My JRT Peanut turned 18 this last April. My sister had her mother and brother. This dog has outlived them both! She has been my best friend and companion for almost half of my life. As a pup, she was a hadful, but she went and still does go everywhere with me. Her back legs have given up, but she is still healthy otherwise (vet says she is an "Energizer Bunny"). I started watching this video and she perked right up at the sight of other JRT pups! If you are on the fence about this breed...Know that they will be a lot of work as puppies , but if trained propperly, they will be the best friend that you ever had!
I had no idea of this Jack Russell breed until one puppy showed up in our backyard during the pandemic lock down. She was so stubborn and insisted so much to stay that finally we decided to let her stay with us. This is how I learned about the existence of this breed. We are experienced dog owners, but she's definitely not for inexperienced owners. She's so stubborn. We love her though 😃 And she loves us immensely. Our dog has long legs though. I just read it's a Parson Russell 😃 I'm Always Learning new things
I have a PRT mixed with Chinese crested. He has hair though lol he is wild! He is 4 months old he walks good on a leash and is crate trained. He will use the pee pad if need to go before we go out. He is so darn cute but VERY stubborn and constantly chewing on everything including me when I’m petting him. He jumps on everyone . I know he is still a baby but goodness this chewing has to end at some point. Please tell me it does 😟
Just lost our JR after 17 years. she was the most loyal, funny, intelligent and strong-willed dog. We miss her badly and will eventually get another. Training and keeping them occupied is essential for a happy life for both you and your doggo.
@@rantsandfaves Thank you. We still miss our Spot but now have another addition in Chilli. She's 10 months old now and we are so lucky to have had two beautiful JR's in our lives. Both very diffeent personalities.
I adopted a rescue Jack Russel cross Papillon and now he's growing in confidence (he was pretty badly mistreated as a puppy so was terrified of everything) his inner terrier is coming out and this video has been really helpful for understanding him. Thanks.
I have a miniature Jack Russell which they chopped her tale, I got Maya at 16 weeks old her teeth we so tiney as she was, I knew nothing ab be a dog owner, I felt she needed caring from where she came from Maya was very stubborn in her first 2 yrs she is potty crate trained wich is only used for that.. She has full run of the home sleeps with me n even know my words "move over", which she gets up n moves a bit, lol.. I'm happy to have her she never left my side during my Cancer, we had to bring her food n water n sm create upstairs that's how loyal she is.. I know you treat your dog with lots of love like a toddler they listen n learn the behavior I never experienced her being mischievous just dont drop a klenex or paper towel she loves to sherd.. that... paw loves for all 💙🐾💙
Are you sure the tail was docked? Theres 34 known breeds of dog which naturally may be born w/out tails. Jack(Pasrons)Russell Terriers are one. Within the same litter, some can be born with or without tails. Actually, rarely do responsible breeders dock tails. I wasnt aware of this until I researched quite a bit since the litter my girl was born into had one wire haired parent & one smooth haired- all pups are smooth or broken coats, and 3 have tails, 2 did not. In either event, it sounds as though you and Maya love one another and you have a devoted companion in her. Maybe, don’t give up on training, if thats your desired end result. Dogs can learn at any age, with consistant repitition of instructions. Gracie-san sends Maya a play bow🐾💞.
As the owner of four Jacks over a long period of time, I agree with the contents of this video. Given their high intelligence, patience, practice, and polite training is the way to go.
lol, I had a Jack Russell. A calm NO doesn’t work. That’s funny. They are way too smart for that crap. A loud NO works better after a few taps on them. Not hard or when their young but as they get older. Trust me, they don’t respond to a calm anything. They’re monsters! And a lot of work. But they are the best dogs ever!
I was just given a 6 year old jack Russell. He loves to run away when I take him off the leash. How can I teach him to stay near me and not run away that far and in the street?
A shock collar but one with beeping and vibration. Use the shock only if he is doing something that could endanger himself or other dogs. Mine responds to the vibration and beep he will stop what he is doing and later go back and do the same thing. I beep him and tell him No. hopefully he catches on soon
The best breed out there, sooo smart, 😆 … I absolutely adore my Baxter 🐾🐾❤️🐾he’s so intelligent, so human… Once a jack… always a jack… you will never go back. Thank you for the video…. 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Mine is 5 years old and I swear he’s the dog version of me, stubborn, adhd as fuck but he’s a good boy except when he tries fighting every dog on a walk
I have two rescue JRTs, both girls. Mango is 8 and I got her when she was about ten months and had been badly treated. She was a younger companion to Digger who was about 11 when Mango arrived, Digs died at 16 having been with us since he was 6 weeks due to his mum having mastitis and not being able to feed her pups. We just rescued Pebble (also female) at 8 weeks old. She was the only surviving pup of a litter of 5 (mum rejected them all), and she is just divine; so smart and loving and a great little sister to Mango who has embraced the new situation, and found a new youthful energy. JRTs are the best, Pebble is my fourth (Tosca being my first after only having big dogs before).
