  • On May 26, 2009 the California Supreme court voted six to one in favor of upholding Proposition 8, which prohibits same-sex couples from marrying in California. Rallies, protests and marches were held all around the country after the decision was announced. I went to Chicago's Decision Day Rally at North Halsted Street and Waveland Avenue to see how locals are reacting to the ruling

I have hope! Despite the questionable methods the anti-gay marriage groups used to garner votes to pass prop 8, and the underhanded source of funding they received from the morman church, prop 8 only passed by 4 percentage points. For all of those out there that think a 52-48 win is a landslide and that "the people have spoken", maybe you should look at the difference in those numbers again - 4 points. Trends point toward the acceptance of gay marriage - we will have marriage equality!
