  • I've been meaning to make this video ever since I attended the Chris Cornell Tribute Concert where Josh Homme performed his rendition of Soundgarden's Rusty Cage. I now understand what took me so long. THIS SONG WAS HARD TO FIGURE OUT!! Now you can benefit from my pain and suffering by learning to play Rusty Cage from this tidy ten minute video. Cheers and good luck!

Hey Ryan , you done a fantabulous job ... I know you said all the SoundGarden songs are exhausting and are a lot more than intermediate guitar level ... I really want to Thank You for any SoundGarden material you cover ... Everyday I find out a new reason to blow my mind how musically talented Chris was ... and seeing how this song is played is my reason today ... Chris doesn’t get enough credit as a guitar player ... Along with him , Thayil , Mcready and Gossard are my all time favorite

Ryan Lendt I hope you got that list of songs I been asking ya about , ‘ Half - SoundGarden , Come bite the apple - Mother Love Bone , ‘ Nothing to say ‘ - SoundGarden , ‘ bleed together’ - SoundGarden and I have a question for you ... which version you like better of Evenflow ... the earlier with Dave on drums or the faster , really speeded up version with Matt on drums

When we played around with this song we used a Crybaby and kept the angle aligned in such a way that it ALMOST sounded right while running through a Boss Super Chorus and Boss Flange with some subtle outputs. But man that was back in the Triassic period when I was in college in San Marcos. I'm honestly surprised I remembered that much.
Dude...BIG fan and really appreciate you putting this up. I'm gonna get on this today instead of working. Peace, sir!!!

Totally agree that I don’t know how someone can sing and play a super difficult thing at the same time. Cheat! Make vocals the priority. That’s how I roll.

    Hi Ryan.
This was a really great lesson and entertaining as well.
I’m 2-1/2 years into learning guitar. I started late though at 58.
It’s easy to play the way you have presented it. All it took was practice everything in the correct order a lot and soon it’s amazing how it sounds.
The sound I found best was run my Schecter on both humbuckers into a Muffuletta Fuzz pedal into my tube amp with some quick slapback.
Like you said no one likely has the same pedal as the original artist.
To me it sounds like they used a Leslie effect as well maybe?
Thanks again for such a cool channel!

    man....i love you
your videos are straight to the point, yet still funny as hell, and you are incredibly knowledgeable
If I were you, I'd make a lesson for every song you've ever learned
I think your edge is marketing yourself to intermediate/expert guitarists rather than beginner
as we don't all need to learn how to hold a pick and tune before we learn a song that's way out of the scope for a beginner
(.........hint hint every other fuckin channel
this video is done and complete before your video is done teaching me the difference between the A and the D string in your leason teaching me how to play cliffs of dover)
