Trivia:International Women’s Day and International Workers Day is also observed in Non-Communist Countries like the Philippines and Indonesia 😊😊 Update:This October, the Juche Calendar was stopped in North Korea with replacement of typical Gregorian Calendar 😊😊
In the Romania of my childhood, the 8th of March, May Day and the 1st of June (International Children's Day) were major celebrations, though only May Day was an official holiday and a day off. I have fond memories of the joy they brought, the feeling that we were part of a much bigger thing than our tiny little selves.
I've just finished reading Michael Palin's book on North Korea. He was there for the May 1st celebrations and was utterly surprised by how welcoming the people were. It's one of the best books I've ever read on the DPRK. It's quite different from the TV series because he is more open about his own impressions.
It is fantastic - it was the company I worked for (and still work with a bit) that took him in and arranged the trip, so glad that both an incredible programme and great book came out of it!
what an interesting little co-incidence. I am watching this on the 'Day of the Shinning Star'. I had no idea of the date of that North Korean holiday before watching.
I guess it makes sense that it's popular to have weddings on public holidays cuz everyone is off. A video about North Korean wedding customs and traditions would be interesting. If they do honeymoons in their culture itd be cool to see some of the most popular honeymoon spots
Off-topic comment, but: 0:12 - extremely modern and eye-catching form of Sam-Taeguk. I'd vote for it becoming the national symbol of unified people's Korean state.
Coincidentally. My birthday was also April 15th, and my birthday somewhat went stale these days, as i go older and older. Should I go to North Korea to make my birthday more iconic?
9 public holidays in the first half of the year followed by 8 more in the second half. That's 17. WTF does the DPRK has so many holidays ?!!!! That is nearly as many as Malaysia. Still no where close to Nepal though with 36. The world champion. If you work 5 days a week, that's nearly 2 months worth of public holidays every year !
I'm uploading all the songs from this video to DPRK Explained Music this afternoon - some are already up. Playlist for this video (Part One) linked in the description.
Considering if you type “korean culture” or food or history or anything else, 90% of your search results on youtube will be about the rok, I don’t think that would be needed.
Unfortunately not. But you might enjoy “Little Chinese Everywhere.” She has the best vlogs showing culture. I myself will be moving to China in 1.5 years and I intend to make videos from a similar perspective about China once I’m there. We definitely need more of this kind of content to go around the mainstream media.
Unquestionably the best DPRK content on the website. And probably the best overall in the English language.
Most documentaries on TV don't put half the effort put into their editing that this free content does.

I discovered this channel from Hakim and love it!
Okay I’m ready for part two 😂
I was ready when Part One dropped......
Talk about the city of Sunan pls, and Sunan-guyok

Love it ❤️❤️❤️
It's such a detailed introduction, really appreciate this series. By the way, is it allowed to add subtitles to translate to other languages?
TH-cam settings turn on closed captioning and choose your preferred language. ❤
Love these videos provided by various world TH-camrs.

I have a new guilty pleasure with North Korean music!
In North, they have Juche Calendar but in South they have Dangun Calendar - both aren't used in formal business calendar.
Waiting or the 2nd part! 🎇
they just celebrating 75 years of the founding of the country well done comrades of the dprk
Very cool celebrations
Great video
can you tell me when is the military parade starting?
April's a big month apparently

It's a variation of the Joseon dynasty Taeguk
Oh, actually I didn't know. Still, I like its design
Forget Valentine's day, real comrades celebrate Generalissimo Day/Day of the Shining Star.
Happy Day of the Sun everyone
🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵🇰🇵
Don’t know if anyone here actually celebrates it but still
태양절 축하합니다!
I'm interested to know if the DPRK celebrates Hangul Day? Or, I suppose, Chosun Day?
Just a question, do you recognise the existence of the ROK? as when you show a map of the DPRK it includes all of ROK territory
ROK is just a West colony used as proxy during the Cold War era, both are significant to history of current day Vietnam
@@reis1185 why is Vietnam dragged into this 😭?
Awesome holidays of the DPRK!
Hmmm. The German Pioneers had the same motto (always ready): immer bereit!

what's the name of the International Worker's Day's song?

They work 6 days per week and usually have duties on the 7th day. So then it's not a lot of free time.
6:05 I've been looking for this song for ages! Anyone know the title?

Anyone know the song thats playing in the background during the "day of the sun" ?
It's called "Star of Korea"
Can you talk about lgbt in dprk?
It would be nice if you could do a second channel named ROK explained
I don't believe that he recognised the ROK as when he mentions the DPRK the map highlights the entirety of both countries
@@jacobmackenzie7941 well according to north Korea that's their official map ,he definitely recognizes south Korea
@@battleshippotemkin4633 No i know, but he doesn't have to show their official map, he could show the internationally recognised one

Honestly let's appreciate his videos before the bots arrive.
Is there another channel that explains China in the same fashion as this channel?
