The elf William shares his body with is actually named “Patolli.” He’s Licht’s student, the actual Licht who was the elder of the elf tribe was killed with the rest in the past. Patolli’s just taken his identity for himself for some reason.

Thomas Rappolee He didn’t take his identity on purpose it hasn’t been revealed why he was the one reincarnated into someone (William) that looked like Licht while Licht got his own brand new body (brat) I assume it has something do to with Patri either being obsessed with Licht and would follow him or by Licht summoning/becoming the demon and it corrupted his grimoire and his soul that’s why Asta has the 5 leaf and corrupted swords. Just my two cents
Nik Hil the pacing made Vongeance such a let down imo he could’ve been one of the deepest shounen characters ever if they showed just a bit more about who he chose to side with

but patry was the only one who helped, sympathized and gave him any kind of support through out what happened so William was split between who to choose
