Awesome! You can never get enough of those standard cab SD's. Great video!

Those were the days back in the 60's and 70's as a brakeman for the SP running the local from Houston to Hearne and then the return trip the next day. In those days, all signals were by hand or lantern at night. Those curves meant one brakeman had to spot himself where the engineer could see his relay of the brakeman riding the rear car hand signals. Feed mills were the worst. Once it rained and that sh*t fermented, it would gag a maggot. It would also stick to your work boots. There were none of these fancy poles I see now used to tighten/release brakes. Depending on the rail car, more often than not it was climbing the ladder to set or release. Of course, the real fun was dropping a car/s into a siding. That was pretty slick and depended on the engineer's expertise, the brakeman throwing the switch at the right moment, and the other brakeman releasing the pin, and then riding and operating the hand brake. Oh, yeah! You had to have your foot in the stirrup, hang onto a rung of the ladder with one hand and pull the cut lever with the other, and then race up the ladder.

The US infrastructure is highly deprived. We who travel a lot in different countries can see a significant difference - and not only the rail network, but also road networks, bridges, subways, trams, buses etc ... Why are trains still run on diesel - Europe ended up with it last century!
Visit any European country to discover the difference.

This just randomly showed up in my feed, and while I don't frequent railfan videos very often anymore, I must say this was masterfully done.
I absolutely love the brief introduction to the train, what they're doing, and some familiarization maps that the viewer can associate with what they're watching. Really well done ones, too.

I've seen only two SD60's under NS. 6702, 6707. However, there may have been another SD60 when the Norfolk Southern had ownership back in 2016 for Delmarva. I kinda don't remember it was; if I were to have the footage. I did record it but until my camera batteries died. It's very disappointing that the standard cab locomotives are a thing of the past. It would be nice for NS to preserve one two of them, and consider donating to a museum. Remember, although the world is getting more modern, it's always nice to have a piece of history for anyone or everyone to enjoy. Nice video!

Very informative for a novice person who is re discovered that they love train's. It's been about 20 years since I lived next to a rail line, Still love the sounds even if I don't recall paying much mind to the operation of the rail line in my youth.

After a trip coast to coast on Amtrak over 19 days, I’ve rediscovered my love of American Railroads, so it’s a big thank you for posting the vids, so I’ve become a subscriber so I can enjoy yank trains from the comforts of my arm chair, though we do have the delights of EMDs on the main line over here in the U.K.
They bat along quite nicely through my local station on intermodels at a good 70 mph

It's interesting and very unusual to see SD40-2's and SD60's switching. Back in the 80's thru mid 2000's it was usually the EMD's SW10/12 & SW1500's that were switching.

@Joe Madej they could, but it would cost a lot, besides, they are kinda old but i still like them, i think there getting rid of them because of how old and weak they are, ( no offense), and the newer locos are more reliable then the old ones, srry for the long paragraph.

Also, I found it interesting the way the Conductor gave car lengths, and when passing the switch for the reverse move I heard him say "Truck now." |That's actually a pretty smart move. Gives the hogger a very clear picture of where that last car really is, instead of "half,10 feet, 5,,2, far enough." That works for coupling, but I like how specific this guy is with the points! Right on!
*Edit* i heard him use a no-no term to the hogger around 11:35 though... "Go ahead AND..." Lots of old heads will bust your balls for that one, because it's 2 commands in one. "Go ahead" equates to "Proceed forward" to them. Adding "AND..." adds another. I've seen situations where the oldheads will sit there in idle waiting for clarification as to which he should do. E.G. of a REALLY tough old school hoghead was as follows:
*Conductor* : "Go ahead and bring her back 5 cars."
    *Hoghead* : *Idles*
    *Conductor* : "Something wrong?"
*Hoghead* : "Which is it, Go head, or clear back 5?"
*Conductor* : *awkward pause while he realizes his mistake* "Bring her back 5 cars."
*Hoghead* : "Roger, back 5 cars."
It was kind of shocking to hear, but looking back I understand it more. I still cringe thinking of it.
I'll leave it to you guys to figure out who that rookie conductor was!

The engineer must be thick - he flies into the cut on the customer's spur after the conductor gave clear callout of distance. Easy to see these guys don't get along - and all those couplers pay for it! Wouldn't be surprised if they break down the road!

I had to search online for "roadrailers". Had never seen them before. Resorceful! Was also interestin to see the 'short locomotive' pulling with three biggies. Man - you put me in mood... gonna go get train to Edinburgh today. Cross over the massive Forth Rail Bridge & get off at the ancient cast iron Waverly Station.
