    The Protein was, by far, the best pedal I purchased this year. I sold a Dualist after playing it for a day or two (it never even earned a velcro application). Rhett is spot-on when he states it’s a great pedal, both using each side independently of themselves or in tandem. Treat yourself to a great overdrive in 2022 and pick one up.

      @@soofitnsexy That's not the pedal's intent because it doesn't do high gain. You might want to try a Revival Drive Hot Rod or The Hot Rod Compact. Their pedals are stellar. I use a Revival Drive Compact for anything Marshall related.

    • @joeygentile7829
      @joeygentile7829 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@soofitnsexy the right side of the pedal is based on a Nobles ODR1. It can bring some good gain and much more than the left side which is like a Blues Breaker. Give it a shot. With the right amp and gain staging between the two sides, it might do what you're looking for. It really is a great pedal and the tones are very amp like.

    I would love to see more pedals with a routable expression pedal input that you could assign to different parameters within the pedal. Kind of like a mod wheel on a synth. Could get some pretty cool textures and such on the sound. Love the content.

    • @lilybeejones
      @lilybeejones 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know it's not the same, but a lot of modelers do this! It's one of my favorite things to use my HX Stomp for. I think you could also accomplish this with a midi pedal, connected to many other midi pedals, but may be harder, more expensive, and limiting.
      In my experience, I've done:
      1. Distortion level after reverb. Expression controls how distorted the reverb is.
      2. Switch between different Harmony sounds.
      3. Waveform of chorus/tremolo/mod to make some random kinda sounds.

    • @b98a4c37

      Or like a control voltage on a modular synth? There are rumblings of modular guitar pedals around. Maybe have a look.

    • @OokisMcFlookis
      @OokisMcFlookis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could have every knob be like a push/pull knob on a guitar, and have it so when you pull it, it assigns that parametre to the expression pedal

      Hotcake has it's own thing and no other overdrives can be an alternative IMHO.
      So sweet and smooth but also thick and punchy.
      Adds more clarity and dynamics while keeping the amp's character intact.
      Definitely a keeper.
      It's not even a clone of some other dirt boxes or particular circuits and the originality deserves further recognition.

      I mean, Hot Cake is cool and all, but...
      PRUNES 👏 AND 👏 CUSTARD
      PC makes two pedals, and they're both killer - but the Prunes & Custard makes sounds I've never heard from anything else. Squelchy, splatty, synthy fuzz that just ruins your signal's envelope. You'll think your amp is broken. It's glorious.

    Fellow verb junky, I have 5 on my board (an always-on RV5 as a medium/lite spring, then Context², Light Pedal, Decent, and Astral Destiny for all my other desires) and there's a 6th I need to squeeze in there I don't own yet, the Old Blood Sunlight. I like having them all at a moment's notice, and to stack, good verb is glorious. I think heavy verb is the easiest tones to just get lost in, you just want to stay soaking and marinating in that space, it's the best!
    I also want one of those NU-33 pedals really bad, only thing holding me back is that crackle switch too, i absolutely adore that feature, I do, but it just seems like what I'd want max level to be on a knob, not a switch :( if that crackle can be less and less frequent with a knob, and have it's own tone knob, and the amount and tone were controllable via expression pedal, omg man, I'd have to have that pedal! I wanna be able to swell those crackles from a few bright instances here and there to where the crackle switch is now, just darker if it's gonna be so constant...so close, yet so far away, I agree the crackle is almost useless the way it is cuz it's just turned up to 11 all the time, it would be insanely useful the way I wish it were, at least for me, and I'd assume I wasn't the only one. That feels like it'd fix the crackle feature. I've been getting into my new BitMap², and that hypothetical version of the NU-33 with the BitMap I feel could be real fun to dive into! I could talk about this stuff all day.

    Giving me some Capt. Kirk vibes, jus' sayin.' I got a laughable amount of entertainment and gonzo tune-age out of the Way Huge Atreides, this year. Also the Red Fuzz 1 via JHS showing off the Lunastone line up. That and the versatile Solidgoldfx Oblivion flange monster. Got a kick out of Teisco's Delay. @@astewart9410 try to get some examples off the internet. Mid scoop and the opposite mid boost is a good place to start. Do that by making a V and upside down version more of a bell. It depends a lot on wether you have a humbucker mid range heavy guitar or strat style how it will react. Both have their uses. What’s great is you can think of it as drawing pictures then fine tune them to your liking. I actually just got a 10 band eq but I have had a smaller one for quite some time. 10 band can be more challenging also more rewarding. Also switch up gain and volume, gain won’t always necessarily sound more dirty it’s odd. be careful not to crank both too loud especially in the effects loop. I prefer to have mine before or after overdrive depending outside the loop. I use my smaller eq pedal going to my 2nd amp for stereo.

    For me, I actually kinda hate the blues breaker BECAUSE of just how transparent it is. When you want transparent overdrive, I'd say it's certainly THE thing to have. However, if I want transparent gain, I'd just use a boost. I don't really like the way they saturate when pushed, but that means I'm stuck with a clean boost. I LOVE the odr1 cause of what it does to my signal. So if I got a protein, I'd basically use the green side, like, 100% of the time. Now, if they made an odr1 and a mostortion in the same box, I'd be throwing money at them lol

    is actually a production model from who knows>>>

    Oceans 12… not new, but as a poor Fender tube spring reverb in the box, later Danelectro, but this is a nice contemporary solution.

    Okay how are the Blues Breaker pedals transparent when there is an early Marshall amp and tone that goes by that name - leaving aside the namesake pedal Marshall made (and why in the world would they call it bluesbreaker if it was aimed to be transparent?) I am not challenging anyone, I am just trying to understand.

    Missing Link Audio's Peacock Overdrive. It's Duane Allman's tone. It just nails it.

    I love the protein but looking at just the blues breaker side, it’s actually not my favorite. If you’re mostly using it as a boost , like Rhett, it’s fine. I’m also a big fan of the duelist, but I’m not sure if you’ll like it, Rhett, due to half of it being a tube screamer.

    Hey Rhett! Have you tried the packrat on bass?

    It would be cool to see jhs do a Marshall pedal in the style of the packrat and bonsai where it has a bunch of their pedals from over the years in it. I’ve got a jackhammer and it’s pretty awesome and I’d like one of their older pedals too

    • @Chord_The_Seeker
      @Chord_The_Seeker 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kodykindhart5644 My main amp is a Landry LS100G3, a boutique, hand-wired, hotrodded Plexi, basically. It has an amazing clean channel too. I also have a PRS MT15, and a Yamaha THR30IIW. My main guitar is a Kiesel HH2, but I also have an Eric Johnson signature Strat, an American Elite Tele, a Charvel Justin Aufdemkampe signature model, and a Chapman ML-1 with Bareknuckle Irish Tour single coils and a Bareknuckle Holy Diver in the bridge.

    Another excellent video. Your technical content is always hugely informative and the tour blogs were awesome. Love your stuff!
    You're an excellent and very knowledgeable player, and by all accounts a good dude. I've talked to people who've met you in person and both related that you were just like the guy we see in your videos ... friendly, aporoachable, just a genuinely good guy all around. So, I gotta tell ya, I was disappointed to catch video content with you and Mason Marangella. Dealing with that kind of person seems out of character.
    Still love your content. 😆
