The Stratocaster was SO far ahead of its time, in 1954, is just ridiculous. I got my first guitar -- a 1954 -- in Christmas of 1963, and I have been playing one ever since. IT went out the back window of my brother's 1961 Ford station wagon early one morning. Would love to have one of these!!
I own this guitar... I must admit it is GREAT the one outstanding feature that the video fails to point out is how light it is. It is neat that it is so light and yet feels of such quality. I just love it. I have many Stratocasters, 56 of them, (yes I know my friends say I need meds) but it is rapidly becoming my "go to " strat. I highly recommend anyone buying one. It is also at a reasonable price!
My first STRAT sat in the case a few years before I decided to sit down and really play it, was difficult to play at first, you can't fake anything and every sound comes out- how you play it !! Loved it ever since, now my Les Pauls and others sit around.
i got a squiere since last year and i say its not all about the look, though mine's a vintage design too =) i just wanna say i still love to play it and i wanna congratulate fender for its 60th anniversary !
Treated myself to a scratch and dent AV 1954 for my birthday...I love it! Especially at $800 off the list price. A couple of chips in the laquer mean nothing to me... exceptional tone, incredibly light, and it just feels incredible!
I "get" both sides when it comes to cheapee and top shelfguitars. I own an American Tele, and it is a solid awesome sounding guitar for over 25 years now. I will give it to my son when he gets old enough. It is, sadly, a prestige thing that Fender is currently very, very aware of. It is like they are really encouraging the "Blue Blood" idea of guitar ownership and heritage within their line, as they bump these American prices out of our reach. But it makes you some how want one, right? It also makes you respect a cheaper model, when you pick one up and it feels and plays well or even better than an American. I have pulled guitars off the line at GC and some of their 129 specials, really do out play and out "Feel" some of the poorly set up and polished (fret work and neck feel) "Americans." You have to play them each; it's that simple. Set up, neck feel, and finish are really 85 percent of the deal. But even so, if you don't have that Fender or Gibson on the head stock, you will always get that fool who looks right through the guitar as you play, because it says Squier or Affinity or a MIM or Epiphone , etc. Trust me, Fender and Gibson are more than aware of all this. In fact, I actually believe the separation in classes is their marketing plan. We all settle for something we can afford for now, dump more money into upgrading what we buy, and then hope for the higher end model in the future (What if?). Reality serving, you're much better off to buy a Mexi , so you have the logo so posers don't complain, then make it yours with a guard and hot pickups. You really do have to listen to the guitar first, however, because, the quailty really is hit and miss a the hundred dollar - 2oo range.
Hooo some of the comments on this video.... Especially sacredgeometry. I cant speak for the other guitars, but the 1954 re-issue/replica is pretty spot on. I own one and compared it to a friends actual 1954 (he's a older gentleman that's a guitar dealer and collector). He was amazed at the re-issue and said it was spot on. We even opened her up and compared the insides. Aside from the parts having different manufacturing origins, everything was the same down to the cloth covered wires, and paper and oil capacitors. Also, the guitar is DEFINITELY finished in nitrocellulose (and very thin I might add). I was wiping dust off mine the other day, and started rubbing a bit more vigorously to remove some stubborn smudges and to my horror, I actually "burned" the nitro with the micro fiber cloth I was using. Its not a huge burn mark, but it just reinforces that the nitro is real and its thin. Very vibrant guitar that replaced my 59' reissue as my favorite Strat.
I have a 2014 60th anniversary sunburst strat and I have no idea what it’s worth. There are about 5 different versions of this same model so I’m very confused.
I'm confused. My 2006 American Standard Strat in Olympic white with a one piece solid maple neck/fingerboard has a 60th anniversary medallion in the headstock. What were they celebrating in 2006? Also it has solid steel saddles and silver hardware. Is it a 60th Anniversary Strat too or what it is?
It is no exaggeration to say that this is my favorite fender. Especially this color matching, but I can't buy this color matching guitar in China。 cry~
