Hate to break it to you but this is all tip of the iceberg of modern/future terrors. Let me give a taste with your cars. Not even future. Now. For as long as computers have been in cars to steer assist, break assist, make bumpers and airbags safer, detect your tires, check your engine, and time your pistons nice and neat, your car has been hackable. You can hack a vehicle to control it remotely and remotely destroy the evidence so since mid 90s but for the average consumer 2000s. Or nowadays no need to get physical. There's Bluetooth and radio-waves to access your vehicle with and just send a software hack into it.. and only after this was displayed did cars get updated with malware protection.. meaning some cars, a lot of them, going around today just don't have a lot of protection. And lockpicking lawyer as an example of security being shit, software is not amazingly better, perhaps worse soon. You don't need to be amazing at programming to be able to make a deep learning network. And training an AI can be done by just about any schmuck even if they haven't a clue.

oh, hospital malware especially the pacemakers are very interesting. I've actually written presentations on that and how vulnerable the rest of IoT devices are. My favorite on that topic is the dolphin attack. Alexa's and google home type devices can detect sounds out of the human range so someone can use these out of range sounds to give one of these devices a command. Oh and here's something related to your talk about DNA. There was a proof of concept a while back that bio identification devices could be broken or bypassed by giving it human information that causes a SQL injection. Imagine someone reprinting their thumb to start inserting malicious information or creating a string of DNA that causes a system to crash. I just think that is really cool.

If your drone is registered and you’re legally flying in the NAS, shooting it down is a felony. And taking over a plane through the radio is pretty difficult since if the plane starts an uncommanded turn all the pilot has to do is change the frequency or just turn off the radio. We can fly a plane with our eyes, a compass, and engine settings or airspeed indications. So as long as a pilot is on the flight deck, good luck controlling it when I can shut off every system and still maintain control. At 35,000 feet I can shut down the engines if you some how screwed with them and still glide 150 miles to an airport and safely land.

"The beat of the Macarena" actually probably wasn't the _best_ example of a doomsday pacemaker hack. The tempo of the Macarena is a steady 103 beats per minute. Depending on your age and general physical condition, a normal resting adult heart rate, according to the American Heart Association, is 60-100 BPM. 103 BPM at rest is technically tachycardia, and it'll probably lead to trouble if it takes a while for people to notice or correct the hack, but you won't have people _everywhere_ just suddenly stop in their tracks simultaneously and keel over. "Pacemaker-mediated tachycardia" is a thing doctors deal with _now._

This may help some people feel better about flying: The "outdatedness" of most aircraft can actually be a security advantage due to the fact that older aircraft are more or less completely isolated from the rest of the environment.
I have not read the article so I can not be sure, but only much much newer aircraft should be at risk with progressively less complex aircraft being progressively safer.
As I see it there are three levels of risk, starting with at most risk and going to least they are:
1)Aircraft fitted with a powerful computer, a fly-by-wire system, and wifi all interconnected; these aircraft could be potentially remotely controlled fully.
    2) Basic computers, wifi, and glass cockpit instrumentation; these will not be able to be fully controlled but false information can be presented to the pilot, luckily most glass cockpit aircraft still have more traditional instrumentation in case of emergencies in addition to screens. The emergency instruments are pito-static so the pilot will still get reliable vertical and horizontal velocities along with altitude. The cockpit may also have a magnetic compass.
In short, the pilot should be able to identify the issue and safely land the aircraft. Even if the radio is compromised pilots are trained to be able to communicate with the ground through light signals and wing tilts. (This is also the most likely configuration for a budget airliner!)
    3) radio, fly by wire, wifi, basic computer,+anything less complex, all these systems should not be connected other than by power source. The worst risk is the dynamos being blown up by a power surge, this is highly unlikely tho due to thin wires and surge protectors/circuit breakers implemented in almost every aircraft. The worst reasonable risk posed to these aircraft is radio jamming, which as previously addressed can be nullified by the fact that all U.S student pilots are required to know light signals designed exactly for situations in which radio communication is not posable.

Honestly, the thing about 3D printers is they can't do anything we couldn't already do. Pipe guns are possible to make, fake cars would be much easier to make with fiberglass than 3DP. Some things, like the skimmers you mentioned, are probably easier with a printer, but mostly it's just another tool for doing the same things.
The hacking though? Yeah. We're getting real close to having anything hackable. That and who do you think will control these implants? Pay-to-play IRL might be a thing. Oh, you wanted COLOR vision with your cybernetic eyes? That'll be $35/mo.

You completely missed the one that has been tested by security researchers and shown to be viable for at least one particular car with or without direct physical access to the vehicle. It was a number of years back now that they found an attack surface in the bluetooth connectivity system in a car that could be used to touchlessly manipulate the car's other systems, including showing a different speed than the actual speed, slamming on the brakes at high speed, and *disabling the brakes.* It required a bit of work to set up but if you had 30 seconds access to the inside of the vehicle and a pre-setup device you could access it's ODM port and make it *far* easier. After seeing a tow truck driver at work, I can definitely say that gaining that kind of access is almost trivial, and outright laughably easy if you are a 'dedicated attacker.'

I mean 3d printing a gun is actually among the more difficult way to go, you can literally just go in to any hardware store and go out with materials for a gun for about 20 bucks and have it built in under half a hour, 50 bucks and a day if you want to make anything fancy with a magazine,
in fact it's so easy to make a fire arm that I used to have a old WW2 gorilla warfar manual (my grandpa served but I'm not sure if that's where it came from) which explained in detail how to convert any spring loaded pen in to a single use emergency fire arm of a small caliber, and this is something so simple that 10 year old me pretty much understood how to do it back when I had the manual so 3d printing really seems like the most roundabout difficult way to go about making a gun...
Though I am a engineering student so maybe it's just one of those things that seem easy to DIY to me but not to a normal person but I'm pretty sure anyone can do it, normal people used to make pipe guns all the time back during the soviet union

    • @anyGould

I was having similar thoughts - the Lockpicking Lawyer already showed them how to make casts of keys (which was faster then the printer), they've made blades out of scrap metal... 3d printers are cool but it just made these things easier/cooler rather than changing the impossible to possible.

  • @colossalcubes

anti drone tech is as good ads it needs to get. just needs to get cheaper. the no.1 way is the radar like guns they have. they direct waves in the control frequency in a specific area and cause so much interference that the drone cant get control updates, and many high quality ones at that point perform a self-landing to try to prevent damage. that allows the person incapacitating the drone the ability to just walk over and pick it up

      @user-ox7id9he5v 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@The5thorseman but relative to the price of a high end 3d printer, they aren't that much more expensive, and the metal "printed" is actually incredibly strong- Adam Savage made a titanium Ironman suit that was bullet and blast resistant. Even though it was titanium, it still shows the strength of the method used to "print" it( laying a fine metal powder then melting it with a laser to create a layer) which allows for a strong bond with minimal loss of strength

It is worrying because technology has developed so far that people are always trying to find exploits to breach the system. It will only get worse.
