My first car was a 1968 coupe in red, drove it to grad in 1987. I truly loved that car and wish I could have kept it.

Wow Ray.. it truly is a beautiful car, and certainly one of my personal favourites too.
I also wanted to take a moment to personally thank for taking the time to watching my videos, leaving a comment and for subscribing to my channel I truly appreciate it.
My intention when creating these videos is to showcase not only the beautiful car but give the owner an opportunity to share their story, love and passion for their car. Thanks again Kevin.

These limited editions are always very interesting and so are their stories. The fact that this car is mostly original makes it even more valuable. I'm looking forward to seeing the Cougar. Thanks for the video!

@@ClassicCarChitChat Kevin-You're quite welcome. That car is a Holy Grail of mine...the color and styling are perfect.
I enjoy your style in showcasing these cars. Just casual, hanging out with no hype.

Great video, and a beautiful car, but there are a few little items that should probably be clarified. Please note that I'm not in any way beating up on this particular car, it's gorgeous and I'd love to have it, but these cars are quite a puzzle with all their oddities, and very few people understand all the weirdness. I just want to make sure incorrect information isn't spread.
    - The GT/CS was originally for the California market but it was eventually sold from Hawaii to Missouri. Its twin, the High Country Special, was sold only in Ford's dealer area (DSO) 51; mainly Colorado and Wyoming.
    - The 428CJ engine was also an option. Three California Specials have this engine, as well as another nine High Country Specials.
    - The wheels on this car are aftermarket versions of the Ford wheels. IMHO the aftermarket ones look much better than the originals.
    - Ford borrowed all the rear end body parts straight from the '68 Shelby convertible.
    - If a GT/CS is optioned with the GT package it will have a GT gas cap and the quad exhaust tips. It's only a GT if it has the GT package. GT/CS doesn't mean GT, and the quad tips were not a GT/CS only item.
    - The first California Specials were equipped with Marchal fog lights that were attached to custom brackets added to the '67 grille for support. The Marchal lights were then outlawed by the US government so Ford switched to the Lucas lights that are attached to the bottom trim pieces via tall pedestals. When the lights were swapped at the dealerships some mechanics installed the short chrome pedestals that were in the Lucas boxes instead of the special one-of-a-kind pedestals supplied by Ford. The pedestals on this car are correct.
    - As stated in the video Ford ran out of 289 blocks but they didn't run out of 289 pistons, rods, cranks, etc., so a 289 with a 302 block is still a 289. Many (possibly most) California Specials and High Country Specials have 302 blocks with 289 internals.
    - We do not know the exact number of cars sold because the earliest GT/CSs were coupes that were pulled from the assembly line and converted into California Specials without the proper documentation. Our current best guess is around 25 or so, meaning there were approximately 3,900 California Specials and exactly 251 High Country Specials for a total of roughly 4,150(ish).
    - The taillights were from the '65 T-Bird only. The '64 T-Bird lights have holes in them for the bird emblem.
    - The deck lid and end caps did not line up from the factory so the ones on this car have not been reworked by a body shop, and are 100% correct.
    - The fog light switch should be under the ashtray.
    - The white paint stripe listed on the Marti report is for a thin pinstripe that ran along the tops of the fenders and doors from the front of the car to the rear.
    - And a few side notes:
    1) The grilles, wide grille panels, and fog light pedestals were not painted black, but instead a dark slightly-brownish gray. NPD sells the correct paint. Cast Blast will work in a pinch.
    2) Delta Bay Mustang sells the brackets that one can use to turn a '67 grille into a GT/CS or HCS grille. I have the correct pedestals that I will send, free of charge, to anyone who is a member of Californiaspecial dot com. Not free of charge to anyone else.
    3) GT/CS and HCS unique parts are the stripes, closed side scoops, grille brackets, fog light pedestals, and the hood twist lock supports.
    4) There should be foam tape on the underside of the deck lids, where they meet the end caps. This was Ford's way of solving a leak problem.
Sorry for the long post. There are just so many idiosyncrasies to these cars that I could go on forever. Please contact me with any questions or comments.

Maybe when I am recovered we can do the Cougar? Thanks again, was great meeting you and working with you on this project. Bert.
