I first saw VII at a Gamestop and I thought: "Wow, how are they at the 7th installment already?" I still see it as a 7 instead of V2 sometimes. Why could they do something like this 👉V2, not VII. That's the Roman Numeral for seven!

7:25 as someone who started with VIIR (I've been wanting to get into the series and it was 70% off, it just felt like this was the time), even though i saw a playthrough of rebirth 1 first, i felt the whole "you played this before" thing was, a bit awkward but i understood what they were going for and i liked it. Just playing through the game i said these 2 phrases over and over.
    1. I REGRET NOTHING!
    2. *Fanservice scene shows up* I REGRET EVERYTHING.
All in all though i like VIIR, it's fun and i even have the PS4 version and still love it. What can i say, i can't tell frame rates.

Saving up ap to do bigger attacks reminds me of cross edge, which is an awesome if deeply flawed game. Cross edge's battle system has a learning cliff but once you learn it, its so addicting to pull of massive combos that overkill enemies for uber loot and the post game is very difficult. the game can be grindy but getting your favorite characters to let loose in a huge stream of destruction by comboing with other party members, timing combos so enemy breaks restore ap to multiple characters UGH i miss that game.

@Fumi Chan You better ask a doctor about that. Short answer it depends on the person. In the best case you'll get a wet dream and release your load in your sleep, in the worst case, if you're one who doesn't get wet dreams, not doing it for a long time can give a higher risk of prostrate cancer. Most people consider it healthy to masturbate 1-2 times per week. Not doing it for weeks and doing it multiple times a day are both considered unhealthy. Like with everything in life you have to find the right balance. But I'm no specialist, so I can only tell you what I've been told by other people. If you really want to know about all risks and benefits, you should definitely talk to a doctor!

Personally, I like VIIR's battle system more than the one used in VII and the Re;Birth trilogy. It feels like a mesh of that battle system with the one from the original Neptunia. AP management results in you needing to be a bit wiser and more cautious with your moves, thus resulting in the game being somewhat harder as it requires a bit more strategy to do.
As for Noire's voice, I like both a lot. Even as someone who has loved this series since the first game's release, I'm still really liking Noire's new VA.

Things I like about VIIR is getting the true ending instead of having to do a bunch of things to trigger it like in VII, the graphics, the other party members following you and the VR events. I didn't mind the VR events popping up in the story as I felt they were timed right in my opinion.
Things I like about VII is Noire's original voice actor, I don't mind the new one but it doesn't feel the same. I also like the battle mechanics better as it feels easier to do what you need to do, extra saves files and the main opening.

VIIR just made the combat way too slow for me. As somewhat of a completionist the late game VII grind to max level made much more palatable by being able to hold the skip animation button and input my essentially muscle memorized combo chains and end the battles quickly. In VIIR you simply don't have this option.
I appreciate what they were *trying* to do but the new combat felt like it was trying to add more depth when in reality it felt like it was just adding more hoops to jump through.

  • @StarFoxZX315
    @StarFoxZX315 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I see I found a cultured gamer here. Nep VII and Valkyria 4? You certainly have really good taste for games.
About the games, I still have to finish VIIR (and yes, I own VII as well and it's my favorite Nep game), but some of the main gameplay differences I spotted:
    1) In VII you have 3 possible endings, a bad one (which feels kind like a game over), a normal one (that blocks you from getting the true ending) and the true one. In order to get the last, you have to watch several events with NPCs and three of the goddesses, so it requires attention not to miss any (in my LP I almost freaked out when I forgot I had watched one of the NPC events and spent nearly two hours checking to see if everything was in order XD). VIIR, on the other hand, has only the true ending, so players won't have to worry about grinding events and all.
    2) The battle system in VII allows players to set moves to their normal attacks that, when chained in the right order, will always land critical hits (which means 100% hit rate), making the game so easy it's possible to beat it with a level 60 party no problems (I beat the game at level 75 taking zero damage from most attacks of the final boss). If you want a challenge in VII, take the arena fights and Senmu Labyrinth. VIIR, however, has that bounty system, generating bosses that can be really hard, nearing impossible if you're not prepared. Also, battles don't have guranteed cirts and the attack radius has several different portions which deal different amounts of damage depending on which part is covering the enemies. Take all that and add the AP management to have quite challenging Nep game.
    3) VIIR has more animated cutscenes than VII, which is, most of the time, your typycal wall of text. Still, there aren't as many cutscenes to justify a remake of the original game.
About a new game with the new engine and with VR events, that's something I never really thought about. Adding VR and the new combat mechanics, to me, felt more like an expansion than a reason for a remake (and what's worst: FOR THE SAME CONSOLE! WTF, IF?!). But honestly, I agree, a new game would've been a much better idea and a much better use of players' money.
My conclusion: VII is the easier, yet better game to play geven it's similarities to the originals/Re;Birth series while adding some new gameplay aspects that were, in general, a much needed change. But given the event grinding to get to the true ending, might get players who aren't fond of reading walls of text or walking across a map filled with random encounters just for the sake of reading dialogues. If you're not a fan of that, and want a bigger challenge, then take VIIR. You'll have a fun time taking on more strategic fights and won't have to worry about grinding events all the time.

