    "A Little Life" is definately not a hot girl summer book. People just want to advertise that they read it. Everyone with 5 brainscells left would'nt recommend that book to anyone when they don't know the mental state of the other person.

    This is such a fun idea! And now those tweets and the teasers in other videos make sense as well :p
    I find it funny that miscommunication is such a hated trope, because I love it. Granted, it has to be done in a believable way, and not just chucked in at 2/3 of the way for some added drama. I like the miscommunication where the characters don’t know how much they mean to each other, because they’re not talking about their feelings, which is… an incredibly realistic thing to do. I’ll probably like Normal People, add that to the tbr. (It also motivates me to be very open in communicating my feelings, because I like it in books, but I don’t need that drama in my own life :D)

    The Idiot by Elif Batuman was shown in one of the tiktoks and it's such a fun book! It made me laugh out loud so often because of how much I saw myself in the academic pretentiousness. “my year of rest and relaxation” sounds like a book that i could enjoy, because i love reading books about morally grey or just bad people. personally i don’t like reading about “good people”, as weird as that sounds. the typical goody-two-shoes type of characters bore me. no matter how well written they might be, i can never truly enjoy these types of books. especially the types of characters that would give up everything for the “greater good” or would sacrifice even themselves, doing things because “fate” or whatever. it’s one of the reasons that i kinda hate the chosen one trope (i have a love hate relationship with it, it’s a bit of a guilty pleasure). i don’t like the type of characters that find out that they have a “purpose” and just immediately accept it and do anything to achieve it. i also truly hate the “damsel in distress”, naive, sheltered, “girl next door” characters. i don’t just find them boring, but extremely annoying and cliche.

    • @18Aleziita
      @18Aleziita 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I could have accepted that the character wasn't good, but what I didn't like, and this is a spoiler, was the last chapter. The author uses 9/11 to tell that her girlfriend died there and was the girl who is jumping. The author disrespect, from what I see, the people who really suffer.

    I think the reason most of the books in the hot girl summer lists are sad or essays or nonfiction is bc unfortunately theres this conception that people who read books like that are smarter than people who read ex: romance or fantasy and being smart is hot lmao. very annoying mentality ALAS...... anyway I got such a surprise when I read normal people because I try to stay away from sad books because I Feel Too Much and Get Overwhelmed Very Easily but that book touched me in such a unique way I accepted the melancholy with open arms :,) cant wait to read the rest of the books!! also I kinda NEED to know where u got the cardigan ur wearing around 12:00 ITS SO CUTEEEEEE
    love uuuuu have a great day

    How do you decide if you want to read a book in Dutch or English. In this case it was because it was available at the library. I have learned in an English course that people think differently when talking/thinking in a different language. And I do notice that when reading that some books I can’t read in dutch without being irked and the same for some books in English
