This really is a superb lesson; there's a minimum of "uh...pinky on...uh 8th fret, no 9th fret, uh...," and you've nailed the nuances in the progression and teach the correct voicings, which are subtly different. I needed to learn this song quickly for an upcoming "80's party request" and this was terrific.
I am a guitarist that has recently been in, and auditioned for, quite a few cover bands. I am returning to live music 2 years ago, after an over 24 year hiatus, so I didn't have resources like these TH-cam lessons back then.....just a CD or tape cassette player, and my ears! Your resource has been invaluable to me, and I just wanted to say THANK YOU! The concept is not unique, but your style and method of teaching is, to me, above the vast majority of your contemporaries. When I have a song to learn, I smile when I see you have a video for it, as I know it will be phenomenal! (PS, and love that EB JP!)
Saw my first lessons here couple of years ago and it felt kinda hard and long… now it feels different your work is been helping me out since then man, I really appreciate you 🙏🏾
I would like to thank you personally for sharing this Video lesson. I always respected the guitarist from The Cars...he always had a classy style that stayed with me forever. Learning this song is so much fun...THank You! P.S. I couldnt help but hum the song Best Shot as well!
Great lesson Carl love that song, please keep up the good work I plan on learning songs from you for about the next 10 years or more, keep rockin brother! 🎸😎
Carl! Please do HAVE A CIGAR by Pink Floyd! There isn't even one lesson of this great song on all of TH-cam! And I only want to learn from you... you're the best, straight up!
I know you get tons of song requests and can't begin to honor all of them...but I feel like Rush is woefully underrepresented in your uploads. La Villa Strangiato is an underrated (or least known) guitar classic. It is a nearly 10 min song, but there are repeated patterns that would make the lesson more condensed. If not that one...maybe YYZ, Spirit Of Radio, Freewill or even the clichéd Tom Sawyer. But on the cusp of their (most likely) last major tour of their career...a little Rush (Alex Lifeson) love would be appreciated :)
Thank you. I tried to learn from Marty Swartz ugh so bad. Yours is awesome. The only thing I disagree with is the ending of the solo I think it's really close but not quite. But it's fine.
OK, I know nothing about playing guitar. But how do you know this entire progression? Is it from watching or is it written down somewhere or ...? Impressive!
good lesson nice job check out rick beatos "what makes this song great" the cars just what i needed rick points out an inversion change thats sweet lots of info on the prodiction as well
Great video! One question. During the pre-choruses when they do the little slide action on the E, you said play the first 4 chords. Which ones? The A flat major E major, E major with G2 and then E major?
Great lesson as always, the only thing for me is I would roll back the distortion about 10 - 15%. I find that it muddy's up the tone for me and the tones just blur together. Just saying...
F**king Awesome !!! Ill be Playing This Bad Boy Soon. Thanx And Keep Em Coming. Maybe You Can Do A Kiss Song, Im Looking For The Fills & Riffs For "Hard Luck Woman". Help Me Out,Will Ya? Thanx Man
are you playing the power chord with your pinky? is that ok? sometimes on fast 2 string power chords i find it easier and less painful to use fingers 1 and 4. Am i developing bad habits??
Yeah, thanks for doing this. I learned a lot from this tutorial. I had it all charted out, including the solo, but it still didn't sound quite right. I was trying to be a wimp and not do the whole step bends cuz it hewt my fingews. So, now I see that in order to make it sound right I'm gonna have to be a manly man and do the whole step bends!
The Cars are criminally underrated. Fantastic band.
Elliot Easton always wrote such memorable guitar parts and solos. Greg Hawks also wrote great melodies. What a band.

This is why I subscribe to you. I can just jump to where I need the help. Many can play. Many can teach. Not many can do both. Excellent job
Short of some family moments in life, nailing this lead has been one of the happiest things I've ever done, thanks Carl , great job brother
Saw my first lessons here couple of years ago and it felt kinda hard and long… now it feels different your work is been helping me out since then man, I really appreciate you 🙏🏾
Excellent lesson, professionally delivered. Better than any tab for the solo I have seen. Thanks very much!

A lot of Chet Adkin’s in Elliot’s solos/Riffs
Thank you so much Carl! You are becoming more and more my go to! ❤
Carl, you are a very good teacher. Thank you for all the detail I have been looking for. Also, you are a great guitar player! Thanks!

These lesson is just what i needed thanks Carl
I don't know your name but I can tell you that you are one of the top 5 guitar teachers in You Tube Globally. Many many Thanks for this lesson !
Thank you for breaking this down! My band wants to cover it so this was a perfect lesson!
Thank you Carl for showing how to play the great solo in this song! Much appreciated, you're a great teacher! Kudos :-)
I don't know what I would do without your lessons they are so good awesome teacher you are thank you so much.
Great Lesson and you are superbly talented ! Enjoy the lesson and Kudos to you!
The riff is similar to "Hit me with your best shot" by Pat Benatar
@@joejones9520 You're right, but with a bit of Chuck Berry rhythm.
I thought the same!
Man you are freakin awesome...this is my fave riff and you are a master at it!
I like the way you teach
SUCH a perfect song. thx for a good lesson
You have the best lessons man. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Another outstanding tutorial from you. I've got to learn this one for a cover band, and this is spot-on! Thanks again.
never realised how similar this is to hit me with your best shot
Great lesson Carl love that song, please keep up the good work I plan on learning songs from you for about the next 10 years or more, keep rockin brother! 🎸😎
That is an amazing solo
Elliott Easton id badass

Great band, great song, great cover - thanks.

