  • Three former executives at HS2 have spoken to Sky News to criticise the financial management of the project.
    They include two whistleblowers who say they had previously identified problems to the company and now feel vindicated by an official report which criticised the spiralling costs of the project.
    The government is expected to make a decision on whether or not to formally press ahead with HS2.

      Ken Mackenzie In fairness, HS2 will be vastly more superior than the normal network. We are at major disadvantage as the mainland Europe railways were all destroyed in ww1 and ww2, so they had chance to rebuild their railways and could make them straight as possible to allow higher speeds. Ours still dates back to Victorian era. It gets patched up now and again but will take a long time to get on the same level of efficiency and passages satisfaction as say France or Germany.

    • @sublivion5024
      @sublivion5024 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's not about HS2 being superior. The biggest benefit of HS2 is it's impact on freeing capacity on other main line. Currently, there are huge gaps between services on the ECML, WCML, MML, and the CML because the tracks are shared between slow, fast, stopping, and non-stopping trains. By moving the non-stopping services to HS2, some areas could receive up to 3x more capacity. To add to that existing infrastructure was originally built and designed nearly 200 years ago.

    • @eddiereece1827

    HS2 is something that simply must be stopped. They say it will cost billions to cancel. Well, it will cost far far more than that to actually go ahead with the project. It’s a complete and utter financial rip-off, a waste of time and will be incredibly environmentally damaging to the local environment and communities. We should be reopening the local branch-lines.

    HS2 should have been built when HS1 was created. This is now old technology. The UK needs to catch up and the future is Hyper Loop.

    • @sublivion5024
      @sublivion5024 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hyper Loop is flawed, expensive, and does not yet (and may never) exist as a viable transportation method. On the other hand, HS2 will be one of the fastest if not the fastest railways in the world. There is no need to reinvent the wheel when there is great technology that already exists, is cheap, and is being built upon slowly with new technology. As a country we rely on numerous main lines such as the WCML, ECML, MML, and the CML that could receive up to 3x more capacity by moving non stopping services to HS2.

    No construction company takes on a project and expects it to cost their estimated total. They employ people to argue over increased costs and to find contractual places where they can skimp. Or demand more money or resource. The more money involved, the more mismanagement. Folk seem to think when they are in charge of large resources that they're owed something.

    Theres soo many people trying to stop HS2 its unreal. We have a growing population, we need more capacity on our rail network to cope with growing demand. Yes it'll cost a lot of money, but in a term of economic uncertainty, a big infrastructure project like this would be good for the country. It would create 10's of thousands of jobs, and also indirectly would sustain thousands of others. 100 years from now, when people look back at it, no one will say building it was a bad idea.
