I am currently looking at a 94 j78 LC Prado. From what they are stating, there is a noticable head/valve tap. Based on your video seems like replacing the full head assembly would be a doable job. It sucks that this is the one that fits everything I’ve been looking for but so happens to be the one with mechanical issues :| did some searching and found probably the same head off eBay.
Did you crack the injector unions after you first started? That usually sorts the rough running, these do self bleed to an extent but air does get trapped in the feed lines from the injector pump to the injectors and that mostly is only removed by cracking the unions as the injector nozzles would bleed large air bubbles
So,I was wondering since your a Prado owner and I am looking to possibly buy one of these..Do you know if any parts from other Toyotas like the 4Runner or Hilux Surf share parts? Like Lower ball joints, brake pads, brake calipers, suspension components? They appear to be close or the same as far as that stuff goes. Was hoping you could share some information about it. Thanks!
Yes, the Prado 90 shares the same frame/chassis drivetrain as the 3rd gen 4 runner. I literally bought a lift kit for a 4 runner and installed it on my Prado! Same ball joints etc with the exception of the rear brakes. Prado has disc in the rear and 4 runner is drums in the rear
How long did this job take you start to finish? Ordering a replacement this week and gonna knock out glows, injectors, and turbo while I'm at it. Never done anything like this before, and have one buddy willing to help out that is somewhat mechanically inclined. Hoping to knock it out in one day if I can?
Great to know! And did I see correctly you got this done without having to take out the rad?? So it is possible? Just drain it a bit so that when hoses are taken off the head it doesn't spill everywhere?@@KeepingUpWithOzzy
Gotcha. I was seeing some say to only run water in the cooling system for the first 1000kms when you do a new head? Is that really necessary?@@KeepingUpWithOzzy
Hey i have the same Prado and engine, and my cylinder head is off too as there was white smoke at start and rough. I actually changed my head gasket last year but the problem persists. And i did as you, cracked the flow plugs, pressurise the system then crank the engine, i see steam/spray coming out of flow plug 3 hole. I think mine has an internal crack! Not common. Hoping to get my head back this weekend. How is yours running now after the head change?
@@KeepingUpWithOzzy no I didn’t. It was confirmed as internal crack of inlet pot 3. Not sure if anyone can repair that. With my new head, it is running great once warm up, but during warm up of the engine it will rum rough for a couple of mins. Still trouble shooting. Sounds like one of the sensors is bad… great yours is running great!
Nice work
You made it look easy. Great job!
Thanks!

Yes I actually did and it smoothing things right up, been running good ever since!
Am trying to find out if there is a oil reducer in between head and block like 2Kd or 1khz
The cheap complete head do you need to seat valves? Or really ready for mount? I buy one and this is my dubt. Tnks
Valves were already seated and lifters were already shimmed, just did a simple head swap

Nice work! You should get some new motor mounts though :)

Did you send your head out to be repaired?

Is this still running good mate? I need to replace mine is eBay heads worth it???
Yessir, daily driven and runs great

I did, just used some vise grips
