Capcom Classics Collection" disk.

When you do a loop, it makes the bass drop sound that's in every movie trailer now. 1942 predicted the future.

I remember renting this as a kid, thinking that it was 1943, and being upset that there was no lightning attack or spread gun powerups, LOL! I did have a lot of fun with it though, regardless.
Am I the only one seeing the irony of releasing this game in the market where the planes you shoot and kill were based on ones flown by the Japanese players' fellow countrymen?

I remember playing this game (or maybe a sequel) on arcade machines when I was young. I was never able to make it far, but it was pretty fun! Sadly, arcade machines seem to be slowly dying off.
There's one sequel for every year of WWII. I'd say the best one is 1943 Kai.
This port was actually only published by Capcom, and developed by Micronics. Probably the main reason the sound is so poor.
Micronics was the developer of this game, and Capcom published it for the NES. Micronics made ports of Capcom games for the NES.
This is a great game! The footage looks so sharp in this game, I wonder if Mark played this game on the Retron 5?

Early Capcom arcade ports focused more on gameplay than sound. Ghosts n Golbins, Commando, 1942, all great games. I like the NES version of Strider despite it being completely different than the arcade, made it more like Mega Man. Speaking of early Mega Man, that game is hard as balls but so good!!!! The music kicks ass too!
Have you seen the C64 version of this game? It looks even better and has great music and sound...
I wonder how much the Japanese like WWII games, can't imagine they would be very keen on wanting to remember it.

1942 was a good year for 8 Bit airplane warfare.
I personally think that the best version is on the MSX2. Mark! You should start making some reviews for that system! :)

Capcom's Classic Collection Vol.1, That's good!
1943: The Battle of Midway, That's a direct campaign of Capcom againts Mortal Kombat and maybe McDonald's Soda.
Love this game.

played the arcade version of 1943 first before 1942. I liked 1943 better for a bunch of reasons but mostly for the music. Then I played 1942 on NES and it sounded just like this. 😂 Good game though.

iam16bits you should buy it on ebay...its only like 5 bucks and if you dont have a famicom just buy a clone for like 15 bucks

Vegemite is so disgusting. I think it was originally invented to pack bearings on cars, and it somehow accidentally fell on some toast laying around on a garage floor. Then some Australian guy ate it and said, "Hmm, not bad. But it needs more SALT." Fnasty stuff.
I think of 1942 as my personal meth delivered by my local arcade on my laundry mat. I certain percentage of my pocket change has been invested in to this awesome Capcom kick ass game. Kick ass review man favorite youtube channel.

This was actually one of the very first Capcom games, wasn't it?
It was for the NES in 1986, the others were “Ghosts ‘N Goblins” and “Commando” were all three were released that same year. The game was not developed by Capcom, it was Micronics, the same developed that made “Ghosts ‘N Goblins”, “Tiger-Heli”, “Athena” and other games, and Capcom published it.
If you like 1942, try Sky Shark for the NES! That's a really cheap but fun WWII airplane shooter where you fly a P40 Warhawk and shoot airplanes and bomb ground targets and tanks and stuff and it's really tough. But fun! and is like only $5.00 these days!

Fun factoid! This game is based on the Stephen Spielberg movie starring John Belushi. (just kidding....or am I??)
I thought this game was an insult back in the day and so I promptly returned it and got Trojan instead, which was only marginally better. But at least the music in that didn't make me want to jab my eardrums with flaming hot skewers.