I have a MIM 50s reissue Fender Strat, I love to death. The only thing is that I play all kinds of rock but I'm a hard rock/metal guy at heart and Strats really aren't designed for heavy metal unless you change the pickups to SD Hotrails (like Iron Maiden for example). I'm between wanting to upgrade the pickups for more punchy growl but I don't really want to lose the Strat sound either. I've been thinking if I buy another Strat and keep it stock and change out the pickups on the one I have so I can have one metal Strat and the other one for blues/rock :p Fender rules!
I'm sure that when I was 10 years old and my Dad and my brother brought home a 1958 Telecaster along with a "Tweedie" tube amp. we dreaming of Stratocasters, right!! I'm applauding a whole new generation of young artists who have walked away from tradition, and taken playing up a notch or two with PRS's and Bilts' and ton's of newer more technically attuned guitars. Selling the concept of how great it is to own and play a 60 yr. old guitar is an insult to the original founding principals of the guitar business. Even Leo Fender knew when it was time to walk away and turn things over to CBS and let them ruin everything. If the 60 years were linear and solid it might be slightly less laughable...but it's not..
Did anyone notice the three-ton sunburst on the 1954 reissue, tell me you saw it, that is no two-tone, there is definitely a hint of red. Just go back and look I swear it looks like black to red to amber, that can't be right.
Nope. That looks right. Color saturation looks greater on the lighter tones for both video and your eyes. So where it goes from deep brown to light brown, you see more of the orange in the brown (brown is just dark orange anyway). There's only 2 colors in that burst. Fender wouldn't f that up!
Admiral Quality Also the background color isn't white, it's amber. So the yellow tone mixes in under the thinning brown, making it look even more orange.
amistry605 So let me tell you a little story. I started playing at age 7 but my father could never buy me a good stratocaster. At about age 17 I worked 10 months in a library and was able to buy my first "ok" strat , which was a squier strat. At that time I was really passionate about playing guitar, Jimi was my big source of inspiration. I loved that squier strat and played it all the time. But, because I wanted a real fender, at some point I started to dislike it. Still I played it - got a chance to play professionaly for some time. This was a time when I was living from playing, and doing well, but I couldnt see it at the time. Then some misfortunes of life obliged me to play less, find a normal everyday job. I no longer played as much, but as I worked more I could finally afford my first real fender guitar at age 26. No doubt it is a wonderful instrument, perfect in every detail, flawless, authentic etc. But you know what? I miss the passion of the days when all I had to play was my old squier. When you've got no choice, you've got to make the best out of what you have. I love my fender strat, but, you know, it's you who make the instrument, not the opposite.
That's the American Standard model. Probably just to make it look fancy. I don't like the look of gold/mother of pearl tuning gears myself. I would be replacing those tuning gears on the American Standard model. I have the American Vintage model. Great guitar!!! I love what's more true to the original.
To be actual serious I don't really here a difference between a squir and a fender I got a bullet strat and a commertive 60th anniversary and I'm going to sell it because I can't really here a difference feel or vibe
Yeah same I don't really like my strat I got a American standard and it doesn't move me I will probably save money and stick to my squir 50s Classic vibe and probably pick up a Tele because they pretty reliable for sound and feel. Have a great day
None of these strats really have that vintage look. Also ... "Its not common that theres a way to 1954 specs on an instrument without breaking the bank" ... and whos fault is that Fender, you could knock out a 1954 strat for less than a standard costs with ease but you dont because you enjoy your profit margin on"vintage" reissues.
They look like they're brand new in 1954. In 30 years they'll have that vintage look. I can't stand "relicing". It's like buying brand new pre-torn jeans.
As for the pricing, it's totally fair. Particularly considering there's only 1954 of these being made. Try building one and see how much time and money it costs you. And Fender have many cheap guitars in early '50s style. But as most Strats aren't '54, and the small changes to the look largely stabilized after 55/56, they tend to target those years. Again, they actually had to obtain examples of real '54 Strats and remeasure them to retool to produce the correct shaped parts. (The original molds and plans are long lost, and the company has changed hands twice.) They go for $60,000 or more. (And even though they may have borrowed some, that's no small job either.)
