This song is definitely the most experimental out of all in PPOP. ALAMAT in general have always been unique as they use not only Filipino, but other languages in the Philippines.. that and they also have an ongoing problem of putting who the hell the rappers are cause dear lord I was not expecting almost all of them to rap.

Really love how PPOP groups are not afraid to explore genre's and even mixing them WHAT? and ILY ILY are two classic examples of very experimental songs but still awesome as hell.

Some people are saying this is the Filipino Bohemian Rhapsody. Also, let me explain what’s going on in the MV as best as I can:
“ili ili”, which means “little one” in Ilonggo language, is a wholesome childrens lullaby which they sung a part of it in the intro. There’s this old Filipino horror movie that used the original “ili ili” lullaby, and made the wholesome lullaby sound so creepy. ALAMAT stuck with that creepy vibe at the beginning of the MV. I thought I was gonna have nightmares watching the teaser 😂 ALAMAT spelled “ILY ILY” with a “Y” instead of the original “i” which, like you mentioned, is supposed to be an acronym for “I love you” since it’s dedicated to their parents working abroad.
Mo is acting like the typical older brother who is reminding their younger sibling about how hard their parents are working abroad, and to not spend so frivolously. Alas in the MV responds back like spoiled brat saying it’s their parent’s fault for choosing to live abroad and work.
5:43 The choir sound in vocals matched perfectly with what’s going on. This scene is how Filipinos celebrate Holy Week before Easter. Some people self flagellate themselves with whips for their all their sins, but the Catholic Church does not approve of this act at all. Apparently this scene of them crawling on the ground and self flatulence is supposed to represent how much Jesus suffered moments before being nailed to the cross. But since this song is about our parents, it can also represent their hardwork and sacrifice for their children as they work abroad.
11:07 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) would always send either money that they earned, large boxes of goods from foreign land to their family back home. These boxes are called “Balikbayan Boxes”. These goods can include food, clothes, toys, house supplies…anything that they may find useful. The part where ALAMAT and Lyca are tearing up the boxes reminds me of the frustration of spoiled children who didn’t get what they expected or wanted in their Balikbayan Boxes. Of course they miss their parents and want them to return home, but at the same time, they always have high expectations whenever they get sent these boxes from foreign lands. They got disappointed and unappreciative and threw a tantrum. Typical parents would never want to let their children know how much they are really suffering, and since we all live in a digital world, they hide their suffering behind the camera everytime they communicate on their phones so the children won’t worry. Because of this, it often makes the children forget how hard their parents are working and how much their parents are suffering in another country due to loneliness.

So many Philippino families have one or both parents working over seas to provide a better future. It is so hard because they are apart for years at a time. Such a true situation for so many there. Concerns for their loved ones too that are sacrificing so much for the family. There are others just not realizing or taking for grated what their family does for them. I love Alamat for so many songs with cultural and social comments. They are trying to bring to people's realization. How others are living. Addressing things needing to be addressed. With much pride and love too for their culture and coutry. This is why they are my favorites. They are the WHOLE package as artists in music and their message!!! Love!!!!

It's understandable to be creeped cause of the melody, it was used as a part or a Filipino horror story. Btw, just discovered Alamat because of your channel. Wow, sick beatsss.

Yeah girl I know right? What I love about this song is that even though it's like 3 genres in one, it still sounds so cohesive, it isn't messy to hear at all. So hard core and satisfying! I feel you girl!

Thanks for your reaction and appreciation of ALAMAT. They always serve music that stick with you after. So much to unpack and to process because they dare to touch on social and historical issues. KASMALA, ABKD were also quite a powerful statement.
You were quite observant with some sounds incorporated in the background. To connect with the OFW and their family story, you can hear skype tones, even airport sounds.
4 more songs coming out to complete the 6 for their mini album (inc Say U Love Me and ILY ILY). More to appreciate and gush over for ALAMAT! As always, expect the unexpected with them.

This song is amazing bc it perfectly captures the guilt of a Filipino/Filipino American child. Our parents have worked in cities away from us, in countries away from us to ensure we had the basics. While they give us all these clothes, and send us money to be able to have bday parties, they are not there for the family times that lots of other kids get.
I interpreted Lyca laying in a grave of money and unhappily throwing and disregarding the money as her unhappy with HOW she got this money. How can you accept all these material things knowing all the suffering it took to get here? Many of our parents and grandparents are immigrants so not only do they often work with minimal pay but are subject to mistreatment.

    2:20
At first, I'm confuse too so I watched their Studio Record vid. 😂
    4:24 6:35
"They're talking serious but that ahhaaaaa." 😂
    You're always cute, April! Haha
Each of the MV scene actually translates the reality of a life with OFW parents.
"ili ili" is a Filipino Folk song (lullaby) from another region and in another Filipino language, 'ilonggo'. Its about a woman trying to make a child sleep because its parents is not around.
"ily ily, tulog anay. Wala diri imong nanay. Gitinda bakal imo papay."
"Child, sleep now. Your mom is not here. Your dad sells scrap."
Its just funny because 'ily ily' is used in horror movies here in PH. Thus, the creepy vibes. 😂
Most of my family members are OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers).
    6:51 8:20
For example, in Tomas & Rji scenes...
We're just happy to have the Skype/Messenger online video call thing where we can see each other...
Unlike before where we can only send tapes to saved our messages and wait for a very long long time to received it.
There we're 2 types of children there.
The 1st one were the big brothers/ elder children who take care of their younger sibling.
    5:43
    Its called, "PENITENSYA".
A traditional act during Holy Week to show the Passion of Christ.
Its like the representation of the hardship of the parents working overseas. And the older brothers understand that. Because they sacrifice too to take care of themselves and their younger siblings at an early age.
    7:45
The 2nd one is the younger one who spends money easily. But despite the bratty attitude, she is not happy. Because the truth is, she understands too.
    11:08
Even though they bicker, both of them wanted their parents to come home. No amount of gifts/presents can replace parents' presence.
    13:48
ABKD is not sad. Its very inspiring.
Can we request your reaction to ABKD, Sis? 😍
    Thank you for supporting Ppop!
    Salamat po!
    💕 Have a nice day po, Sis ! 💕
