Just got my first GEC. Ran out to mail box after pausing this video. I made a live unboxing video for it. So happy, I understand why they are so loved. Thanks for sharing, Live Long Prosper and Collect Your Own Way!

Jersey Knife Guy, I curse you every time I purchase a new GEC Knife, LOL! After watching this video I decided to purchase my first knife, the model 29 with grits, butter & molasses scales. I now know what an addict felt like after taking their first hit of drugs. I now have 30 plus knives and I don’t see an end to my collecting. In all seriousness, thank you for this video. It opened my eyes to the community of slip joint knife collectors. You schooled me on what I believe are the best semi-hand made production knives made. Oh, and your right, it is time consuming to take out several knives and putting them away again.

@@jerseyknifeguy6382 Your Welcome. I wish I had not been so shy and commented and thanked you sooner. Maybe I’ll overcome my shyness some say and put my knives on TH-cam. Like I said before you will be missed. There aren’t many putting slip joint content up and you were one of the best.

I have been collecting and admiring all kinds of knives since I was a kid. I’m not an expert or anything I just like knives. Mostly folding pocket knives. I stepped up my game a few years ago when I bought my first paramilitary 2. That jump started my Appreciation for a different level of quality in knives. Six months ago I bought a Benchmade 970 I love it. It’s my favorite EDC. But just recently I bought a Bugout and a Proper. Something about the Benchmade proper I just feel in love with. Then through TH-cam and BladeHQ I discovered GEC. Words can’t really describe how I feel about these knives. The quality and craftsmanship is on a level I’ve never seen in production knives.I can’t get enough. I love everything about Great Eastern Cutlery.

I love GEC's. Never seen a bad one. I just started getting into them maybe a year ago, so I don't have many. 7 of them, but I cherish each and every one of them. I'm like you, I like my modern folders too, and I have more of them than traditionals, but I'm loving my traditionals too. I have GEC's, which are my favorite, but I also have Rough Riders, Queens, Schatt & Morgans, Remingtons, Old USA made Schrades, and more. I love the history, the beautiful covers, the walk and talk, everything about them. I use my modern folders more, because they're just easier with the one hand operation, but I love my traditionals, and usually carry one as my secondary backup and my gentleman carry.

@@jerseyknifeguy6382 I love all things sharp and pointy. Traditionals, modern folders, fixed blades, you name it. Love listening to you too. I lived in South Jersey back when I worked for USAir at the Philly airport. I moved away about 10 years ago, but I spent about 20 years in the area, and I miss it. I'd kill for a good Nick's Roast Beef, or a Primo's Italian hoagie. You just can't get good bread anywhere once you leave that area. It's sad what they pass off as a roll around where I am now.

Great group of GEC knives! I agree GEC manufactures the best made traditional slip-joint knives today. You can really get deep into traditional knives chasing the famous makers from the last century or more, mostly from the US, Sheffield England, and Solingen Germany. It would be great to see more on your GEC's; thanks for sharing!

And you are correct. It does seem many folks do seem to chase a brand. I think the reason GEC are priced so high is because very few are made and most never leave the tube. This is why you rarely see a used GEC on the secondary.
I think the reason few people buy traditionally is because the need shiny and fast because they think it’s cool. And shiny and fast tends to be cheap five dollar flippers.

The only slip joint i own is a large case trapper with oak scales. I bought it and it was not handed down. I am tactically minded and prefer scount or appendix carrying fixed blades. I do respect a beaitiful slip joint for everyday use. I think one handed use is a big factor for many people.

I can match three! The #44 Ebony, the #81 Red Micarta, and the #82 Elderberry.
I can nearly match another three - my #86 is an Oily Creek Bone, my #48 is a single blade in Stag, and my #92 is in Golden Rod Camel Bone.
    I only have another two - a #93 Cocobolo and a #99 Chestnut Wood.
That looks like #78 Ironwood you have on the left there - if only I could find one of those!
These are much harder to get hold of here in the UK than they are in their US home, but that makes me like them even more somehow. I wouldn't call myself a collector or a hobbyist, and I'm not bothered about their monetary value, I just use them on a daily basis as my pocket carry. Because they're the best! Because my day always feels that bit better when I've a GEC in my pocket.
Modern flippers? Sure, nothing wrong with them, but if you're a gentleman you're going to go for an elegant traditional every time. It's about breeding!

My rough estimate, $-4,000-$7,000 on the mat. (A very conservative estimate!).
Beautiful looking collection. I just can’t afford GECs and I seriously doubt I’d have someone to them down to who would know their value.
I would disagree a tad on what collectors will collect. But GEC collectors are definitely serious about their collecting.

Nice collection buddy, i would like to see them all in more detail😀 I think there are a lot more collectors out there than you give them credit for. Ever tome Northwoods does a drop 200 or so knives are sold out in just a couple min. I personally know probably 100 or so serious collectors.. so we are out there😀

    • @timbo4374
      @timbo4374 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree..the modern folder crowd gets most of the attention, but those of us who enjoy the history, beauty, and simplicity of a traditional pattern knife are out there in numbers as well. Lots of guys like myself carry both, but we tend to talk about our modern folders more, so those who don't know us better don't realize we even collect them too.