Admiral Quality They look like they are finished with poly, the tops look a little too figured the gold is nasty, the truss rod adjustment on the 50s is in the wrong place ... its just little things. All of which i probably got wrong which I am welcome to be told, it just doesnt look like the strat from those eras I would have made.
Nah, they're nitrocellulose. Takes a lot more time to apply. It's thinner so needs more applications. And it's the classic design. You can't really compare it to a modern Strat. The bridge sits on the finish on these. Now it's floating, 2 point. Totally different beasts. Nothing against an Am. Std. Strat. Had one. It was great. But in the case of the Strat, which was never "broken", vintage accurate is way cooler and they'll relic themselves over the coming decades. I just want new, old guitars. :)
it sure looks like a nice guitar, but wasn't very impressed when i played the 60th anniversary. the neck on my new american series from 2000 is a bit beefier. i do like the the gold hardware
"they don't have any weaknesses" not true...you have to ditch the strings to make almost any change to the electronics aside from the jack and pickup height...that and (for guys like me) the volume knob prevents any sort of palm muting on the high e string there are a few other little issues here and there but nothing worth noting lest I sound like a whiny little cunt...they're still my second favorite guitar of all time next to the custom 24
Good sounds from good guitars in good players hands and hearts belong, probablly in good song. (I just would treat a nice Strat like a lady, with respect, even if they 'are built to last,' I cannot relate to 'draggin' them across the floor of the stage by the whammy bar!' One should, give them a name, like Lucille or something, and be a gentleman, and make love with her, kiss and caress her gently to make her sing what you want to sing; not beat her over the head ot make her sob and cry in fear and dread like a gorilla from Hell, imho If you respect and care for your guitar, like a country gentlemen, think Chet, cares for his girlfriend to dance and court with, then she will treat you special and give you joy back for life, instead of expensive, mulitiple bills to pay up or else, tothe guitar hospital clinic to pay to repair her bruises.) She will speak and sing in a consitent smooth voice, not nag back atonally,...am I kiddin'? Or is there some practical wisdom in my words? ..sorry, 'bout the rant, I just get squeamish hearing about a nice guitar being in the hands of brutish characters on stage, who play 'guitar,' though, some like The WHO did it quite well... I guess: TH-cam Google Search: The Ox, lol. Some people thought that was insane, and, it was as publicity stunt more than sonic statement, perhaps He might had mixed feelings and would not do that with his favorite guitar!?)
i have a les paul studio and it's a piece of shit. the pickups sound the same as each other, the tone knobs did practically nothing on top of it, and the volume knobs barely do anything from 10-2, and then from 2-1 go from loud to nothing. i have a squier strat from china and the pickups all sound different from each other, the tone knobs actually do something, and it sound awesome and plays in tune well.
***** les paul sucks! haven´t tremolo bar and if you wanna have a floyd must buy les paul axcess model stolen from neal schon (journey) stolen his floyd rose and make a "axcess" is the only tremolo bar in a les paul and in a strat easily you can buy a china strat (squier or fender) and you have a bar tremolo and very cool neck sound and easily you can replace the standard tremolo for a floyd rose in a les paul have to take to a luthier and make put a drill and others tools , but is too heavy 11 pounds or 9 pounds and a fender stratocaster 6 or 7 pounds including the bar tremolo ,the les paul is for a guys that play without trem and have the force for play , but honestly i don´t like the lp guitars ,the 7 or 8 and 9 strings guitars have the shape and the style of strat then which i think the most access guitar $ of the world is Fender Stratocaster ,i never see a Ibanez or Prs of 7 and 8 strings with a shape of lp only for 6 strings , well i see 1 guitar but is a epiphone with 7 strings but looks awful and i see that guitar looks like (i need other strings or less)sorry for the stratocaster hater but is my feeling the most example jeff beck play les paul a lot of time and sometimes playing stratocaster for some 70´s in some shows , but this man (genius guitar player) him and ritchie blackmore are very similar both gear white and yellow strat and slide (both from england) and hendrix was the first can make a cry this guitar with dive bombs and many other guitar players ,fender really make history.
I love my 1960 and 1962 stratocaster's. I cannot imagine life without them.
Tone at 1:19 is spectacular
I traded my American Standard HSS for the Commemorative 60th, and I'm beyond in love
Just bought me a 60th! Fender rules best instruments made period! simply amazing

