I almost forgot this ending existed. I got this screen once sooo long ago. I played Fallout 2 a lot as a kid that I was shocked one day while playing when I got it.
I got the same shock playing far cry 4 for the first time. Started doing something on my phone and bam, beat the game

What were you doing in all that time? You should have exhausted all of the content in the game LONG before reaching 13 years, even if you play very slowly.

@@lithuaniaball youre forgetting that it had been 10 years since the last mainline fallout game between fallout 2 and 3, bethesda HAD to reintroduce things like supermutants or enclave or the brotherhood for new players
That was by far the saddest moment in fallout, I was collecting every item in the game and storing them in the gas station lockers when I got it :(

Yeah this feels more like it’s a gentle game over for the Chosen One like “You completed your journey for the G.E.C.K. long ago, but your adventures were far from over, so you continued your journey, and made more friends along the way. After 13 years, you pass away peacefully in your bed, knowing that your life was one worth living”
That’s how I like to imagine they’d script it if they had given Ron Perlman lines for that game over/ending screen

What the video doesn't show is the sound effect of harsh blowing wind while a menacing chord plays, which makes this screen honestly really creepy
Nowadays, you can change a setting in the cfg file so the calendar will reset once you hit the 13 yr limit for infinite play. It does however make calendar based events replay like the Frank Horrigan introductory encounter, and tbh you can explore everything Fallout 2 has to offer in a third of the time limit.

I'd like to call this one: "The Stroke" Ending.
This screen was like a jumpscare for me the first time I encountered it years ago, I though my character died or the game broke.
Having finished the main quest, I basically drove around the map, having decided to become a mass murdering child killer so that the toughest bounty hunters would come after me. I wanted to see how long it'd be before they finally finished me and my companions off. After countless encounters and crippled limbs, this screen game on and it got me good. I felt like the game had decided enough was enough and end my reign of terror there and then.

I once replaced the Hakunin cutscenes with the End Screen, because I'd rather look at that than Hakunin's loud ass jumpscare.
I only know of this screen because as a kid I wanted to build the perfect character, I got to level 96 from playing the game with every combat perk in the game and 999 hit points. Unfortunately i wasn't able to make it to level 99 as this screen preventing me from farming even further.
@VoltDenatsu We had a lot of time before the internet. It's why Pokemon was still "Gotta Catch em All!" even after it was almost impossible to do so without HOURS of trading and grinding. Only recently it changed to fit with GenZ and Alpha.
Hense why they made the time limit so long, it's in order to let you have almost 100 lvls

@@zestyvoyage2188 Well shit, I figured it was with the D/P games on DS that lost it. At least they still have those certificates in-game for completing the Dex right? I know that used to be a thing too, and I think in OR/AS they noted when you brought a Pokemon from the actual GBA game.
To be fair, 13 years? You probably finished everything by then.
Fun fact: Fallout 1 has one of the least amount of ending slides, along with F3 n 4.
However, it wasn't supposed to be the case. And despite some of your choices made, some of them might not actually matter.
F1 has tons of bad endings n good ending slides which are broken.
For example, BOS has mutants bad ending, but even if you exterminate, every, single, member, you'll still get the ending where BOS exists, they'll just become more isolationist. You were supposed to get bad ending aka super mutants taking over ending if you either 1)wasted too much time exploring and super mutant army reached the bunker or 2) there was a cut quest where you could help a super mutant to destroy BOS (don't remember how)
And Hub has one of the GOOD endings being cut
Because you can't snitch on Bob and his cannibal business to authorities, you'll never be able to end his business, which is one of the requirements to get good Hub ending meaning Hub always dissapears after Super Mutants attack(even tho canonically Hub surviving is supposed to be canon ending)
Other broken ending is, I think Junktown super mutant ending is broken and I know for sure Followers of the apocalypse is broken, because of a certain quest.

Also originally Junktown was supposed to die off if you went with the sheriff because he would go insane and start hanging anyone who were lawbreakers but they cut that out from the final version for being too dark, Gizmo was supposed to be the one that would make Junktown prosperous under his dealings almost makes it like a mini New Reno, later ending with Gizmo has him choke on food to death if you leave him alive for whatever reason
@@TheKnightOfSmite I mean Junktown still becomes prosperous under Gizmo, moreso than with Killian. Although with Killian it becomes less corrupt.
I played so much fallout 2 as a kid I got this ending and after a Google I went "shit well guess I'll do oil rig".
I got this screen by seeing how high I could get my character level with the in game FO2 Guidebook. I was super confused 😂

When I was younger like 8 (24 now) I use to play on my dad's saves with the cheats before the training wheels came off, I had a save that was idk something like 30 minutes saved out from this end screen and I never knew why till now lol

Eh, the Institute as a concept wasn't really made till Fallout 3.
In fallout new vegas you can shoot mantis oothecas which will cause a bunch of mantis babies to spawn out of it. Good for early game experience in the goodsprings school and all you need to do is step on them.
This reminds me of BG2 SoA’s Throne of Bhaal where you can actually have a baby if you are masochist enough to wait enough time for Aerie to actually give birth, nice detail
someone should make a postapo game where time is more of the essence and centuries pass on - to start in let's say 2101 and do things with starting character, which influence a new character that you play as in like 2131 and so on.
Playing Fallout from before the war, through the Great War, and aaaaallll the way up until Fallout 4 and beyond.

a guy who lived down the hall from me had F2 and i bought his computer from him to play F2 and beat it. that was in japan of 2000. i came home and bought F2 and installed it on my computer and there was a glitch. apparently the game time would progress way faster because of the "advanced" processor at that time. so i would try to farm levels and would hit the 13 yr time limit in like 5 earth hours of gameplay. apparently its fixed now in 2024 but i still reload my saves when farming from habit.

I didn't even know _Fallout 2_ had post-ending gameplay. I thought _Fallout 3's_ Broken Steel DLC was the first to introduce this mechanic to the series.
If I remember right, there was cut dialogue in New Vegas indicating that there was supposed to be a post game without dlc. (It was dialogue based on whatever faction the courier sided with I think)
I think they added post-game because all of the major sidetrack quests (becoming a made man, starring in an adult movie, etc.) didn’t match up with how urgent the first main quest was compared to fallout 1, Arroyo was on the verge of death but they didn’t want the player to feel like they’re actively ignoring all of it to live it up in the side quests
so with a post-game, you can do what you have to do to save everyone, and then after that you can do all of the other wacky stuff in the in-game world without worrying

The game keeps track of how much time has elapsed in order to make the calendar work, and at some point that number reaches the limit of what a computer, at the time, could process, and it's easier to just put in such an endscreen rather than coming up with an actual workaround for something so rare.

The only way to see this is to use console commands to artificially advance the in-game time to July 25, 2254.
Arbitrary limits in RPGs bug me, even if it’s highly unlikely that I’ll run into them. It’s probably the psychological pressure in the back of my mind, whispering to me that I’m on a timer, and it stresses me out🤷🏻♀️ Would be cool if someone makes a mini mod for the game that removes this limit…
In Fallout 1 the “arbitrary” limit was actually a great game mechanic that forced the player to actually acknowledge their responsibility to Vault 13. I like that ignoring the main quest had a consequence.

I remember getting this screen when I tried to grind experience by killing enemies in random encounters.
My thoughts back then were that maybe it happened because my character just became “too old for this sh.t”.