"Zap" my Jack is 15 years old and he is still a handful !! In a good way. I don't know how I will handle it when it's time for him to go. I just enjoy everyday I have with him. If God has a personal dog, I am sure it's a Jack Russell🙏😁
My JRT is now eight and Im dreading that day. Like you I’m enjoying every day with him so are my kids. He knows when they’re sick and he doesn’t leave their side.
My Jack Russell is a girl. She amazes me how smart she is but also stubborn! Lol! She is eleven months of age. I would not trade her for anything! She loves me and I love her! God was so good to put us together!🙏♥️♥️😇
My jack chi is the sweetest dog. Looks like my cojack I had to put down last week. 4 days later I was at the humane society. He's one yr old and I can see someone has hit him before. I just ordered a clicker and door knob bell. Thank you for the information!! He's confused about potty not being at the food water location. Probably from the kennel. He's very attached to me but wouldn't have anything to do with me till he saw my kitten trust me.
I had 6 dogs in my life and rn I own 2. When they do something wrong, I hit them and say no so they make the connection between "no" and hitting, and there is no better way to stop a dog's bad behavior than doing so. I must say that most of the hitting occurs during early stages when they would chew on something they shouldn't like a cable or something like that. The hitting stops because they learn quickly. Now there is no need to hit them because they behave good, but also because now, when i say "no" they know hitting may occur so they know its bad when I say no. However, my wife is like you, gentle "no" with no repercussions, and there she is still having to correct her Tecker after 5 years for things the dog's been doing since we got him, never learned. On the other hand, my dogs (pitbull and Jack Russel) they are both EXTREMELY well behaved and obedient. I am not encouraging hitting, but they are animals, that's how they learn, you have to be rough with them, but to a limit. and do not think they fear me, the opposite, they love me and cry when i come back from traveling after being away for a few weeks.
I have 2 jack jack Russell's they are borh rescue's also they are father and son . The dads name is Jack and the son is Jack junior we call him JJ. We can not house train them but they will use a pad. Tg. I would love any help in house taining them. I love my dogs thank you.
We had buddy for 16 years 25 of them were wonderful, 1st year not so much but with dillegent training and patience he became BDE best dog ever ! RIP my dearest friend miss you beyond words
Training is the same as when they are a puppy, my 14 year old was still learning tricks until she passed away from a congenital heart defect. Be firm but not cruel. They will love you for it.
Jack Russell is a lovely and very intelligent dog full of antics of their own. However they need lots of attention and love to connect with them .No doubt they also need good training, like most other dogs. We have a Jack Russell as a much loved member in our family. Whatever dog you have, if you look after it as a valued member of the family, you will have very rewarding experiences
I've seen so many ass 35-year veteran dog groomer I've had dogs for 56 years ipg🎉 certified Master? groomer and this video was spot-on because of their energy and wit they are one of the very most misunderstood and underestimated breeds there is❤❤❤❤
We just got a Jack Russell shitzu puppy. He’s now about 3 mths now. He’s definitely full of energy and needing help on the potty training. And as many toys as we buy him he still wants to bite the edge of the furniture, and tearing his bed up so we were told to crate train him. But don’t want to keep him in a cage all day. Any suggestions would be gratefully apprecited
yes they r stubborn lol. mine is so darn smart. figures stuff out in min sometimes lol. but he listens wen he wants lol. I'm still working with him. I got him when he was 3. with some bad habits. but he is so smart I already broke some of his bad habits and it hasn't been a hole month since I got him
I just a JR mix about a month ago and she literally has been a pain 😒 but she’s been getting better the only problem being potty training and chewing on rugs 😂 the only problem I have now that idk what to do about is that she’s scared of anyone that comes up to pet her and especially if they are males.
I have one female jack russel named Lexi, supersmart, got here when she was 9 weeks and was so easy to train, thanks to some youtube channels for jr owners, she can be high energetic but also supercalm when i need it or want to. she comes with me to the tennis club to go after the ball, but when i play tennis myself she is on the leash watching super calm without barking, bet i can do already offleash, anyways me and Lexi having great times together 😊, is my first dog ever, by the way, guess im lucky with her
My Jack, Jack, is the best boy ever. He's 15 and is just starting to slow down. My best training move was the day I got sooo mad I kicked him out! Yup, shut him outside for 1.5 seconds before I was like WTF did I just do! I opened the door and instead of having run off, he was standing facing the door with his head down. I was like, if you want to come in, you're going to live by my rules. He's been my baby ever since. He is a major hunter, I've seen him jump into the air and kill a bird, then promptly toss said bird. It was about the kill for him. He loves hunting rabbits as well. I recently saw they have Jack races, if only I knew 5 years ago. Lol...
all of that was clever I've got a 2 year old Jack Russell Terrier I love her my dad would like to train her to learn to be home alone for a hour or so as there's 1 place where I live to go to eat that doesn't allow dogs not even just outside and some other stuff.
