    The thing that was great about hank and walt was that they were both genius in their fields and both of them destroyed themselves by becoming obsessed

      hurrdurr25 Hank was fucking natural. He didn't have to think for hours, freaked out of his mind, it just came to him. Only thing Walter had going for him was his desperation and paranoia. He could've sat on his ass for years if things didn't get serious but Hank was bound to move up and he could just be happy at the same time.

      i mean, nobody expects his brother in-law to be a criminal boss. Especially when u know he's been a asocial weak man all his life.

    • @MC-vh7go
      @MC-vh7go 7 ปีที่แล้ว +554

      Yes, I wouldn't consider Walt weak or asocial before he became Heisenberg. To me, he had a great life, but disapointing to himself compared to his potentiaI. Most of his science colleagues were in research or the upper levels of academia but Walt was teaching high school. I think Walt himself may have felt "weak" but as he slowly became Heisenberg, he felt stronger more respected, and powerful. That feeling was exhilirating to him..Heisenberg!! God, BB was sooooo good!!!

      That was one of the great things about the show, how the characters and our understanding of them evolved.
      On first impressions Hank seemed to be just a stereotypical macho loudmouth, but then we learned that he had a very sharp mind and in the end that he had more courage and integrity than just about any character in the show.

      Not to throw a wrench in your bad Walt good Hank but it was Walt who convinced Hank to get over his fears and self pity and keep fighting. I've said it before and it's true Vince made sure that every character was human (good and bad). Strong and weak. Giving but selfish. This show also made the point that death doesn't care who you are or what you have or haven't done. When it's your time it's your time. Be it a young boy or a old man. Death comes to us all. As Morgan said in Shawshank. Get busy living or get busy dying. Darn straight.

    Hank was ALWAYS there to help Marie or her sister and her sister's children. Walter Jr. loved him. He was truly a family man, something Walter claimed to be. He left everything to go see his wife, thinking she was in a hospital while Walt missed the birth of his daughter. Respect for Hank for that.

    • @onastick2411
      @onastick2411 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      I think that's harsh on Walt, he was a family man, looking after his family, dealing with the frustration of being a genius at chemistry and working a mundane job, and working a part time job at a car wash, taking flack from his own students. The break was the death sentence (lung cancer), that made him take the path of darkness, and start the slide into his own destruction.
      Remember it was Hank who took Walt on a drug bust, which showed him the piles of money, just sitting there, the money he needed to possibly cure himself, unwittingly Hank set the wheels of fate in motion.
      To paraphrase the bard, "In order to bring us to greater harms, the devil often tempts us with small trifles.", he was Breaking Bad, not bad; power corrupts, don't you know?

    Early on in the series, the character of Hank was used mostly for comic relief, even though he was more of a blowhard than actually funny. But when he was relieved of that role by Saul Goodman, who really was funny, there was a sudden opportunity to develop Hank as a more 3-dimensional character, which I thought worked a lot better. Anyone agree?

      hank feels like a sopranos character in season 1, his wisecracks especially feel like they’re from that show, or in that style. he came across as funny but in an ironic way.
      if they kept that up for 6 seasons it would get old fast. glad they went the direction they did w/ the ptsd and mirroring walter’s arc. but i do love the tone of BB season 1, great comedy in that one
