I got the D90 awhile ago as a graduation gift, and never learned how to use it. I've recently found it again and I'm so excited for this opportunity to learn the basics, and try it out! When I found it, I was worried that maybe it's outdated tech at this point, and wouldn't be worth investing time into charging it up and learning it. But, this gives me hope that I can still get some great use out of it!
Hi Grant, hi oldschool photo friends, I do not leave comments very often. But I got my D90 because of your recommendation last year. It is still going strong and I use it for all purposes: family, sports, indoors, outdoors… paired it with a Sigma 30mm 1.4 on day 1 and it still is my favourite combo. I also use the Nikkor 18-200, the Tamron 17-50 2.8 and an my cheapest glass: A Sigma 70-300 macro, which I use for shooting sailing events. All in all I did not pay more than 300€ on my gear and I get fantastic results. We print photos in normal sizes and watch them on TV with family and friends. I started taking pictures when my first son was born ten years ago. Took my smartphone, stepped up to a Sony NEX 5R, then got my D90 and when I bought the Nikkor 18-200, I got a D200 for free. I shoot beautiful portraits and landscapes with it, but my grab’n go is the D90. Now, as kids sport events become faster and my daughter does gymnastics indoors, I think about the Tamron 70-200 2.8 and maybe a Nikon D7200. Nevertheless, the D90 will stay ready to shoot on my shelf, at this price tag my kids are allowed to take pictures with it. If it breaks, I can get a new one for the price of a half tank full. Thanks for your great videos, keep up new work on old stuff. Best wishes to you from Germany.
Hi Grant. I used to shoot Nikon DSLRs in the early to mid 2000s before switching over to micro fours thirds (Olympus bodies with Olympus and Panasonic lenses). I recently went to Hawaii and took one camera body of each system with a few lenses. I took the Olympus with me for hikes and street photos and the Nikon for places we drove to like a Luau and the beaches. I haven't shot my Nikon D300 for a few years. To be honest, I had more keepers with my Olympus E-P5, but I really enjoyed both cameras. Both systems have their own strengths and weaknesses and I will start shooting my DSLRs more. Thanks for the great video
I found a D90 with 18-55 and 55-300 lenses in a skip bin a couple of weeks ago....Ordered a battery/charger from Amazon and the camera works perfectly..Total investment $36.00.....Having so much fun with it!!!
Hi Grant! Such a great camera! I bought mine 14 years ago together with the 18-55mm and the 55-200mm for 900 EUR. This year I traded (at MPB) the 55-200mm with the amazing 35mm and the 70-300mm for less than 200 EUR!!! What a joy of camera, solid, reliable, amazing image quality and a battery that lasts forever. Many times I go for shooting together with my G9. The D90 can be found between 75-90-120 in MPB Europe depending on the condition; good-very good-excellent, some of them with shutter count less than 10,000. It is difficult to resist to these prices when you see cameras at 1,000 EUR that look like toys and deliver images with a debatable quality.
I bought it in December of 2009. Although for the past 3 years I have been using the Zfc, I will never sell it! The build quality is great and the quality of the images amazing! You can't tell the difference between the Zfc and the D90.
I indicated I have a GX85 coming tomorrow. Additionally I have a Canon 5D MK2 coming. I started as a Canon shooter and have lenses. My motivation is similar to yours.
A while ago I picked up a super clean D90 for tiny money, as have a few old vintage Nikkor lenses and thought a cheap F mount digital camera had a place in the collection. I didn't realise, however, that the D90 doesn't meter with the older AI / AIS lenses, so that was a bit of a flub, as mine are all manual lenses. I traded it in on a D700 instead, but after using it for a while (lovely though the images are), I realised I'm just too spoiled by modern mirrorless. The D700 is a heavy beast and you have to have the will to pack it, which is hard when its competition weights less than half and sits in the palm of your hand. Also, with the Fuji film sims and some adapted classic glass, I can get the look I'm after in the jpeg and the dynamic range is better. I think I've probably hit radical acceptance that the DSLR days are over for me. On the other hand, if you just want a great camera on the super cheap, grab the D90 and a couple of nice AF D lenses and you'll be very happy!
Hi Grant, love your channel. I’ve just ordered a D90. I used to shoot with a D700 and D810 but after breaking my ankle, I can’t lump heavy gear around. I mainly shoot with the Z6 ii now. I was wondering if the sensor has the same look as the d700 (same generation and also 12mp) ?
Ah your Aussie lingo makes me feel homesick! Love your D90 videos and your appreciation for older tech. Considering picking up a D90 as a second/third camera to sometimes replace my D3300 that had its viewfinder AF go out of calibration with faster lenses. (Tried a D5200 from MPB, same issue but worse, so back it went. All with AF-S lenses, fine on my D600.) Just wondering how big a low-light performance hit would be using a D90 over a D3300..? Going by data on photonstophotos and DXOmark it's 1/3 a stop or less, but I haven't been able to find any real-world comparisons. I'd most often use the D90 with an 85mm f/1.8 alongside the D600 with a shorter FL prime or f/2.8 standard zoom in lowish to very low light.
I don't have a D90 but I do own & use my D70s that I love taking pics with it.... although I upgraded to a D7100 & then a D500 the D70s is something different & still takes great pics with any of my F mount lenses... cheers 👍😀
I am still using two D90's in 2024. Paired with some old lenses. They just work! Yes, I've used and owned newer cameras and lenses. I am satisfied with the results from the D90's.
Yeah - the D90 ist great, i had one a couple of years ago. One downside was the poor af performance in live view but the quality of the pictures was fantastic and the battery lasted for ages. When my D90 broke I bought a E-M10ii and last year a OM-1.
I just picked up a Nikon D90 the other day and the lense on it reads "Nikon dx swm VR Ed if aspherical 72" do you have any tips on that lense? Also I'm a first-time DSLR camera owner.

I just got my old D90 out charged up the battery and yes, it’s pure fun. I did have to relearn the setting but once done I was shooting!
This! Did that too recently, and I couldn't be much happier

My nikon hd90 has less than 5000 shots 😂
Another good quick look at the D90. Glad I have one in my collection and sure is fun to use!
In India 🇮🇳 , every photo studio at least had one D90 , in past and present also. I have 2 in 2021, now I am using sony 7m3

Great to hear!
Love it mate!! Cannot wait to see and hear more about your D90 brother.

Spot on Nikon D90 superb

Same here for it few weeks back, manual lens, no AF lens😅, any tips regarding getting sharp photos, and metering workaround

Thanks man... Yeah, same kinda vibes - I had a D700 but I prefered the results from the D90 :)

Nothing wrong with older cameras. I still want to buy a Canon 5D Classic. I wish I knew this I was buying my first camera and spent my cash on glass.

Hi, yes you could make a video with the settings you use, thanks in advance.
Thanks Grant, looking forward to more topic’s. B
Great video man. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
I found one in mint condition in a thrift store for 18 quid.

:) No, sorry I have no experience with that lens :( Have fun with your D90 :)