You're great Mr Carl brown, nice lesson.

mda037 I was just thinking the same thing yesterday, more Rush is on the way shortly! Thanks for watching.
New subscriber, thanks for replying!
Sehr gut beschrieben!Very good !
You’ve got that dialed in dude!
Carl, I hope you got paid a lot for this! Great, thorough, detailed lesson, thanks!
Awesome lesson! Could you please do Great White Buffalo? Thanks!
your a legend carl
You are= you're
Thank you. I tried to learn from Marty Swartz ugh so bad. Yours is awesome. The only thing I disagree with is the ending of the solo I think it's really close but not quite. But it's fine.
Thanks!

Nice lesson :). I would like to see some lessons of solos from Avenged Sevenfold ("Heretic", "Not Ready To Die" or "Buried Alive" for example).
Hail to the King would be awsome
nice job on the solo.. how did anybody ever think of that ?? its sooo quirky cool
Sounds like Heat of the Moment - Asia
Hit Me With Your Beat Shot
OK, I know nothing about playing guitar. But how do you know this entire progression? Is it from watching or is it written down somewhere or ...? Impressive!
9:30 solo
Hey, thanks for the great lesson.
ANyone knows what kind of amp/guitar effect Rick OCasek and Elliott Easton use for this song?
Thanks :)
good lesson nice job
check out rick beatos "what makes this song great" the cars just what i needed
rick points out an inversion change thats sweet
lots of info on the prodiction as well
Could you, please, make a "Stranger Eyes" lesson?) That's also a great song 🎸.
Great video! One question. During the pre-choruses when they do the little slide action on the E, you said play the first 4 chords. Which ones? The A flat major E major, E major with G2 and then E major?
A song that seems to get forgotten alot is Jethro Tull's, Aqualung and this is especially true for that iconic solo....if you know what I mean ;)
Great lesson as always, the only thing for me is I would roll back the distortion about 10 - 15%. I find that it muddy's up the tone for me and the tones just blur together. Just saying...
Great song
In the chorus when you strum the muted chords, are you supposed to mute the strings with your left hand, or just palm mute with the right hand?
Can you do a lesson for You Might Think by the Cars?
What kind of effects are you using? I love that tone
Awesome bro! :D
What type of strings do you use and what gauge?
What is immediately after the bend on 6 on the high e on the solo? Is it 6 then 4? He doesn't explain.
F**king Awesome !!! Ill be Playing This Bad Boy Soon. Thanx And Keep Em Coming.
Maybe You Can Do A Kiss Song, Im Looking For The Fills & Riffs For "Hard Luck Woman".
Help Me Out,Will Ya? Thanx Man
I want those little keyboard parts that are after the verses, please. I could figure them out by ear...but I'm too lazy to do so, lol.

?
El riff se parece al del tema hit me with your best shoot
You should do a video for "Goodbye to You" by Scandal.
9:23 solo
carl you do an outstanding job teaching songs. if i could make a request, going to california by led zeppelin.
Hi Carl can you teach tonight she comes by the cars? Cheers
are you playing the power chord with your pinky? is that ok? sometimes on fast 2 string power chords i find it easier and less painful to use fingers 1 and 4. Am i developing bad habits??
what amp are you using in this video?
3:39
What Ernie Ball are you play? And how do I like it. I've narrowed down to Ernie Ball and prs
Carl is playing a Sterling by Music Man John Petrucci signature model. IMO you can’t go wrong with that or PRS. 🙂
Could you make a tutorial of Without Love by Bon Jovi?
How do you make your guitar sound like that?
Good Lesson... including the chord names would help.
Cool
and the end solo?
molly hatchet chords and lead to Dreams I'll never see
play it on the Acoustic guitar
Spaced Man I feel like that would make the song sound boring. Yet again I think most songs on the acoustic sound boring
Oh yeah got it
Nice vid but it would be nice if you could do "November Rain" (the solos)
My pinky finger just won’t do that yet .
Capo on 4 make this song really easy.
Tsk tsk…calling G# an Ab in E major? Just kidding…this is a fantastic lesson!
Hot Carl Brown is the shit!!!
Exactly the same as hit me with your best shot...
I hear "hit me with your best shot" during the chorus....
Oh it's Geen Day
Ylove your page, but name the chords
hmmm....chorus is very similar to Pat Benatar's 'Hit Me w/Your Best Shot' .....
Bands today can't even write a song worth shite these days!
Cool..but i could never remember ..i was lost after 4 seconds..id never been musical..funny how some people pick it up in no time.
More zeppelin :)
OMG IF YOU weren't so good looking i may even be able to learn this.
It’s basically hit me with your best shot! Not much difference, maybe pat benatars guitarist borrowed the whole damn song
