The one thing that most off road manufacturers miss is the interior construction. They use the same internal cabinets, swap the suspension to independent and throw in a lithium battery and you’re done. I’ve seen off road caravans with fridges falling out, cupboards moving on the wall and shelves collapsing.

Great video. We hired a van before buying small used van no regrets now upgrading. I wouldn't buy new without owning or renting a couple of vans as it is big investment and need to know van is right for you.

Hi Paul, another great vid. One thing though, for an off road van you should get a heavier chassis and suspension (tick) but what about the "off road" screws that hold the cabinetry together? I did the GRR last year in my "off roader" and the only problem I had was finding a place for all the screws I found on the floor. :)

A standard tourer say older caravan with independent suspension and a good chassis can be easily raised 50mm to a semi off road van height. Larger wheels could then be fitted to give extra lift if required. This procedure is inexpensive and can be done at home with basic skills. However people do want the biggest and best to impress.

Hi Paul. Good video. I like to add for intrest. I have the same camper / hybrid caravan as going overland. Go and have a look at his ev video and change to camping in the future. Very intesting video. I have made it great for two people. I have a heater that sits on the side and vents in. A little portable air con if need a generator. It's been lower than the car and the same width. I can go 95% of places in Australia. I have the joolca shower tent and slide out fridge freezer.

Hear so many people needing to repair the damaged interiors of the vans after going offroad. That can be an almost impossible job on the road.

Hi Paul enjoyed your video, great tips as always.
Like to know Do you know of any organisation that can teach you 4wd and towing caravans on semi off road. Have been towing but need alot more knowledge.
    Cheers
    John

If you join any of the many 4 wheel drive clubs, they will offer you 4x4 training. In some states you can take a same day trailer training

Difference between semi offroad to offroad is light Awd car vs 4wd centre diff lock with low range.

No big box caravan is true off-road despite the BS marketing. The true off road are campers like Ultimate, Tvans or Vista RVs
