This is such a great video, of the whole course...thanks! I did the Cat3 race (one loop) last year and had a blast. Will be doing Cat2 race (two loops) this year and hope for excellent conditions again!

I am doing the cat3 this year! what tires do you recommend? i am from AZ and have never been on trails out there

@@DanielGarcia-qj6sr If it’s dry you can run any of the low tread tires and be happy. I was on Specialized Fast Trak/Renegade last year. May come back with Rekon Race and/or Aspens. Not much in terms of rocks here that I remember so I wasn’t concerned about sidewall tears.

Mate lockout those forks when you're climbing, you'll save heaps of energy and it's so much faster. Those downhills were freaking me out!

Another fun video from you; seems like you did more passing than usual? Pity about the small crashes.
I've been experimenting with tires over the last few months, and found a REALLY good setup for the conditions here in Northern, CA. We have ridiculously loose gravel, sand and dust, over hardpack, with some very long and deep sections of pea gravel, and getting traction in the rear on the really steep uphills in summer can be tricky, and likewise, on the downhills, keeping the front tire gripped up is a bit of a knife-edge sometimes.
After trying a couple of Maxxis tires (Recon, Recon Race, Forecaster) and a couple of Ground Control tires, and the Bontrager XR2's, I settled on the Vittoria Barzos in front AND rear; I tried the supposedly faster rolling Vittoria Mezcal in rear, but it was still not quite grippy enough for really loose, steep uphills. Two Barzo's is perfect; there is no difference whatsoever in rolling speed between the Barzo on the rear and the Mezcal, and the added grip outweighs anything else. The Barzo in the front gives phenomenal grip for cornering and especially under braking, so if you get a chance, try them out; they seem to roll faster than any other tire I've tried as well, so that's a huge bonus. Also, they are very light as well.
Cheers, and thanks for the content.

I did pass more than usual. I’m still working on being assertive in races. I appreciate the tire info. I’ll check them out.

@@peterjrudge Make sure you get the race version, they really are exceptionally good. OH, and they are pretty decent in the wet and on mud; I rode them all winter here in Northern, CA, through the biblical deluge that was our winter this year.

Really enjoying watching these while I’m doing Zwift, and as a roadie now trying MTB I learn stuff as well. How do you get a go-pro to last 2 hours?

The way you let the bike roll through the tricky stuff and go deeper into corners makes the competition look slow.
