Watched this video a couple of times for an XR400R 99 model. I have oil coming from the breather after 2-3 mins on tickover? Gasket is aligned, starts and runs well 125 psi compression. Any ideas? Thank you for the video it really helps.
Great video. Gave me the confidence to go buy some cool tools and take mine apart. I’m about to pull the crank into the mag side. Do you see a problem with taking the ring off the pull tool so it will sit right on the inner race of the crank bearing. That way I’m not stressing the bearing at all. ?
I have a question. I just got another TRX400 and the crank is tight and smooth but it moves side to side a little. I tore it down in the frame and don't really want to split the cases. I can see the left side main bearing sliding side to side in the case and the right side bearing sliding on the crank. Do you think this would be alright? I've split a few cases before on various bikes and always ended up thinking it wasn't even necessary once I got the old compared to the new. What do you think? Thanks for the videos.
Side to side play is normal on the big end of the connecting rod, what u don't want is up and down play. If I'm understanding what your saying you have lateral movement in the main bearings? That I wouldn't run, best to replace them if u think it's gunna be a problem. Or atleast have piece of mind knowing it's all fresh.
@@garagemcmatt Well this video gave me a little peace of mind lol. By how easy the right side went on, you just tapped it til it was set. It would seem like the left bearing keeps the crank from moving side to side since it seems like that one has a tight fit in the case and on the crank. This is consistent with the service manual as far as the left being a tighter fit. I think I'll run it and listen for noises. I appreciate your time, Thank You.
I looked at the axial movement with the engine assembled, I just removed the piston head and cylinder and checked the installed balance shaft and when moving it I noticed that excess axial play
Those went on the first 426 that my friend bought off me I did not get much seat time with them on there so I don't have much of an opinion on them but the little ride I did take with them was not bad.
I have a 400ex trx 2003 aswell and it ran lean without me knowing and the piston is definitely stuck on the crank arm. Do you have any tips on how to get the piston off without cracking the case.
@@garagemcmatt yeah, it won’t float with the cylinder off. I’m not exactly sure what brand because I bought the bottom end off eBay. Honestly, I want to say it’s a OEM crank. But I was also thinking, maybe the wrist pin is Bent?
It depends there are a few different sets available. This engine is getting the set for the crank case and the set for everything else on the engine it's like $70 for all the bolts. Or you can get the set for the whole quad from spec bolt for $220 and it comes with everything except the shock bolts and the foot peg bolts

How did the shark hide do on the vapor blasting? Thanks
It ads a good level of protection for sure. Vapor blasted aluminum actually stays pretty clean on its own tho

Could have too much oil in it. Try a leak down and see if air pressure comes through

As long as it is supported it should work

Had a feeling you were from NJ, south if I had to guess, closer to Philly
Yup 30 mins from philly
Hey man how can you test and be 100% sure the crank is ok without removing it from the case?
If the top end is off. You can grab the piston rod, it should have very little side to side play, but should have no up and down play

I have a 2007 TRX 400ex, the balance shaft has a lot of axial movement, is this normal? Or should I have some tolerance?

Your saying it's sliding to the left and right? They do have some play in them normally
Off topic but how do u feel bout predator shock thinking of putting them on my blaster I saw u. Put them on 400 ex so was wondering?

Get a wrist pin removal tool. I think rocky mountain sells them try that first. I don't think they are expensive