My CJR is hard to train.I want to take her for a walk but all she wants to do is sit on the porch and she's scared of everything she's around except me she fusses at me all the then she goes in her room and comes back out to fuss at me.YES I spoil her and I love but she needs training classes she's such a DIVA.🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶
Our killed some of our chicken. : D he had such a big smile in his face while he smashed there nack. Obviously we tried to stop him. But sometimes he went crazy. Now he is already 17 and walks in small cycles.
My JR is nasty 😂😂😂 she likes to chew the butt part of everyone’s underwear in my house. No draws are safe in this house even if they are out in baskets.
My JR puppy loves to roll in / eat cat or fox poo when she's out in the garden. She bites a lot but I think this is because she still has her baby teeth. How can I solve those two problems? Any ideas?
Most dogs like to roll around in 💩. My JRT hates having a bath so out of stubbornness after his bath he specifically goes out to try find some 💩 to roll around in it just to get us back for giving him a bath 😂 Get dry shampoo and a comb. As for the biting on furniture he must be still teething. Our JRT destroyed our skirting boards from biting. Get him a teething toy and give out to him when he\she bites the furniture. Just say ‘No’ in an angry tone but don’t shout. Dogs have great sense’s especially JRT, so he will know you’re angry at him.
When we bought our 3 year old jack Russel ziggy, the owner sed he was a pure breed, I don’t think this is the case he has pointy ears and a curled tail but his is very much like a JR love him to bits but he BARKS a lot 😂 can you get a dog testing kit to see if your dog is cross?
My JRT tries to start fights with larger dogs. Bark is bigger than his bite and he suffers from small dog syndrome for sure lol. Funny thing is he’s petrified of mice 😂
I have one but it’s mixed with a corgi. She’s very stubborn and likes to intentionally irritate you if she’s mad at you. She can get aggressive but only if you mess with her. She is 8 months old
I don't think this guy knows what he is talking about. You don't convince your dog to avoid behaviour by giving it a hug and saying "Please do that more."
i live i india im indian i had adopted a JRT thinking it was a stray dog and now then I understood her height was like 2x smaller than a 8 months GSD and yet shes 1.5 yrs old now I understood shes a JRT she was found abandoned in a train and my moms colleague found her then we adopted her she was only 2 months old now in September 5th its her 2nd brithday
You should walk outside with your dog, and when they pee reward them with a clicker and treat, or one or the other so then they know that its good :) you should also harness train them, I didn't and rlly regret it
My 6mnth j/russel nips /bites our hands/arms drawing blood I've just cght him eating white foam from under my long curtains under the lining he's done this a few times /he will tear a cushion & eat foam I worried sick that this will kill him the foam x
My Jack Russel is 14 weeks old but I have no idea what I'm doing. I've tried what I've seen on dog training apps but he just sits there and stares at me
My Female was rescued when I received her. Our stubby rat terrier Rimme got her, pregnant. She was a excellent mom very protective. Her mate was not allowed to go near any of the pups until they were weened. She, years later growls at her husband if tries to get close to her
They have run off rottweilers, shepherds, and pit bull strays on our property. Also raccoons she will jump so high to attack them until they run away , fearless are they
They can be demanding but are great fun, lively, stubborn,We take ours for 2 x 2 hours walks a day and he is still not tired. Bear in mind they are prey driven. Check facebook for owners and read the comments, 99% love their JRs to bits and wouldn't be without them.
I had one for first time owner and it was not the best experience since he was only 2 months old, he bit, and was very territorial but he was very sweet most of the time. We ended up giving him away after 1 year since we did not have enough time to care for him though 😢
Oh boy what have I gotten myself into, none of my other pets are impressed at all, she is friendly but so full on they try so hard to play with her and she just ends up hurting them , but they keep trying so they must see something in her they like
jack Russel are not for everyone if your a first time dog owner don.t get a jack Russell if you do train it to training schools. other wise it will train you its way. The are a very smart dog you can train them to do anything
I was given a dog by my friend on my birthday but I never thought it would be a jack Russell so now im stuck with an overhyper puppy and full of bite and claw marks 😭
You dont train them, let them be a dog. They are smart enough to know, when they are going too far. Justguide them. If you push too much, theywill rebel.
Mine was the same, he's 10 months now and he's gotten better but how I done it was with a clicker and often got new toys so he expects it when, and only when he's good, maybe try often walks of not already, he still also nips and bites 😭 to stop that I just stand up and walk away he eventually gets it but still trying 😔 sorry if this isn't much help 🧒
I miss my Riley. He was 18 years old when he passes in November of this year. The BEST dog ever!
