Great review of this classic! I still have the original my dad bought me for Christmas 1981. Almost 40 years later, both of my daughters love playing it!

It is good that you reviewed it. After hearing that Restoration Games is trying to remake it, do you think you will have a chance to think it will be similar as this?

Quite a piece of gaming history. This game is like a precursor to the modern games that need an IPad app to play. I also hear that there are phone apps that simulate the Tower.

Whoa! That box is huge! It almost scared The Brigans outta me! Lol lol 😃😄😄 😄 I thought it was going to be a smaller box. The box is cool with the comic book like art work. The game is kinda played like Zelda video games in a sense. Great video of the game. Thank you.

I like the effects of the video when you spin the video like how the tower spins the images on the screen.

me and my cousin had a paranormal encounter with a dark tower board game when i was a kid. the actual tower is a battery operated center piece that would make sounds. well me and my cousin kept hearing it go off randomly from under my aunts bed. it took us a while to figure out where it was coming from, but we found it and pulled it out only to find that the tower didnt have batteries in it. it continued to go off for months until my aunt sold it in a yard sale. i was just thinking about it and decided to look it up on youtube...

A Fan made an iOS version. When I got mine a long time ago the motor stopped working. I fixed it by doing what I did to my old Kenner Star Wars vehicles. I show how I fixed those on my channel. Toys in those days used a 3 volt motor and plastic gear to make sounds or in this case rotate the images inside the tower. I took the bottom off and carefully rotated the gear with my finger. You can also use sewing machine oil after that. It should be run once a year so the motor doesn't seize. I looked it up. I paid $205 shipped with insurance off eBay in 2004 ($187.50 + 18.00 S&H)

Really glad I have this game. My uncle got this when it came out so I didn't have to pay the crazy prices. Tower quit working but I was able to take it all apart, clean it, reassemble it and it has worked fine ever since. Came across one once at a thrift store for $50, the only time I ever saw it, but I passed as I wasn't into reselling at the time.

The Dark Tower itself is literally one of the coolest board game components ever! I can honestly see why this game goes for such crazy prices nowadays (and even back when it came out to my knowledge).

My favorite board game. I got this in the 80's. I still have it. The box is in worse condition than yours but the board is good and all the pieces are there. The tower quit working though. We used the app to play it recently. My niece didn't like the app, she thinks it's programming is off. She got the dragon probably six times in one game and it wouldn't give her a key. Her teenage son really wasn't interested but we made him play, still not a fan. The winning strat I've learned to use is to go straight to the bazaar and buy a beast first to carry my gold. You can never lose your beast so even if all your men are killed in a battle, you won't lose gold (except to the dragon or curse). Next I get a scout. I never buy the healer because he can mess up the troop count in the end game when I'm trying to double my army at the citadel (for example when I'm trying to double 24 men up to the max of 48, just before I get to my citadel the healer can give 2 extra men and the citadel won't double 26). I very rarely buy food or troops, the sanctuary gives those for free if I really need them.

I remember having this game in the early 90's. God I miss it. Luckily there's the flash game I can still play on my PC, or the iOS App on my iphone which is really faithful to the game. It was just so cool having the pieces and the tower, loved all the artwork and plastic pieces and how they felt. Really wish we had ours still, sadly think my dad threw it away or sold it back in the late 90's because we had a ton of board games and they got rid of all of them iirc. I think this goes for $500 now on Ebay..
This one and The Omega Virus were my two favorite board games I remember playing a lot. I believe this also goes for about $400-500 on ebay too.

pro tip for keeping this game running, trim your nails so you dont wear out the keypads, also take it apart from time to time and use plastic safe grease on the gears and pivots, never leave batteries in it, run it from time to time to keep the little motor from sticking.
