Put the kitten in the bathroom, with the door closed, (with food/water/litter-box, naturally), for a few days, and the older cat, that you have, will come to feel sorry for the kitten, and they’ll start to bond shortly thereafter. It may sound crazy, but it works, trust me.
How old is Miss Kit? Consider keeping her inside until she’s 12 weeks old before letting her out (after all vaxs and spay). We’ve been breeding for almost 30 years & giving cats time to get used to each other’s scent helps a lot. Enjoy her antics!
It just takes time for new and old cats to get along. If you have a small kennel for the kitten, try putting it in the shop in the kennel so mama kitty can get used to its scent without direct access. This also allows mama kitty to approach when she gets curious rather than being overwhelmed by the kitten.
What a little cutie! Welcome to the family, Ms. Kit! You might try feeding Momma Kitty some treats when bringing them together to show her she gets rewarded by tolerating the new cat on the property. Eventually she'll warm up and hopefully before she's gone, can show Ms. Kit the ways of the Shop Kitter.
The easiest way to introduce them is to feed them together. Put the kitten in a kennel because she's just going to be curious and run up on momma kitty. Slowly move their bowls closer together. It might take a week or more of this. I would also let the kitten in a kennel in the shop while you're in there. Momma kitty will slowly feel her out. It's all about baby steps. You might have times where you have to move the kitten out away from momma kitty. That's to be expected. Basically, the trick is to make momma kitty feel secure in her territory. Let her decide when the kitten is completely allowed to roam free. We have five rescue cats in a house that is under 1000 sq feet. We just got a new rescue last summer and that is what we did. Kept them separated and slowly introduced them. There was some hissing and growling, but eventually they all got used to each other. A couple of weeks ago, we had some drama, and had to do that with two cats that have known each other for years, all over a misunderstanding. Things are back to normal now though.
I'd always heard to keep the kitten in a room for a few days and have the older cat on the other side of the door. Then have them swap places for a day or so. It gives them a chance to get familiar with the scent, etc.
I've got at any given time 3-8 cats of varying ages that are outside cats but have access to my garage where their food and water are. I have zero rodent issues.
Yesterday we discovered 2 kittens and their momma living under one of our outbuildings. I know that feeling. Looks like I’ll have a few shop cats as well. As always, the hairpiece is exceptionally styled and I’m sure that’s the reason the cat is so fond of you.
I love to see that you love cats! There's so much hate for cats in the world. It makes no sense. It's very refreshing to see you show your love for them. Thanks.
Multiple successful cat introductions by keeping them in adjacent rooms with a closed door that they can sniff and interact under, then swap rooms every once in a while so they acclimate to the scent. It lets them get used to the others' presence without the impulse to feel defensive or territorial.
I had an 18 year old cat that was in deteriorating health a few years ago. A chance to adopt a kitten came along and I took it, and that kitten and the older cat got along really well (after a bumpy first few days). I think it prolonged the older cats life, he went on to age 20 whereas when I got the kitten his health was so bad we and the vet were thinking just weeks left. That kitten you've got there is a little sweetie :)
This guy is to good for the world. What a champ. Edit: ex rancher, type 6 engine crew hand, and current zookeeper here. If you ever need animal handling advice hmu good sir!
We had the same problem with ours... We just gave them their own space and a common area until the got used to each other. They calmed down in a few weeks, but are still not the best of friends, they tolerate each other. Feeding time makes them forget any tensions and they will even share a bowl! lol
Miss Kit is adorable! I had a cat that I rescued from a friend's home. His 20 year-old son wasn't taking good care of it. I took it for medical attention and told them that he was not coming back to their home. He was my best buddy for 14 years. I miss him. I'm not ready for another pet, but when I am, it will be another cat.
If they have issues try feeding them on opposite sides of a door over the course of a few weeks, give them treats/catnip on their respective sides at the same time as well
House sat five months in a four hundred year old house w seven kittens and that was one of the best winters ever lol. Great addition to your family! Congrats
Believe it or not, she’ll eventually warm up to her and you’ll be pleasantly surprised with what you see. I’ve got upwards 18 cats myself. Enjoy the new family member!!!
Yep, I am a dog kind of guy, but a few strays showed up in the neighborhood. Snakes, mice and such disappeared. Several of the wives made sure they have food and water. Mine included. Anyway the inevitable liter was born. One has adopted me. Got to admit they are unique little critters! Congrats to you all!
Sir, I suggest a ride in the truck. When both of them are curious and looking around at what’s going on, and you’re the cause of this insane voyage, they WILL bond. Take them out together and you be the “bad guy” (or the cause of concern at the moment) Make lots of noise. Drive them around your land. Hit some bumps. Talk to them. I guarantee they’ll be a lot closer friends after a perimeter ride.
Welcome, Miss Kit!😊Thank you Jack for bringing this new little furry one to join the family! Each are likely unique in personality, but hopefully...in due time, Miss Kit will be able to adopt some of Mamma Kitty's good traits & wisdom. 🐈🐈⬛
Ok, I am probably going to watch this about five times-at least-because she is so adorable. I will make sure I tune in more if you promise some cameo appearances by Miss Kit!
If she's like my cat, there may be very little you can do to get them acquainted. It will require a lot of supervision because older cats will try to protect their territory.
shes adorable. just lost my cat of 13 years a few months back and I wish I had another cat to help me though that and this time of loosing him. im sure the kitten will do and help more then you will know. also hope mamama kitty warms up to the little miss.
I just lost my 19 year old cat exactly 1 week ago today, I am sorry for your loss, They really do become like members of our families don't they? I already have a shop cat on my property still, I can't imagine not having a cat at all!
Our crotchety old cat eventually gave up and accepted the other one. Ultimately, the kitten will figure it out without guidance, they’re pretty feral at the end of the day.
My chickens found 3 baby birds 4 days ago after a bad storm, been taking care of them indoors. Hard to get stuff done when they want fed every 3 hours. My old cat was 25 years old when he died 2 years ago (in 9 days), he didn't like a new kitten for about 2 weeks, then taught him things and let him do his own thing
Cats have humbly taught me more than I can say....... they are not the dumb ones some think they are. They are very aware of situations in a keen way. They also can act very stealthy (not just sneaky or invisible ways) like mimicking other animal sounds. Finds here on YT the cat that gets busted barking like a dog out the window...... hard proof!! But wait, there's way more.....
We have had 3 different cats at different times and when together they each became tolerant of each other's space, showing respect to the older cat that set its dominance from the outset. They will eventually become closer and start working together if the opertunity arises. Not good for local wildlife but desimating for vermin.
I have two shop cats they keep the mice at bay . Put the kitten in a wire crate in shop at night or during the day they will get use to each other though the crate
I got a new kitten last year, mix between Norwegian Forrest cat and ragdoll (mom ragdoll, dad norw.). My 14yrs old moma cat did not approve, tho she is domestic but majorly roams the plains around here, unless its too cold or wet. She will come around, might take 3-4 months but they will "bond" and cats never fuq around food either, so feed them together, but make sure kitten does not steal from moma!
It’s always great to see men who appreciate the companionship of cats and don’t give into the stigma. Cold Stone Steve Austin is also a cat man, believe it or not.
I had a Siamese kitten that had free roam in a 3 story house. She grew up. Then we rescued another adult Siamese. Figured a large house was enough to give them space. Big mistake. I’m reading the newspaper in my easy chair and from behind me with a giant flying leap, fangs and claws bared is our first Siamese letting me know what she thinks of the newcomer. She bit me in the head. I was dumbfounded and angry of course. Couldn’t believe my longtime cat went psycho on me. She ran away cause she knew she was a bad kitty. Eventually, we got back to normal but wasn’t easy.
Put the kitten in the bathroom, with the door closed, (with food/water/litter-box, naturally), for a few days, and the older cat, that you have, will come to feel sorry for the kitten, and they’ll start to bond shortly thereafter. It may sound crazy, but it works, trust me.
I was going to say literally the same thing. That's what we had to do
Put both cats together or just the kitten? What if one or both are initially hostile?
@@groverw7507 Keep them separated; the kitten in the bathroom, and the older, (or existing), cat free roaming.
How old is Miss Kit? Consider keeping her inside until she’s 12 weeks old before letting her out (after all vaxs and spay). We’ve been breeding for almost 30 years & giving cats time to get used to each other’s scent helps a lot. Enjoy her antics!
@groverw7507 if you put both cats in there, you WILL have a cat fight
That's how the us forest service is temporarily compromised.

