Thrifting is so much a matter of luck and serendipity, and no one should forget that you're a professional, so naturally you tend to be "luckier" than some of us. These are great tips! "This is why we thrift, ladies and gentlemen!"
Hi Fia. A strand of beads sold to jewelry makers in bulk is called a hank. That is not meant to be a necklace, meant to be separated for jewelry, tassels, etc..
Great video, Fia! You gave very good tips as well. I have to share this. Went to a Habitat Restore this past week. Was looking for items for one of my children. Was about to leave when I spotted a partial roll of gorgeous upholstery fabric. It was marked $15.00. But I got it at 30% off at $10.00. Came home and unrolled the fabric to measure the yardage. I have 16 full uncut yards and some scraps that I did not measure. So each yard cost me 62-1 /2 cents!! Since I can sew, I am now looking for something to upholster now. I always check fabrics and draperies to use for sewing projects. Have a great week! Looking forward to your bedroom makeover.
I appreciate that you are taking into consideration the fact that people are not finding the same things you are in their local shops. It's not a video about finding the same items--it's to explore your own creativity and see what you can do with the items YOU find. This video is super helpful and encouraging. I think the beads you found are a real stone, hence so heavy, possible moonstone based on its chatoyancy or maybe even white tigers eye.
Great video! I've been thrifting for 50+ years and still learned from your pro tips. The white garland beads appear to be a stone called Selenite. It's absolutely gorgeous and must have cost a fair bit when it was purchased new. Major score at $3! If they are Selenite, it's a fragile stone. It scratches easily, so it should be in a place where it won't get handled very often.
Unlike other commenters, I prefer the brown for the headboard recover! It will show less dirt and if you paint the walls a lighter color, it will pop. As for those stone beads...they usually sell stone beads like that for jewelry making on a string. I think these were just bigger stone beads to use as a single focal bead on a necklace but it is cheaper to buy a string of beads if you are an avid jewelry maker. Kind of like buying in bulk. Great tips!
I found one panel of 108 inch white velvet curtan and did sew on two sides tussel and now I'm using for bed throw. Its beautiful !!! Can use also for a sofa cover or in future may sew two pillow covers ! Thank you for you tips Fia !
I've been thrifting and repurposing for most of my adult life and yet this video gave me some great ideas and tips that I hadn't thought of before! SO much information and so well presented! Thanks!!
Love this video! Thank you for the great advice, I have to admit that I often pick up an item because it's cheap but like you I can always donate the item back.
Taupe is my choice. Your videos are so inspiring. So creative. I thrift too. My Grandma and Mom did too and it was fun. I grew up on thrifting. I find it an artistic hobby. Thanks Fia!
Thank you so much for taking the time to go through this! Thrifting & upcycling isn't for everyone! And different people look for different things! If your not running a business or reselling you shop for different things. If your shopping for your own home it's different. That was an expensive & borderline hoarding lesson I learned. 😂 Your tips and insights are spot on and applicable to all situations! THANK YOU AGAIN for sharing!
Hi Fia love your channel. I believe the bead garland you were wondering about are actually Greek Worry Beads, made of polished Selenite. I have a few smaller versions of the Greek Worry Beads which the men would carry in their pockets and use as needed to flip round the cording. Also Selenite is often used to clear negative energy. So its a win win for you and looks great too!
This video was the one that made me hit the subscribe button. I don’t get thrifting possibly because it feels overwhelming. This video is a great lesson on how to approach thrift shopping and flipping.
The proximity to high end stores definitely makes a difference in the quality of goods in the Goodwill stores. That is a great tip! Thanks for sharing your quality DIY and thrifting tips
Wow Sophia ! You are so creative! The way you used that leather jacket to upholster the bench is genius ! Would have never thought of that ! That’s why you are so creative & talented ! Thanks for sharing the useful tips !
First off, your sense of style is over the top amazing! And your ability to DIY finds into beautiful decor items is so inspiring. I personally think California (or at least so cal) is devoid of good thrift stores with reasonable prices. Has anyone else in So Cal found good thrift stores?
Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays for the Hartville thrift store you need to be there as soon as they open if you want to find the best stuff because those are the flea market days and it gets overcrowded overcrowded with the resellers hope that helps 😊
I jump when I saw u posted a video!!!!!! I was the first like…that is how much i love ur channel……I find u sooooo talented …..hello from Montreal ,Canada
Hi Fia. I just found your channel today. You are amazing. I am so tired of chintzy makeovers with IOD stamps and the like. You really do think outside the box and you are a great inspiration of how to reuse things in a classy way. I am now a new subscriber and I think I’m going to be binge watching all your old videos. I just noticed that this one is a month old so I’m going to have some fun watching the others. Thank you for sharing your talent.
As always, excellent content and finds! Another tip: the eye sees contrast, so if something has an area that is chipped or scratched, you can often touch it up and make it disappear with a sharpee or a little white out, nail polish, or a crayon!
For basket..if you just glued velcro on that liner and basket you wouldn’t have to do the ties every time. Just my idea. Great ideas all the time thanks❤
Something you've probly already thought of but in case this helps others : To still use the laundry hamper as one & as-is, m/l, but without the tying, untying etc. , one could try to find a plastic basket that fits the space inside well. With or without holes .. ? IDK if necessary for ventilation, pry depends on how wet items r & and for how long they are in there.
If you find yourself in the greater Chicago area, Fia, the Crate & Barrel/CB2 outlet at their Naperville warehouse is well worth the visit. It had so many deeply discounted on trend pieces.
I have been watching you for a while and I can't find things like you do or even close to it. I know thrifting is luck of the draw but now of days thrifting is a nightmare because the thrift stores are so packed with people Thrifting just to be a reseller and they're like vultures there's been numerous of times that my daughter and I have gone and they will snatch the stuff right out of your basket so for me, Thrifting is horrible, but I just love your channel and the ideas that you come up with
I am literally 10 minutes from that Goodwill in Scottsdale, and I think I have been there maybe twice. I'll have to give it another go. Are there any other favorites nearby?
Hey beautiful happy Sunday ❤ that’s so awesome with the tiles so beautiful. You find the most awesome things in your thrifting and your creations are so stunning. Wow you did such an amazing job at the lamp 🪔 everything is absolutely stunningly gorgeous 😊 have a wonderful week thank you for another inspiring video 🦋🌈💜💙💗💛
This was very thorough. Loved all the footage and ideas. Your thrift stores are very large. It does make a difference on the size of the store as to the selection, but I have found some treasures at my smaller ones.
I learn so much from you and get so many ideas! I wish I could use tools and do as much as you do though lol! You’re great at what you do I love it!!!!
To find 'good item's' at the thrift store, may mean travelling to a different neighborhood... where donated items may be of greater value and quality. Christmas: at my 'good' thrift store, they put out Christmas mid October...that is when I go.. Last year, I spent under $100 and decorated my kids' house for them all with thrift store finds... Last week, I found an Outdoor Bar for my back deck, which is covered...for $60!
I walk my girls to school and I saw a box full of Travertine tiles FOR FREE outside of a reno one day and it hurt my heart to have to walk away from them because there was no way to carry them back on the almost 2 mile hike there and 2 miles back. I went back with my husband to pick them up later in his truck and someone, most likely kids, had broken the whole box. So incredibly frustrating.
That piece that you found in jewelry, that looks like a necklace. I don't think it's a necklace. Take a good close look at it, it may be made of a crystal called Selenite. Selenite has healing and metaphysical properties. From my view point that's what it looks like. It should be cold to the touch, very heavy, solid, white and a streaking or scratchy look to the stone. Very very smooth and almost soft because it's a polished stone. It will get rough and dull if it gets wet. It is also a pricey piece so to find it thrifting is a steal!!
Great tips and inspiration! I've been looking for a small shelf for my bathroom and already have a small barn board look plant stool so I think a piece of reclaimed barn board or a small aged wood piece would be perfect!
Crazy, that exact same pole wrap at my Home Depot here in western Washington is $98 and some change. Our prices are absurd. I need to move where you are.
You deserve your own show on HGTV! You are so talented!!!
She really does. Love her style.
That is a great idea
Agreed!
I think this is one of the most helpful videos I've ever watched. Thanks so much.
Blown away as always!! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos!!
Glad you like them!

