Ty for the great video. I love where they mention Brumback playing Spaeth in Cincinnati. I live in Cincinnati & used to play against Joey & Gary Spaeth in 9-ball. Unbelievable talents. May they both RIP!! Donny Anderson was another great world champion bank player from Cincinnati & fun to be around!!
Banks has always been the game for TV because we get to see great players going for tough shots and not always making them, so it's more exciting. You don't get this with 9 ball or 8 ball or any other game - they become a predicable snoozefests and that's 1/2 the problem with pool.
Does Billy play much pool or is he just confused with the camera angles at times? Either way great match, great players and always love to hear from Mark Wilson.
He's referring to a little used shot in snooker, the cocked hat double. Its usually played 3 cushions near the corner pocket to the opposite side pocket. I agree though that it didn't really need to be phrased that way or reference snooker at all really. Also, at least say the word 'double' right lol.
"Pocketed the 8 did Brumbeck. Jason Shaw has a shot now. I don't know what I think of all this." Then why do you keep on talking and talking, Bill?! Mark Wilson has interesting things to say, when allowed to. Like others, I came to the comments just to see what others had said about the one commentator. Accu-Stats, thank you for all the lovely pool - want to say it is much appreciated.
Glad you straightened out the "tough roll" comment on the Brumback scratch. I see commentators say that WAY too often, when it is purely an error, as it was there. The return comment about glancing the one makes is even MORE true, not less, as it increases the pocket size which should have made him even MORE wary of that cue ball path/length. I'm betting you very much thought exactly the same thing because it sounded awkwardly silent to me after the return comment. :-/ Sometimes silence is the most courteous response, good on ya. I however, do not feel any such restrictions in this comment section. ;-) I will say I realize it's a lot easier to sit here and comment than to get on that mike, but a little silence is just fine to, no need to always feel like you have to stretch for something to say, like ever second needs to be filled with talk, not for me, anyway. Getting kick scratched into a pocket with a cue ball sitting quietly mid table after a break...THAT is an egregious example of a 'bad roll'. 7:17 cue on the rail elevated 45 to a two diamonds distant object, draw FROZEN to the rail, that sort of shot is why they are pros, and I'm not. I would be lucky to accomplish that one shot in 20. A non player would never have ANY idea how hard that is to do at any reasonable percentage level. VERY fine shot. They also would never know WHY it's a fine shot...I HATE frozen rail orthogonal shots almost as much as frozen over ball cueing, especially if some reverse cue action is necessary. On the scratch "you called that before it happened"...you REALLY did...with any kind of a slight miss hit can lead to...". Your talking equivalent to a successful four railer, so far.
He still shoots some. Bit hunched over with age (we all are getting there), but nice guy and real decent shot. Took me a bit to realize the guy at my local bar was the same guy I kept seeing reffing old pool clips I liked watching.
I am originally from Cincy. I fiest met Gary when he was 11 years old and he was already playing run-out 9 ball. Both Joey and Gary were personal friends and adversaries and both were excellent all-around players. It is a shame that Gary's expertise at banks overshadowed his overall ability which was world class in every respect. Joey was a masterful player and he was obviously very influential in Gary's development. I miss them both.
Right? After the, like say, 5th _punch_ I wanted someone to pinch him in the lip. Made me think it'd be hilarious to see a Celebrity Billards Commentary Death Match using actual audio clips, lol
5:42 "Tough roll". No way. As Mark Wilson said it was not a tough roll. Brumback overhit the cue ball. The other commentator still insisted the cue ball went off the 9. So what? Players who blame it all on the rolls never make it to the top because they are so good at making excuses.
10:35- "Straight back on the two ball." Me- "No way, the three's in the way." He knocks the three out of the way with the cue ball. Wow. Does anyone know- if the object ball is frozen to a rail, does a bank off that rail count, or does it have to hit another rail before being pocketed?
Billy is almost as hard to listen to as Mataya. I like Mark, though. It seems like I have had to mute way too many of Accu-stats videos. You would be better off having one good commentator alone than forcing a second commentator in there who doesn't have the skills to do it well.