Unless you’re a Ultimate Neptunia fans and decide to buy both to really support Ideal Factory, I would go with VII, whether on the PS4 or PC, the game mechanics are less complicated, even the graphics are good at best, the frame rate is in 60, plus you get the 5 DLC characters. But importantly is the price of the game.
My guess why VIIR was made was, to have at least a Neptunia game that doesn’t cost a lot to keep the fan busy until Super Neptunia RPG, adding VR and changing the battle mechanics probably a test to see how it works for future main titles.
If you’re thinking about VIIR, I would go for the PC to get that 60 fps experience, but like they said, you’re going to need a powerful computer.

A lot of your points made in the video I share as well, namely, Noire's old voice actress Erin Fitzgerald. I really love her work as Noire. One other, silly reason I have that other fans may share, depending if they get the physical or digital copy, is the game's cover art. I really like VII's cover art, the purple goes great with the blue of the actual box. Then again, I also like VIIR's alternate cover art >.

I definitely prefer VIIR over VII. I played VII first and love the game to death. Didn't care for the DLC characters though. I sold my copy of VII so I could buy VIIR. No point have 2 of the same game. I also hate when games have "true" endings. It's a cheap tactic to make players do repeated playthroughs. Anyways I prefer VIIR because you get the true ending without the fussy conditions. The battle system makes it so you can change your combos to better prepare for each enemy. Better than waiting for a battle to end and manually change your combo with new or appropriate attacks. I love the graphical update. While I agree that VII's colors were more unique and vivid, I love VIIR's character models and overall polish more. I love seeing the party members walk with you in the dungeons. The story is still the same but we get extra cutscenes along with the same kickass soundtrack.

I hope the game doesn't keep the direction from VIIR, it seems like the battle system is too OP in VIIR making the enemies too easy, it would make it difficult to die. I'm not saying these games are hard, but VII had a refreshing difficulty at the beginning that made you know when you are getting better and making good decisions. I also don't think it is just the battle system is to blame as the characters got far more health in VIIR so an attack that was a large threat to possibly kill you in the original can just be tanked in VIIR with little to no problem. I just feel that if I had to play a game where there is no threat of dying, I'd probably just put the game down since it would barely keep my interest, at least a little excitement in a battle. Again not EXTREMELY hard, just a slightly threatening beginning to fit the game style which did fit with the story at the beginning.

Was watching this right now because I recently got a VR headset and was curious what was the differences between VII and VIIR. I've already played VII and enjoyed it, so figured maybe another playthrough could be fun if the VR side of things adds to it.
However from the looks and sounds of it...The only addition that's kind of interesting is the interactive cutscenes. The graphical overhaul looks good too (though I agree the bloom "feels" better), but literally everything else sounds not up to par with VII. The fact that there are zero dlc characters was the final nail in the coffin for me.
I do love the girls' personalities and it would've been cool to "talk" to them...or well, nod/shake my head at them lmao, but I think I'll let this one go. If they make a new Neptunia game that's fully VR, I'll happily give it a shot.

