When buying an 05 to 09 Mustang, be sure to inspect the rain vents located under the hood right under the wipers. I have owned two stangs and both had clogged drains when I bought them. There is a rubber gromit that can easily get clogged from leaves and other debris. Once its clogged it will cause rain water to come in on the passenger side floor (I learned this the hard way with my first 05). Its A small problem with an easy fix but can cause a lot of damage if it goes unnoticed.
Damn, I had to look up what SJB stood for 😂. How much did it cost to replace, my wipers haven't worked for a while and I'm thinking its either the wiper motor or the SJB. The fuses tested good.
I just bought this exact same car...A GT in Legend Lime, 5 speed, same color leather interior, same wheels, all original. No door panel issues, well maintained, and runs great !
Sadly the door cover on my 2009 started coming off but I used adhesive and it seems to be working. The leather in my car looks perfect. People don’t realize leather has to be conditioned. If you condition leather it will last forever.
I have 100000 Miles on my 05 gt now and the car still runs great knock on wood. The only problem I ran into was changing the spark plugs. 3 of them broke while taking them out and had to rent a special tool to get them out. I have a manual transmission and the trans still good.
spark plug design was also changed with head designs in later 08-09, this also brought a change in the charge motion plates being integrated into the intake manifold itself.
I have a 2008 vista blue GT/CS convertible. So far, she runs and looks great! I like this body style better than the newer ones. I feel the s197 body style reminds me of the original 65-67 body style. Anyways, peace and have fun!
I used to have a 2006 mustang GT and I loved it. I had 92k miles on it before I decided to trade her in, now I'm looking into buying another one. I only had the side panel leather issue, other then that it's a rock solid vehicle.
angel flores VERY. I've driven the car hard it's whole life. I flushed the transmission every 30k miles and regular cleaners in the fuel and oil. The only issue besides the leather on the doors falling off was the radio system not working all the time, but the car was old and daily driven. Maintenance was cheap, but tires and spark plugs cost me plenty from driving hard.
exactly the kind of video I was looking for. Great job man! I have a 03 v6 and ive been looking to upgrade and have been wondering about the s197s and some of the problems to look out for.
Glad to help! Good S197s have (as of this writing) dipped into the four-figures. 9,000 dollars might just do ya for one, and they're worth every penny!
you forgot to mention several other issues... headgasket issues from 05-07 were common due to the lack of a coolant crossover. 05-07 also has water pouring into the passenger side through the blower motor due to a grommet issue by the cabin air filter getting clogged in the bay. Then there are also vct issues from getting worn or dirty. Overall it isn't a terrible platform for the cost though.
A tuner such as a Brenspeed SCT4 will erase that cluster gauge code problem and reset the gauges back to normal. The code is P0463 which relates to the electronics in the fuel pump.
Found myself a good deal on an 05 V8 in blue for around 6k dollars with no problems other than it being 110k on the odometer, but it's over 100 miles away. Is it worth it?
Nice find, I found my self a 05 with 100k miles for $2000, they said that 2nd gear grinds and hopefully they didn't fuck the transmission up too much. I really want that car trying to set up a test drive as I type this.
Great video. Considering an 07 gt 5 speed with 84k for 14k. Or getting a 12 5.0 manual for 24k. Big price difference obviously so this is a hard deacon. I just like cruising and occasionally having some fun. Great video and beautiful car man. Looking forward to more videos of your car man.
I bought a V6 Legend Lime Premium with the black leather interior brand new in 2005. It only had 6 miles on it the day I picked it up. I still have it to this day and it only has 36k for mileage. I've always kept it garaged and the undercarriage doesn't even have any surface rust. Not bad for the Northeast. I had several dealer options installed as well. The vent louvers on the rear side windows painted the same color as the car. The black rally stripes, the stainless dash inserts and the honeycomb panel on the rear deck lid. Oh and the rear spoiler, which did come from factory. I've been lucky so far I guess as to not have any problems with the interior door cards and don't know if I will. They appear to be pretty much 1 piece, plus it's not two-tone but who knows.
I love the color man. I have a 2010 5 speed with only 9K miles on it. It's red candy metallic, but I'm thinking about getting it painted grabber orange. That's going to cost a grip of cash though.

With 120,000 miles, don't pay more than $10,000 unless this Mustang is literally flawless. As an example, the car in this video had a few blemishes and 97K on the clock, and was $10000. So for the one you described, I'd pay within the high $8,000-$9,000 range.
