Ye. Memang betul. ini adalah kerana ia di "forge" (ketuk panas) dan "quench" (celup) pakai minyak untuk mengeraskannya. Dia orang "quench" hanya pada bilah tajam saja. Tulang belakang tak di "quench".

Excellent insider information here, thank you. My Parang seems to be an excellent operation based on the one blade I own, the Tangkin, so much so I already have the golok Perak on the way lol. Very cool to know more about the maker, there’s a whole culture of tool makers in Malaysia that we have no idea about in the US.

You are most welcome. Yes, MYParang is really good at what they do. In fact, I just gotten the Golok 125 from them. Looks really good apart from the hard wood handle. It seems a bit "sticky". Perhaps it is due to the varnish they used. Anyway, Malaysia used to have some respectable keris (wavy sword/dagger) maker. Those are the really good bladesmith but I think they are no longer around.

@@fangblade9388 there was definitely some oil in the plastic wrapper mine was shipped in, good for the blade, not so much for the handle maybe. I don’t recall the handle being sticky, seems like just a water based stain to me, but I put some feed n wax on the handle and it feels great. Im a pro guitar tech and amateur woodworker, I’ve used tru oil, mineral oil, boiled linseed, you name it, I find feed n wax wipes off the best and leaves the wood feeling natural, no extended drying time needed. I use it on all wooden handled tools (and guitar fretboards ;) ).

@@NickWeissMusic Oh wow. Thats a lot of wood knowledge there. It not sticky per se but just feel "funny". When I am comparing the handle with this particular bladesmith own pc, I am afraid I prefer this "cheaper" handle than the MYParang one. Just me perhaps.

@@fangblade9388 just received my golok Perak, and the handle did indeed come sticky! A 20 minute application of feed n wax and a good wiping cleared it right up. The handle is carved a little wonky, a little disappointing since that’s what a lot of the cost is, but I’ll just reshape it if it bothers me enough, used it to trim some bamboo today and it worked like a champ as is.

@@NickWeissMusic Pardon my ignorance, what is "Feed n wax"? As for the shape, it is perfect for me. Just a little light as compare to the other wood handle. So you got the golok perak! I was comparing it with my Golor 125 and decided against it. Golok Perak seems to "tactical" like a Ka Bar USMC. Anyway, Bamboo eh..... that easy peasy for the parang. .

Nice review and I eventually got here due to watching all of Paul Coakley's Junglecrafty videos (whatever happened to him if anyone knows?). I just wrote to MyParang as the links on their website to their European Distributor aren't working currently so I don't know what is going on there. I had always thought that Parang was the name for a certain style of Machete, I didn't know it was the Malay word for Machete so I guess that my mini Bear Grylls Gerber Parang must be a DUKU style version.

Thanks comment. I am not sure about Paul Coakley site. I did checked out his video several time. Good content. Yes, "Parang" is the general term and Duku, Golok, Rintis etc are the style. Btw, i went back to Kwong Yen Long and got myself another Duku. This one is with a very nice "golden" looking wood handle. Will post a video later. Thank and stay safe out there ya.
