  • Lovely high pressure and clear skies gave me an opportunity to try for 10,000 feet. I managed it last year in february, but didn't really prepare properly - and was bloody freezing. So now, fully wrapped up I took the JPX out and headed up above the clouds! #theflyingscotsmantv#theflyingscotsmantv#theflyingscotsmantv#theflyingscotsmantv

    Amazing, thanks for sharing. Have you tried doing cross country? Whats the farthest distance travelled in a single fuel tank?

    • @TheFlyingScotsmanTV
      @TheFlyingScotsmanTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Warsame Adam most of my flight are cross country. Though I tend to fly a loop so I can land where I took off. At 25mph, a 2 hour flight can be 50 miles or so. My current paramotor will do around 2 1/2 hours on a tank, but most of my flights are around an hour or so. Have a look at other videos and you'll see cross country flights to Ben Nevis (highest mountain in Britain) for example.

    Sir, thank you so much for sharing your incredible experience. I have a question and hope you will reply. I am wondering if you might consider taking a quadcopter up with you that high and giving it a whirl or even better launch from up high with coordinates programmed to land before you....then capturing your landing. It doesn't have to be exactly that way or course. This would be a first I believe. I am your new sub and fan. Wishing you all the best.

      new, about 8K. secondhand about 2 or 3K. 2 weeks of training if the weather's good and you can be in the air. no licence required in UK (though I would suggest training through the BHPA leading to their professional qualification)

      The real danger of going above 10000 ft is the Hypoxia (lack of oxygen) it's a dangerous silent killer. At the begining you want feel it as it is silent & you will start making strange decision, then you go in comma resulting of certain death as no oxygen to the human body. the more you go higher the risk is more, & you will have only 15 seconds if you are awake to save your life.
      Legally you are not allowed to fly over 10000 ft without oxygen for long time, you have only 30 minutes between 10000 & 13000 ft , over 13000 ft you must have the oxygen tanks, this is why in the planes they compress the air in the cabinet as they go over 30000 ft
      At your risk (To train your lungs to deal with high altitude less then 10000 ft, you should spend some days in the mountains (but still the Hypoxia is waiting for you with a grave risk) Again, it is at your risk).
      Also, be careful , NEVER DIVE & FLY IN THE SAME DAY, give at least 24 hours for your body to adjust it self. it is very serious risk, because the Nitrogen bubbles will form in your blood stream & that's enough to kill.

    • @TheFlyingScotsmanTV
      @TheFlyingScotsmanTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Xavi the UK law is that you need a transponder above 10K. plus supplemental oxygen. So without prior agreement with the CAA, that is the limit without these items. Obviously that assumes you are still in in class G.

    It's funny because you wouldn't think 10000 feet was that high, but once you're up there, my God, it looks like 30000. lol
    Is the FAA gonna catch you (or an ultralight trike) if you attempt to go to 10560 feet to make it an even 2 miles? Or is that a reasonable height you can get to without getting busted?

    Awesome flight! I've recently purchased a brand new paramotoring, wing, etc... and will be training in a couple of weeks. I have a co-worker that is a licensed private pilot and he tells me I can't fly in any restricted airspace near any airports, etc... I'm a tugboat captain in NYC and I was hoping to fly over the city and up the Hudson River. I lived in Norfolk, VA. for 10 years and I know there are numerous military bases there like Norfolk Airport , NAS Norfolk, NAS Oceana, Langley AFB, etc... Are PPG's exempt and allowed???

    • @TheFlyingScotsmanTV
      @TheFlyingScotsmanTV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      BrassRainbow556 I don't know what your USA FAA laws are, but I imagine they are similar to the uk in that we are subject to he same laws of the air as any other aircraft. And since we have no transponders or radio we are usually excluded from flying in restricted airspace. I would be very surprised if ppg flight was allowed in nyc. And flying in military airspace is never a good idea.