Thank you for this review. I was curious since it's a bit odd to create a remake of a game just two years later. The VIIR system does sound kinda tedious managing both SP and AP, with extra button pressing. VII's system was great. I downloaded VII from PS Now so I'll pass on VIIR.

    • @OrchidRose83

I actually ended up getting VIIR because I love VII so much. The battle system isn't as cumbersome as I thought and there were some positive changes. The VR cutscenes with adult Neptune at the end of the Zero saga segments are cute. However I can see why people found this remake rather pointless.

As someone who owns all Neptunia games on steam, I got to ask myself: is it worth it to buy VIIR? If it's the same game with just some graphics improvements and a different battle system with some VR interaction added on top I find it hard to justify the 34 euro pricetag that has come with it. Plus IF and CH have been getting on my nerves with all the DLC bullcrap they have been pulling for so long and the mess that is 4GO.
I'd like to try the VR part and get a feel of the new battle sistem, plus better graphics are always nice, but looking at Steam reviews it's almost as broken as 4GO is atm with bug and bad performance reports. Do they even deserve our money?

For the reason VII R is made, i would think there trying to master the new engine while remaking a VII as a point of reference. Then there stuck with a new game so might as well release it to get more money out of it. Having made VII R i whould hope the next Neptunia game will be of higher quility since they have more experiance with there new engine.
    Just my speculation though.

One thing I’m gonna say is that VII on the pc has a bug where your skill doesn’t scale with your level. Meaning after you hit a certain level, your combo attack will start doing more damage than your skill, making them useless (aside from healing skill). It’s disappointing because I don’t think they’re ever gonna intend to fix it.

As someone who wanted the AP system to return (especially since mk2 is my favorite game in the series even today for letting me win with "pure strategy), VIIR's battle system felt too slow and confusing for me that I kind of gave up shortly after the intro :(
Meanwhile, VII felt better paced and such. I personally wasn't happy with the Victory battle system for being a step down from mk2 for me, but VII fixed a great deal of the problems I had with that battle system. Definitely my second favorite game behind mk2 on PS3.

  • @FreddyBoBeddy

I prefer the look of the new one, but the combat looks more fun with the first one. I'm torn, as to which one I'll pick up. Apparently, I already bought it on PlayStation at some point, but if I can get 60 fps on PC, maybe I should wait for a sale and pick it up there.

ARRRGH! That's so frustrating! So I bought VII when it came out and was driven mad because they removed the circles on the ground that tell you what your movement area is. Then VIIR comes out and I find out they brought back the movement circles...but were charging full price for it?! So I didn't buy it. I just got a friend into the series and was thinking of getting him VIIR because movement circles only to find out they changed the battle system entirely?! Cripes, Neptunia V really IS the only one they got right, isn't it?
It's maddening to me because I think Neptunia V has one of the best turn based battle systems of all time. They keep TRYING to make new games that expand on the system...only to screw it up every time! NO! Just...do Neptunia V again. That's it. That's perfect. Just DO THAT. Which I mean, they did for the Re-Birth games but still...
So yeah I'll probably get him regular VII and hope the lack of movement circles doesn't drive him as mad as it drives me.

There were most likely licensing issues with the DLC or they just didn't want to waste money re-using them. CH aren't getting very far with them by naming them exactly after the companies or games. Nepgya and Umio's exclusion was probably down to having an already massive party

I own both VII an VIIR on PS4 but on PC I only own VII but don't desire to purchase or play VIIR again since I was so disappointed to how they certain things one dealing with only 1 ending and 2 Adult Nep thanking you for playing via VR. I think they could have done a different style thank you corner using the VR dimension but using all of the characters. Finally I didn't really like the new Noire Voice in VIIR because with certain scenes she lacked emotions like with the scene with Uni dying for example she lacked any crying emotions at all unlike the OG Erin voice for Noire. Also they made VIIR easier in some aspects and difficult in others. I got a Game Over in VIIR but never gotten one in VII due to the stupid new battle mechanics they used in VIIR. Another difference with VIIR vs VII is that VIIR you only have 1 ending route which is the True Ending route all of the other routes are eliminated. I watched the deleted VIIR voice clips that Erica did and she fell flat especially with the Drunken Noire and her Singing part.

