The BIG ZONEofTECH Performance Analysis series is currently in the works! Been in the works for the last few months actually! Can't wait for you guys to see it next week! Essentially:
    - We wrote an app that does a lot of the performance testing for us. Essentially automating the entire process, to eliminate user error, speed up the process and test a lot more scenarios than we normally could
    - We're testing not just synthetic benchmarks (geekbench, cinebench, gfx bench) but also real world usage (3D rendering, coding, video editing, music production, photo editing and more)
    - We're also monitoring a ton of things too. Temperatures, clock speeds, power draw PER CORE cluster, individual fan speed, GPU usage, RAM usage and so much more!
Get ready for next week! 🍿

in terms of which config I got for myself, it is:
      - 14" Space Grey / 10-core M1 Max / 32-core GPU / 32GB RAM / 1TB Storage
Overkill I know. But hopefully will last me for many years to come.

I went through this with the 15 and 13. I went for the 13 and having used it extensively around the world and at home I really appreciated choosing it over the 15. On occasions I wished there was a bit more screen space, especially when viewing large spreadsheets or when viewing multiple windows. But the portability was perfect and when in the office, I hooked it up to my 27inch Lg screen. On this occasion, I was thinking I’d try the 16 but these machines are heavy. Even the 14. I didn’t want to compromise that portability and ease of moving it around. So I went for the 14. I still get that smaller form factor but have a slightly larger screen than my old 13. Also, it’s not really important but I love the look of the smaller speaker grills. Seems more uniforms and aesthetically pleasing than the larger model. If you need a larger screen when out and about, go for the 16. Else, I think the 14 really is the sweet spot.

You didn't factor in the fact that the 16in will feel massive if you've been using the 14in computer for a couple of days.
I got a 16in m1 mbp and I came from a 2017 13in mbp. It only took me 2 days to get used to the "weight" and I'll never got back to a smaller screen size. I work at a coffee shop and the 16in is still significantly smaller than most other laptops in its class. I no longer have to hunch over to complete my work.
Once you upgrade from the 8 core to the 10 core cpu its only a $200 difference to get a bigger screen, 4 additional hours of battery life, and slightly better speakers (more bass). Apple does this to get you to upgrade and it's the logical choice. Lastly, I noticed the 16in computer feels more comfortable in my lap.

Everyone talks about portability, ok 16" has a bigger form factor but you are also carrying around a lot more power and battery life. If you don't need that power, just settle with an iPad and don't bother with a Macbook Pro at all.

Most of my time i work in adobe illustrator, premiere pro and blender (but not big things like whole sets, mainly small objects to put into posters/visuals etc). Which one is more future-proof, both upgrades together (RAM+Chip) are probably too expensive for me. Use cases are creative work, school and the usual daily tasks (media consumption, etc.) and I‘d like to keep this laptop for at least 6 years without any major perfomance issues. Both would be great. Just depends what you’re doing. If you’re using more RAM hungry software on a daily basis (like After Effects), consider getting the extra RAM. The extra two CPU cores look good on paper, and you should get more performance out of them in the real world, but I’m not sure if it would be that significant.

Nonetheless, the screen coating on the older models does sometimes come off, this actually was an issue, but that was due to bad design and started in the edges, not at the bottom.