Lol you never have enough strats man
Does it sound that much different?

I just got the American Vintage 60th Anniversary model. I like what's true to the original. My favorite strat, and overall favorite guitar.
Treated myself to a scratch and dent AV 1954 for my birthday...I love it! Especially at $800 off the list price. A couple of chips in the laquer mean nothing to me... exceptional tone, incredibly light, and it just feels incredible!
Just got my first strat over the weekend haven't put it down only too sleep
"If you look really closely at it..." *CONSTANTLY MOVES IT AROUND*
Happy 60th Birthday Fender.... I love those Strats! and I'm doin the sounds of Hendrix and Clapton.... awesome machine man! ;)
Is squier also build to last?
Squier has been building some pretty good guitars lately.
they can be but you have really careful with them fender strats are much tougher.
Happy 60th anniversary!
helpful video, i saw a few of these for sale at a trade show and now i know the differences between them... thanks fender!
I love the guitar,I love fender

Played an Ultra strat ?

Very vibrant guitar that replaced my 59' reissue as my favorite Strat.
I have a 2014 60th anniversary sunburst strat and I have no idea what it’s worth. There are about 5 different versions of this same model so I’m very confused.
Mine is the one from 3:40
send it to me so i can inspect it and tell you what it's worth. i promise i'll give it back.
Can anyone please identify any songs he plays. The intro or 1:19 please. Thanks!
Charlie F I'm looking for the intro too. Anyone know this?
Only problem is it's kinda difficult making triads higher up the neck, about the 19th fret +
I can't decide between this one or the Fender American Standard Strat olympic white :( Which one should I get?
would this be good for playing post-hardcore stuff?
Is the ingot compulsory
What's the song he's playing at 1:19?
still the Best
What is the amp we are hearing in the video?
I'm confused. My 2006 American Standard Strat in Olympic white with a one piece solid maple neck/fingerboard has a 60th anniversary medallion in the headstock. What were they celebrating in 2006? Also it has solid steel saddles and silver hardware. Is it a 60th Anniversary Strat too or what it is?
You have the internet look it up goofball
thanks@@PhilDietz
Song at beginning?
sorry, i know this is not about the strat' but could you release again the 1969 competition fender mustang, please?
I just managed to trade a squire affinity strat for a fender 60th anniversary telecaster
How...
... what...
What is the name of the color of the last yellowed guitar? Thanks
Desert Sand, I think....
Vomit yellow
I want one of those 60th AVs soooooooo bad! That's it. The source!
What amp do i hear ?
It is no exaggeration to say that this is my favorite fender. Especially this color matching, but I can't buy this color matching guitar in China。 cry~
What chords are he using in the intro? I MUST LEARN
La guitare de mes reves
I have a MIM 50s reissue Fender Strat, I love to death. The only thing is that I play all kinds of rock but I'm a hard rock/metal guy at heart and Strats really aren't designed for heavy metal unless you change the pickups to SD Hotrails (like Iron Maiden for example). I'm between wanting to upgrade the pickups for more punchy growl but I don't really want to lose the Strat sound either. I've been thinking if I buy another Strat and keep it stock and change out the pickups on the one I have so I can have one metal Strat and the other one for blues/rock :p
Fender rules!
Yea, I'm gonna do that
DAVID GILMOUR
Cool.
It's really nice, but I'm a bit over gold hardware because it just tarnishes with age. I guess you could just call it character.
I like it
Did anyone notice the three-ton sunburst on the 1954 reissue, tell me you saw it, that is no two-tone, there is definitely a hint of red.
Why nobody talks about JEFF BECK as a great user of Stratocaster!
Because Jeff Beck is an asshole
@@marchel9322 lmaoooooooo
Im watching this, sitting here wit my squire strat.........
Cool! Me too.
NICE!!!!! This guitar in this vid is only a dream.....for nowwww!
ill join this club.. that started a month ago...

I feel bad for you guys since I've purchased 2 of these so far.
what a beauty strat very very nice with gold hardware fuckin amzing they r d best
I own the commemorative in mint, anyone want to buy it?
so I get it it's the 1954 model, but where does the gold hardware and mother of pearl tuners come in....
That's the American Standard model. Probably just to make it look fancy. I don't like the look of gold/mother of pearl tuning gears myself. I would be replacing those tuning gears on the American Standard model. I have the American Vintage model. Great guitar!!! I love what's more true to the original.
How can they have 2 60th anniversary strats? I bought one around 2006. Guess that one won't have the value this one has
One is the 60th anniversary of the company and these were 60th anniversary of the Strat. Every guitar and bass in 2006 was a 60th Anniversary model.
Niiice!
To be actual serious I don't really here a difference between a squir and a fender I got a bullet strat and a commertive 60th anniversary and I'm going to sell it because I can't really here a difference feel or vibe

why does my 2006 MIM Strat say 60th anniversary......thats not 60 years...???
60 years of fender

haven´t tremolo bar and if you wanna have a floyd must buy les paul axcess model stolen from neal schon (journey) stolen his floyd rose and make a "axcess" is the only tremolo bar in a les paul and in a strat easily you can buy a china strat (squier or fender) and you have a bar tremolo and very cool neck sound and easily you can replace the standard tremolo for a floyd rose in a les paul have to take to a luthier and make put a drill and others tools , but is too heavy 11 pounds or 9 pounds and a fender stratocaster 6 or 7 pounds including the bar tremolo ,the les paul is for a guys that play without trem and have the force for play , but honestly i don´t like the lp guitars ,the 7 or 8 and 9 strings guitars have the shape and the style of strat then which i think the most access guitar $ of the world is Fender Stratocaster ,i never see a Ibanez or Prs of 7 and 8 strings with a shape of lp only for 6 strings , well i see 1 guitar but is a epiphone with 7 strings but looks awful and i see that guitar looks like (i need other strings or less)sorry for the stratocaster hater but is my feeling the most example jeff beck play les paul a lot of time and sometimes playing stratocaster for some 70´s in some shows , but this man (genius guitar player) him and ritchie blackmore are very similar both gear white and yellow strat and slide (both from england) and hendrix was the first can make a cry this guitar with dive bombs and many other guitar players ,fender really make history.
