    Fantastic video, Danny! Loads of suggestions and inspiring examples. At the moment, I'm finding lettering hard due to constant pain. Maybe I'll try with brush pens which require a bit less "pressure" and grip. Looking forward to playing with words.

    Wow! ‘If you make a mistake, cross it out’ is an awesome suggestion. When you said that, I sudden,y realized that has been a huge stumbling block for me when I want to add words to a drawing, or worse, when I want to make a nice card for someone, and I inevitably screw up a letter at the very end, and then procrastinate because I feel I have to do another card to fix it, then I make another mistake, etc…. which causes me to not send as many cards as I’d like…I am going to start owning the crossouts 😊 So cool how you framed it, to think of crossouts actually capturing the mind changing…I’m definitely going to start owning the crossouts now:) And your sketchbooks are absolutely captivating btw:)

    I have a compulsion to record life experiences in text, and like most people (?) have always taken photos. Technology has enabled this process... I feel it is enriching in the moment and a vital aid to staving off amnesia...
    Each page of YOUR beautiful obsession shows me in an instant how much depth of engagement you must be having in your life experiences... The cultivation of this appreciation of the moment is my no1 takeaway from your art.
    Without being cheesy, your creative output astonishes me, not only the art itself but these videos with flawless lighting, scripting, presentation...

    Hi Danny.. I saw in your journal that you’re having a little struggle with getting your gardenias to bloom .. try Charlie Carp or fish emulsion .. (not seaweed but fish- now there’s another pic) It works a treat on them. I put some on our potted G.Floridas and they really greened up well and put buds on .. within a week !! (During spring and summer) Hope that helps .. cheers, Lisa.

    I enjoy listening to these videos about keeping a sketch book with you. But there's that issue where you may want to just draw on one side of the sketch book and not on the back of each sheet/page. Most artists use just one side and never draw on the back, out of fear of messing up the previous drawing(s) on the front.I should know. I've done it for years. Until one day, I decided to take a/the risk and drew on the back of a page. It wasn't too much of a bother,(seeing as how I used a ballpointpen to sketch with, and the sketches were small)until I tried using colored pencils and regular pencils. Those will smear if you drew directly on the back. So, I tried a new remedy...using post-it notes, or photo paper,or scraps of paper; draw on those, and tape them inside on the reverse side of each page; when the drawing on the front was clean cut. Although, I feel like that's wasting the use of the actual back of the page if it wasn't drawn on directly. How do you avoid the fear of "damaging" the page, when you draw on the back? Is there a specific paper that can handle being drawn on the back?

    • @user-sp1vx6vz9z
      @user-sp1vx6vz9z 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You could collage some additional (decorative) paper onto the backs of your pages to provide an additional layer, thus preventing bleed through. Just make sure that your collage medium is something that will take additional marks in the way that you want it to.
      Or, you could possibly spread in a thin layer of watercolor ground and paint/draw on that. (Not sure if it would flake off over time with the movement of the pages, though.)

    Spelling errors! LOL
    I did try lettering from a calligraphy book I bought. It was harder than I thought. I couldn’t keep the size consistent or keeping alphabets in line. Your lettering and font look fantastic! I may give it another try without expecting perfection. I prefer to write down some poems I like because I often find my thought pedestrian.

    Hi Danny! I was wondering -- is your lettering in the sketchbooks the same as how you write when you're taking notes or in your day to day work? In other words, do you have a type of lettering that you do for "artsy" purposes vis a vis the lettering you do day to day when you're writing regular stuff?

    • @SketchBookSkool
      @SketchBookSkool  ปีที่แล้ว

      In my sketchbook, I take my time and it comes out differently. If Im making a grocery list, my handwriting is so illegible I can barely make it out. But these days, i tend to type everything. Maybe that's part of the issue.