That’s what we do with our dogs and cats when introducing a new member to the homestead. Makes them curious rather than feel invaded.
We’ve done the same. It works about 80% of the time.
I thought this was Jack's engagement announcement.
I thought he knocked up a girl lol

we all won the lottery

Momma kitty sees you are giving too much affection and attention to the new kitty! Keep it balanced
West coast man is a crazy cat lady.
2 cats? Try going to a farm once. Dog people suck lol
@@701chevy9imagine not having both. The absolute poverty…

Nothing better than kittens, pure innocent love! Congrats
And great pest control

I see you've put on the Mk7 to impress the kitten! A fine model.

Jack you did a great job on picking the new kitten, Miss Kit!

May this little kitty catch many mice and give ya'll lots of love
I've said it before. I'll say it again: all kitters need smooches.
Kittens are truly a blessing, but they grow up fast don’t let it pass you by!
Congrats! She's adorable!
Beautiful kitten 🐈⬛ I love cats. Kathy and I love seeing momma cat.
I had two barn cats a few years ago. I’ve always considered myself a dog person.
Now I’m a dog and cat guy. Congrats on the new kitty.
A small kennel for kitten, and swap out so kitten can run around and get scent on things slowly.

My experience is cats either like each other or they don’t. Haven’t had any good experience with time curing a bad initial meeting.
