Cheers Mike, genuinely enjoyed this, intentional hiccups and all! 😉 😅
I'm not new to Linux, but music production on the OS is a first for me. I realise I can get my preferred DAW, Ableton on the go, but I'd like to see what FOSS has to offer first.
Looking forward to seeing more production videos and definitely earned my sub. Btw, you sound like you should be doing some spoken jazz tracks 😂👌

Thank you, I am glad it was enjoyable, it has been my ambition to bring awareness of this software to more people. All the music tech people I show it to end up amazed at the power of routing using JACK which is what i think its major strength is, and though it might seem a little bit fiddly to begin with once you understand it it opens up a lot of possibilities. I have seen someone using JACK with Ableton on windows so if you wanted the DAW you are comfortable with plus the routing JACK provides, i think you can. I have never done it but I saw a guy doing it on Windows. With that you would get all of the power of the FOSS stuff plus Ableton, surely that's better?
I do have some new music in the works so i will probably do more of these videos. One of the tracks is a little bit jazzy....hmmm

Great, installing studio controls also uninstalled some other stuff, and can't figure out what your saying in the middle so now there's no sound at all and I can't figure out how to get back to where I was before trying to follow your "tutorial." This is why Ubuntu isn't ready for prime time, plugging in an audio usb device shouldn't require all this, especially given that this is supposed to be an ubuntu distribution made for audio use. I'll try again in a few years, maybe they'll have it together by then.

The problems you have seem to be more with my video than ubuntu studio. I would encourage you to try ubuntu studio first and make a proper assessment for yourself as it will cost you nothing. In fact the latest release uses pipewire which in my opinion has solved linux audio issues, i will be making a video on it soon.

@@oMikekiMo The problem with ubuntu is that while the program may be great, there is no clear guide on how to use it. I'm sure that somewhere, someone has presented clear instructions, but the time required to find the good information makes ubuntu a bad choice, unless you have hours to waste.

Good news for you I guess, I will be re-doing it soon. There is a new lts release of Ubuntu studio and it is based on pipewire rather than JACK, so i need to update this. Was there anything in particular you need help with? Your comment is a little vague but i have made a few videos since this one which might have what you're looking for.
