Wallis did not want to marry him. He was obsessed with her and essentially forced her to marry him. There is a cache of letters, written by Wallis, to her ex-husband stating her regrets for ever getting involved with him.

The only problem with that, is she let every man think he was her real love. She declared the ONE REAL love of her life was Herman Rogers. Told his new wife.
She told Ernest Simpson she really only loved him forever.
I think there is another man who also also was supposed to her real great love.
All these men were supposed to be the real great love.
I think she wanted all the men in her life to feel they were the one, so she could ask them for favours, money, DISCRETION.
I think she liked to have all those men on silken spider threads, all convinced it was them she dreamed of - it's immensely flattering, given she caused a throne to tumble - being regretful she was trapped by Edward, whilst secretly thinking of them, is really just immense flattery.
But how could she not dream of almost anyone else? Edward was a man child. Utterly lacking in any conversation of interest. Unable to read a book he had so little ability to concentrate. He basically walked about with his mouth hanging open, metaphorically. It must have driven her nuts - but then she was so cruel to him at the end - but then her last years were just so horrific, just a true nightmare.
Both were shallow. Clothes, jewels, freebies - holidays, visits, etc.
And him making all those poisonous anti Jewish remarks.
The misery of being trapped in a house with that. She really paid.

Wallis was a beautiful dresser. I think after his abdication their life was one of idleness and exile. They made it look glamorous for a while, but in the end it was just lonely.

I don't understand how the first breakaway from the Catholic Church was the fact that the British King Henry VIII who divorced his wife to marry Anne Boleyn, in protest, hence, the Protestant reformation and the establishment of the Anglican church. So how did the Anglican church re-adopt the rule regarding how it was unacceptable to marry a divorced person once again?

Because Henry VIII was never “divorced.” His marriage to Catherine of Aragon was annulled and his marriage to Anne of Cleves was also annulled.

    • @SaaharaGlaude
      @SaaharaGlaude 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@JGJGAGSGNot technically. The "Catholic Church" didn't NOTHING as they weren't involved. As for annullment? That's what he called it; when in truth it didn't differ from divorce. Edward VIII could easily have flipped the script & dubbed Wallis' divorces "annulments" after becoming King - as did 'ole Henry! Henry did what he could get away with!

Queen Elizabeth would have eventually been Queen. Her father, George VI would not have been George VI. He would have remained Prince Albert -- BUT!!! ultimately, Elizabeth would have been Queen - Charles, Prince of Wales & Prince William, heir to the throne. Had Edward VIII stayed King - when he died in 1972, Elizabeth would have become Queen. Edward & Wallis had no children & probably never would had. Once Edward died? The Queendom would have antimatically passed on to Elizabeth!
This stupid, uneducated "fake" accounting that none of the Royals who are now Royals wouldn't have been Royals in the positions they are now had Edward remained King is poppycock!!

Yes! How come Charles got a pass to marry a mistress yet other royals get held to such strict rules? I understand with princess Diana no longer living it wasn’t the exact same but still. The way they act about “honor” it’s so crazy that he was permitted to marry her.

We would have had King Charles either way. Prince Edward and Wallis Simpson were not able to have children.
So, the royal lineage would have gone from Edward to Queen Elizabeth as a middle aged woman, when Edward died at 78, instead of, as it did proceed, through the Queen's father, King George, when he died at about 58?

In 1936 H.L. Mencken called the Abdication "The biggest news story since the Resurrection."
With the death of Queen Elizabeth II the last of the primary dramatis personae of the Abdication has left the world stage. As time has passed, and this video with the comments of Hugo Vickers attests, it can be seen that the story 1936 rests not with any machinations of Wallis Warfield but rather with the weakness of character of Edward, Duke of Windsor.

Not entirely, in Wallis's letters to her husband Ernest she was deeply unhappy and lamented her decision to marry Edward, she still loved Ernest but felt she had no choice but to follow through with the marriage. She found Edward insecure and needy, she thought he was a bit of a bore. Ernest in return said in regret she had made her bed. This is the saddest part to me, if you read her letters you can't help feel the lament and pain of committing to a choice she felt she had to make. Edward was the one deeply in love with Wallis but she regretted it for the rest of her life. They kinda forgot to include that part..

Now, if Charles WASN’T remarried.. and was coronated… I wonder if the church would’ve ‘allowed’ Charles to remarry a divorced woman AFTERwards?