@Kthedog_1 we had a good run. I left his bed where it is, with treats.

My JRT hates having a bath so out of stubbornness after his bath he specifically goes out to try find some 💩 to roll around in it just to get us back for giving him a bath 😂
Get dry shampoo and a comb.
Yes you can get test kits but we had a JRT with papers that had a suuuuuuper curled tailed, so I wouldn't be too concerned
Sounds like it could be the JR'S close relative the Rat Terrier.
My dog didn’t get much socialization but he avoids big dogs like the flu
My JRT tries to start fights with larger dogs. Bark is bigger than his bite and he suffers from small dog syndrome for sure lol. Funny thing is he’s petrified of mice 😂
I have one but it’s mixed with a corgi. She’s very stubborn and likes to intentionally irritate you if she’s mad at you. She can get aggressive but only if you mess with her. She is 8 months old
I've had a number of jack russel terriers, they are by far my top favourite dog, they are clever and protective, but temperamental and fiesty,
I'm baby sitting a jack Russell they are have character
great dog breed
Mine's almost 4yo and I'm only starting now cause i wasn't really interested in anything for the past 4 years
Let's hope i can still train her😭
I don't think this guy knows what he is talking about. You don't convince your dog to avoid behaviour by giving it a hug and saying "Please do that more."
Absolutely NO verbal or physical abuse to any Animal does not work and you break their hearts with fear of you. 💖🐶🐕🐾🇦🇺
Lots of helpful tips and tricks concerning training . . . but not how.you.actually.train.the.dog !
My toro is 15 so smart so stubborn
Do you need a big yard for this dog?
i live i india im indian i had adopted a JRT thinking it was a stray dog and now then I understood her height was like 2x smaller than a 8 months GSD and yet shes 1.5 yrs old now I understood shes a JRT she was found abandoned in a train and my moms colleague found her then we adopted her she was only 2 months old now in September 5th its her 2nd brithday
and im first time owner and my dog she is very loyal and scared from strangers but always loves me
I might be getting a 6 month Jack Russell, how do I start potty training?
Should be potty trained by 6 months
You should walk outside with your dog, and when they pee reward them with a clicker and treat, or one or the other so then they know that its good :) you should also harness train them, I didn't and rlly regret it
My Jack Russell is 7months Huney she is wetting and having accident every time I get up in morning and have napping down. Ilove her.
Also raccoons she will jump so high to attack them until they run away , fearless are they
Recommended not for new dog owners, too late already bought him😭, wouldn’t change a thing tho !
Can I take him if I am first owner??
They can be demanding but are great fun, lively, stubborn,We take ours for 2 x 2 hours walks a day and he is still not tired. Bear in mind they are prey driven. Check facebook for owners and read the comments, 99% love their JRs to bits and wouldn't be without them.
I had one for first time owner and it was not the best experience since he was only 2 months old, he bit, and was very territorial but he was very sweet most of the time. We ended up giving him away after 1 year since we did not have enough time to care for him though 😢
Him: when he when he. Me staring at my female jack Russel like🧐
😃
❤😂
Oh boy what have I gotten myself into, none of my other pets are impressed at all, she is friendly but so full on they try so hard to play with her and she just ends up hurting them , but they keep trying so they must see something in her they like
jack Russel are not for everyone if your a first time dog owner don.t get a jack Russell if you do train it to training schools. other wise it will train you its way. The are a very smart dog you can train them to do anything
I was given a dog by my friend on my birthday but I never thought it would be a jack Russell so now im stuck with an overhyper puppy and full of bite and claw marks 😭
Mine gets seperation anxiety

My MarQuee
Puppy spot is way to over priced
@dog world want dogs do u have
You dont train them, let them be a dog. They are smart enough to know, when they are going too far. Justguide them. If you push too much, theywill rebel.
Or donally jacks
my puppy is 7 months old and ive tried to train her & its hard💀 literally she’s not listening to me lmao
@@aliehs.l this is really helpful, thank you 😁
@@melanijao np :D
You should never use pain to train any dog. If you do you shouldn’t have a dog. Ever!

If you have any other pets don't get this breed .
I rescued a jr and already have a cat, he has been fine
Rhemm
i dont think mines smart he comes in my room and just pees everywhere
Mine too, I take her outside and then she comes in a pees on the floor. Arg
Currently same situation mine. She’ll go outside but stills goes in the house.
Get pee pads. I live on a third floor flat. I had to get the training pee pads. If he pees somewhere else take him and put him/her on the pad.
Mine bad his nane jr
You don’t train a Jack, they train you
For mind is quite self center 😞
