I got arrested for something that resulted from this. Resident of my old apartment stole my identity after I moved out, used my identity to commit a crime, and then I got arrested. Elmore County Sheriff's office wasn't experienced enough to investigate this crime, so they more or less used perjury to indict me, then I followed documentation that I had on record and discovered the resident of my old apartment had forwarded my mail to a fake address.
The postal inspectors are full of it. This video is from 2017 and I'm currently the victim of this scam. They changed my address, obtained my social security number and have opened a 13K credit card in my name. Still can't get it off my credit report. I did everything the "Postal inspector" advised in this video and 2 months later I still have not been in contact with anyone from the postal inspectors office.
How did you get it fixed? I warned the dumbass USPS over a month before my address was stolen when I realized a scammer posing as a legit company was about to do it. that it was going to happen. God knows what these shitbags are getting in the meantime.
This happened to me in September of 2019. First I received credit cards in my name and another person's name (a person I did not know). I had not applied for a credit it card. Eventually I learned that all of my mail had been forwarded to some mysterious address hundreds of miles away. I lost a $3500 check among other valuables. The United States Postal Service swore up-and-down that it was impossible for someone else to forward my mail. This is obviously not true. Anyone can forward your mail to any address at any time from anywhere in the United States. It is 2022 now and I doubt anything has changed. The USPS is incompetent.
@Chloe Great - In my case all of my information has already been stolen - so getting a P.O. Box wouldn't deter criminals or make any difference. But, I seriously doubt having a P.O. Box would have prevented this in the first place. If your identity has already been stolen then putting a hold on all three of your credit Bureaus would be most effective in preventing further crimes. This is what I've done - putting a hold on my credit so no stranger can create a credit card using my name.
And will not compensate victims! They broadcast it on other news channels about equifax and transunion compensating and but doesn't. Instead make matters worst. Get a lawyer like i did!
Report immediately...then you find out they're also in on it. I'm so sick of corrupt people.

@Chloe Great I created an account with the USPS and monitor my mail weekly. That was how I found out my mail was forwarded for a second time.
@Chloe Great - A data breach is a common method that can lead to identity theft.
That's what I'm going through