Yes. Go often and have a good eye. I can catch the good stuff pretty quick now. And think outside of the box!!
Using that hamper lid as a pendant light - so smart!
I agree , you are very talented. You see simple things and transform them into beautiful decor. That is a special talent.
OMG OMG YOU HAVE GREAT IDEAS. LIKE THE BOWLING BALL, WOW.
Hi Fia. A strand of beads sold to jewelry makers in bulk is called a hank. That is not meant to be a necklace, meant to be separated for jewelry, tassels, etc..
For the headboard , i like the whiteish one
I like the white headboard for the room make over
I like the taupe fabric for the headboard
White. It just looks fresh and clean.

This is the type of channel I’ve been looking for. Most people who like decorating have a very antique type of style but I like a modern style!
I appreciate that you are taking into consideration the fact that people are not finding the same things you are in their local shops. It's not a video about finding the same items--it's to explore your own creativity and see what you can do with the items YOU find.

I love white. For some reason I feel it looks more expensive 😊❤
Thank you for mentioning the one-in-one-out rule, and that it's okay to leave empty handed! ❤ I love your videos!

I came here to ask the same!

Hi Fia, love your videos :) The white "necklace" looks like moonglow lucite (a vintage plastic)
I love the bowling ball orb idea!
I’m always impressed with your DIY skills.
