Great job as always Heather and Leo. You always have my full attention. Lincoln's eldest son, Robert Todd Lincoln was Garfield's Secretary of War. Robert Todd was with Garfield when he was shot. Just a tidbit of historical trivia. Thanks Hillbillies. ❤😊
Such a sad family story, especially losing the two children at such young ages. Fascinating history! I'm 68 and learned my history, but I'll be darned if I can remember any of it today😂😂 So, thanks for taking the time to give the refresher courses, Heather and Leo. Your videos are terrific!!!
That's interesting. I was septic a few years back. It was bad enough with antibiotics , i cant imagine what president Garfield went through. I would have died if back in his time. As it was i almost died in this decade. Thanks for the history lesson !
There are some really beautiful homes in Prestonburg. I stopped by the Middle Creek Battlefield on my way home from Dingess, WV. His presidency was very short. It was so sad that he was assassinated. Thank you Leo and Heather.
You two can really knock them out of the park, I don't imagine too many were interested in the death of President Garfield but you all made it interesting Thank you
Gen John Breckinridge was the general for the Confederates in the Battle of New Market, VA. The battle that put the Virginia Military Institute cadets into the Confederate line. The Battle of New Market was the last Confederate win in the Shenandoah Valley. John Breckinridge was also a Vice-President for under Buchanan. Come on over to the Valley to see the battlefield.
Thanks fuys for another interesting story. Its amazing the advancements of medicine and medical procedures. Its really sad to think how many folks died back then, not because of an injury or wound, but to infection. Thanks for all the stories ya'll bring us and all the effort you put into these stories. It really is appreciated. Ya'll bring out facts that are not commonly known and bring up stories that otherwise would be lost. God bless ya'll and ya'll stay safe on your travels to these locations.
Before the civil war these general's, majors, captains, col.ans all went to West point they were all men that respected each. That was changed everyone's lives. Gen. Hallock was a good friend to Gen. Lee. It's sad how north and south still carries this feeling of hate. Wanting to kill even after the war. Thank you for sharing this. My family was union but I don't mind giving the rebel cry
My former house was owned by a businessman who had friends on both sides of the Civil War. He had a home in the north and one in the south. He knew all the prominent people of the time and always did what he could to mend fences afterwards. The daughters of the northern general and the southern general met in my parlour at a party in my townhouse after the war.
Their is a soldier buried in my family cemetery. That had died. I believe they were either on way to this battle or after. They left him on our farm. My gg grandpa Joesph Gearheart buried him. He just got headstone in 90s. My relatives in that picture. I found name Nathaniel cook! They were headed to this battle! He was wounded in Ivy Creek Battlefield. They left him so my family buried him!
I enjoyed this one about President Garfield I heard he was shot! But nothing else . Thank you for doing this One very interesting I guess we all learn more every Day!.
That big rock looks like a big kettle head . These things were dangerous to miners as they would fall out of the roof of a mine . Saw some in Breathett county , and was told the story by a feller that every one said " the truth is In him as it never comes out " .
Got a great surprise on this video you done on James Garfield My GGrandfather Archibald Scalf was in the picture of the oldest living veterans of the civil war he’s the one with long white beard 4 from left I think. He’s got a cool history was captured in the battle there and taken to Mi was a pow Thur 1861\65. His cousin also but his cousin passed away Arch made it back to Ky was a evangelist minister, traveling my horse, back down to town spreading the word of God he also was a father of 10 children ? More maybe. Lived a long life of 90 years he’s buried at the relocation cemetery at Auxier Ky he does have a military Civil War marker. His wife is by his side, Sarah Ann Sellards Scalf. The cemetery was relocated when a dam went through Johns Creek. If I have my story right would love it if you could go to the relocation cemetery and find his grave for me. I am in Ohio now and I am 73. I do hope to come one day also to find room graves love your show. Love you guys you do a great job. Darlene Scalf Howard
My 2x gr uncle Nelson Boggs was at that battle. He was killed in the battle. His body was placed in a tree on the battlefield so it wouldn't be trampled by the confederates. Nelson's commander was Garfield. My x2 gr grandfather and two other uncles also were in that battle. Garfield presided over the funeral for Nelson in Louisa, KY.
I see people are getting ready for Halloween 🎃 Interesting story. Sad, but interesting. In those days, Presidents did not have secret service protection, like they do today. If they did, that man would not have gotten anywhere near the President. You would have thought, that a lesson would have been learned from President Lincoln's assassination. Thank you very much Leo and Heather, for another great story, and video. Have a great weekend. 😊
If the Confederates held Kentucky and Western Tenn. and acquired Missouri, the war may have ended differently. Perhaps a win for the South,or at least,it may have added a 1 or 2 to the war.

They were all Americans on both sides. Garfield was one of our beloved presidents. Thanks Heather and Leo for the great story!
