Thank God for Ray Benson keeping western swing alive. I've had the the pleasure of meeting him at several different gigs and I will tell you he is a total class act. Thanks for all you have done ray.
Leon Rauch, Eldon Shamblin, Leon Mcauliffe and Johnny Gimble.... Now that's cool. The 2 best dances I ever went to in my life (I've been to a few) were BOTH Asleep At The Wheel. Brother Ray is the man!
Fantastic! Ray Benson's Asleep at The Wheel with four of the original Bob Wills Band members steel guitarist Leon McAuliffe, Johnny Gimble on the mandolin, Eldon Shamblin sitting down on guitar, and Leon Rausch singing lead vocals with Ray Benson!
I first experienced asleep about 1980, at the Bayou in Georgetown. The intro talked about Austin Texas on a saturday night and you realize you are ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL. It was the first I heard the last supper...xox
You need to check out the old Bob Wills videos when he had a full orchestra, and he was laying down musical tracks on all the ol 50's western cereal movies in Hollywood before it became hollyweired.
Does it look like Johnny Gimble stepped on the fiddle players solo in the beginning after the piano solo ? Like the order was suppose to be piano fiddle then mandolin..
Amazing music, amazing musicians. That's Texas culture for you.
Thank god Cindy Cashdollar is from Woodstock, New York
@@jhonyermo Well, Ray is from Pennsylvania. But he got to TX as soon as he could.
