That wedge is to remove the chuck. If you pull the handle down and then spin the chuck by hand there is a slot. You insert the wedge into the slot and gently hit it with a hammer to remove the chuck.
Awesome. I just bought one and was browsing videos to figure out the purpose of that thing. Thanks.
After much research (because I'm not a machinist) I find that the wedge, using your instructions, removes the entire arbor and chuck together from the quill. The chuck is easily removed from the arbor.
Aha! Glad I found your comment.I don't like have left over pieces after a build. lol.

💪 This is what everyone was searching for. Thank you.
Thanks! Man, without your tutorial I wouldn't have been able to make head or tail of that manual. Was a great help!
very gld you found the video useful - thanks for subscribing!
Helpful video thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
You are completely right with your theory about the oil, they do the same with firearms ( I use Hopp’s #9 to clean it off). Just getting into woodworking and bought the smaller one first, will use that one for counter sinking from now on and getting this one this morning when they open. Thanks for the video.

Getting the table angled correctly was a great tip. Probably a basic step but I've never owned one before. Thx.

I cleaned out the debris on the threads of the base with a nylon bore brush. It worked great.

Thanks for telling me about that wedge!!!! I didn't know what it was for & the owners manual didnt help me!!!!
HF if one of the few manufactures that still supply that piece with their drill presses - Thanks for subscribing!
the wedge tool is used by lowering the drill chuck till you see a slot in the shaft you put the wedge in, flat side up tapered towards the chuck, then simple start hitting it with a mallet and the whole chuck assembly will fall out
Good info - thank for subscribing!
i think the wedge that no where in the manuals says how to use it is for removing or wedging off the drill chuch and the morris taper? i think i saw a hole for the morris taper when you turned the handle to lower the drill chuck. the hole is above the drill chuck when you lower the handle.
thats exactly what its for!! not just to remove the chuck but to be able to add other tool heads such as a Tapping head
Thanks sir
All the best - thanks or subscribing!
@@snapwholeharborfreightreviews How big is your chuck on this
I use my drill press for mortising chair rungs and table legs
good use for this drill press - thanks for subscribing!
Been thinking of picking this ip since its on clearance for 60 or if i shoild go for the 8inch bauer for 80
I would go for the bauer - it is a little better, and if you might get a coupon to get it a little cheaper - while this is a good light duty drill press, the bauer is a little better and will be around longer if you need to get a replacement for some reason - thanks for subscribing!
That tool you are using to tension the motor is used to remove the chuck to replace it when it wears out

Still happy with it some months later? Just bought one, enjoyed your video!
I am still happy with it, I use it all the time, you do have to be patient with it to avoid a little bit of flex - Thanks for subscribing!
I lost the Chuck key. Anyone know where to find a cheap replacement?
harbor freight sells a 4 way chuck, it will work, but be warned the other three sizes dig into your hand while using it - thanks for subscribing!
Hah! I got the toy one and replaced the motor with a 1/2 Treadmill motor with speed control have not wired it in yet still working on it as I am doing some add-ones.. Yup cheap but you need to know your limits so I kept it under 1hp.