PC gamer here as well. Personally I like the battle system in VIIR is better. It seems more interesting to be able to do more actions with each character, leading to more strategic thinking. VII just doesn't feel different enough from the Re;Birth games. Also, I dislike how combos are tied to the weapons in VII. They should have kept the Re;Birth combo system, complete with EXE finishers. Oh and that random encounter system on the world map is just plain annoying.

Although I felt that VIIR's release was unnecessary, I enjoyed playing it for the most part. My one and only gripe with the game is that they completely nerfed the difficulty into the ground. There's almost no way you can lose any fight. Most mobs go down in two hits regardless of your level. You don't have to grind levels at all to complete the story. The only story boss fight that gave me a challenge was with Dark Green, that one aoe move she does with her spear that deals insane amounts of damage. Where did the difficulty spikes the series is known for disappear to? I want my difficulty spikes back! >:(

Story are pretty much the same between of the two, except VIIR has no alternate endings.
If you're asking about content differences between VII & VIIR, here are what I figured out so far.
      VII:
      -new game plus
      -multiple save slots
      -multiple endings
Even all Rebirth games have those features
-battle system is still closer to all Rebirth games
-DLC characters: Umio, Nepgya, Million Arthur, God Eater, Nitroplus
      VIIR:
-VR scenes with 4 main CPUs and Big Nep
      -no random encounter on overworld
-completely different battle system to VII and Rebirth games
      -only has one (true) ending
      -no new game plus
-has auto-save and cannot use multiple save files like in VII and Rebirth games
-no DLC characters that VII had
Hope knowing this will help you decide.

I will argue to my dying day that megadimension is VASTLY superior to VIIR.
While VIIR is better on a technical level, it has so much missing content, and the new combat system is so catastrophically boring (and easy) that it ruins a lot of the fun.
And while being able to abuse ex drive was a bit silly, going back to the mk2 system where you could very rarely use abilities and HDDforms sucks.

I'm guessing the ps4 running it at 30fps is because the system couldn't handle it at 60fps at all times. if the game is running at a full 1080p then that's understandable since the system isn't really strong enough to do every game it runs at that resolution at 60fps especially if the character models and backgrounds have a higher amount of detail to them.

Personally I hate VIIR. Not because the game itself is bad, but because it just feels like a waste of development time & potential. There wasn't anything significantly wrong with the original VII to warrant a remake so soon, it just feels redundant. Especially since I also think VIIR regressed in a lot of areas. I really hate the new battle system & the VR content just feels like pointless filler. If they wanted to test the VR capabilities of their new engine, they could've released VIIR as a separate, cheaper game with just the VR content and nothing else for a cheaper price & I would've been fine with it. Instead, we got a watered down version of VII with an inferior battle system, downgraded graphics & lesser story (lack of DLC characters & 1 removed ending) in exchange for some VR stuff. Not a very fair trade in my opinion.
If you're going to mention the 4k support, it isn't even that great, considering there's a 4k mod for VII that works just as well if you REALLY want it that bad. There's other very nitpicky & downright irrelevant things I could comment on but I'll refrain I guess.
I've said it to my friends, on random threads & videos, and I'll keep saying it - just get VII. There's no justifiable reason to get VIIR in my personal opinion. It's an inferior game.

    • @worldiefeard8396
      @worldiefeard8396 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

My thought is that they used VIIR as a "testing ground". Having already VII they can easily compare both fan reception to new engine and mechanics, without hardcommitting to an entire new game.
4 goddesses online also used a completely different engine I suppose, but it is also a different game type altoghether so wouldn't really make for a fair comparison.
I personally enjoyed both, and VIIR actually gave me a reason to go for the plat trophy on PS4 as the grind is significantly less painful than it was on VII itself (I own both, in fact I also own VII on PC).
We'll see how Neptunia... whatever next game comes out ends up being. I still have good hopes+expectations for next title.
