- Join me for some bitters, stouts, IPAs and more on part 1 of our October SPBW coach trip to Preston and Chorley! I was pleasantly surprised by how varied and overall good quality the pubs of Preston were, and as usual everyone was super friendly. Let me know where I missed, which boozer was your favourite and where I should visit next.

Great to see people visiting Preston. We have a really neat little beer scene going on. Love that Sean opened up Vinyl Tap for you, top man!
That's going on my bucket list!
Love the Black Horse! Cheers!
Double gin and mixer with free ice. That's right free ice, what a bargain. Preston must be under a stampede.
Glad you visited the Black horse pub. A little known fact. It has 3 addresses being on the junction of 3 roads. My Granddad used to go there. He actually told the landlord at the time that the floor was all beautifully tiled. At the time it was covered in linoleum. Anyway they took it up and now as you can see. The tiles are fully exposed. 🍻 cheers.
Keep up the good work! You do a nice job presenting great pubs which should be supported. 💯👍
Good stuff. I live in Preston and go out regularly. We are very lucky to have such brilliant boozers not only in the city centre but in the surrounding towns and villages,
From the video, the ale choices at the Old Vic looked pretty good to me, so a bit surprised to hear you say otherwise.
Just found your Channel this afternoon. What excellent vlogs of micro breweries and good ales 👌👍
Cracking vid once again Ethan..love Marble Mild..Black Horse is a belting old Boozer. I've not slurped in Preston for years..looking forward to Chorley mate👏🍺👍
Thanks! Yeah Preston is deffo worth a visit for the pubs! Cheers 🍻
Looks like you found some hidden gems in Preston! I would love to see The Vinyl Tap in the evening! 🤟🍻
Definitely, we had our wedding reception there in September
A very unique quiz night on Tuesdays and always some great bands at the weekends.
Could do with a pint myself now after the emotional rollercoaster that was getting into the vinyl tap - looks like a right spot that!
Great video, trust you lot getting the vinyl pub to open for you haha 🤣 poor Paul with his black eye 😢 tell him to be careful, we can’t be without Paul content!
I'm in Australia and the algorithm put me on to you. It's almost 40 degrees today so the air-con is cranked to 11, my wife and children are doing their own things and I'm in the office watching this sipping some cold Hoegaardens. Just subscribed and looking forward to going through your other content. Cheers 🍻🐨
Great video, I'm from preston but moved away yrs ago, so it was really good to see the old place.Glad you enjoyed it.Cheers
like the concept of this channel, well done
Great watch. Missed a few good pubs so you've got a reason to go back. Keep em coming
Thanks! Yeah Preston was a great spot and I’ll definitely go again
As a Prestonian, I know most of these bar staff by name - Ben at Plug & Taps, Beth at the Black Horse, Sean at Vinyl Tap. Good to see you had a reasonable day in Preston.
Love the vids. Inspired me to join CAMRA! I live in Newcastle and manage a guy in Preston so those 2 are my favourites but my old manager is from Shipley and I love York so enjoyed those as well. Keep up the excellent work!!
My Preston visit was in December 2023 and I matched with three of yours - Old Vic, Black Horse and Orchard.
Totally agree the Black Horse is an absolute classic, like stepping back in time a little.
Like you I'm partial to a nice mild.
I'm Preston born and bred and we've always had a lot of good pubs. It's obviously looking run down now in parts but it's still a good pub crawl if you know where to go. The Old Vic is always a good pub for Ales and watching the footy.
Just found your channel so subscribed I live in Preston & Black Horse is a unique pub good choices in there Plug & taps lovely little ale micro bar as well.
The Ferret is a great pub for music 🎵🎶
The answer to pubs closing down is to reduce the price of a pint. People cant afford to go out anymore. Did my boozing in Preston for years and still live close by.
My university city that, definitely a few spots opened since I grafted away in the Greyfriar. Top tour 🍻
Worth a visit for sure, I had a great time 🍻
My cat and I both like your music!
Absolute superb selection of pubs in Preston
I was very impressed! Cheers 🍻
At the beginning of the video, you just walked past The Old Black Bull on the corner, and The Dog & Partridge a few doors up = points deducted.
Have to save some for the sequel! 😜
And he missed The Guild Ale House😉
The guild is studentsville@@Closedgroove
@@mickobyobrien2650guild ale house, not the guild
Enjoyed watching, thank you for posting.
Whereabouts do you travel from for your trips?
Leeds 👍🏻🍻
@RealAlesRealPubs I'm in Huddersfield
The Black Horse is everything I would want to experience if I came to the UK and wanted to visit one pub. You didn't even rate it because it's clearly a 10/10.
You rhymed off all that wonderful history of England while walking past a sushi bar a Turkish barbers and European mini market we have fallen so far.
I live in Preston and it's struggling because of what lives here now!
I don't know you, but I'm sure you're not that bad.
And what would that be…….
@@jpross68 ah yes, here we have the socialist virtue signallers…
Cracking vid mate. In Preston today. Will be going for a few pints.
Enjoy mate!
If you want a good pub day out try St Anne's on Sea 👍
Chain House have done loads of great collaborations with some of the UK's top Independent Breweries
Preston easy day trip from London 2hrs 39mins.
Was just looking into hitting Preston id i popped over again.
Preston is a good night out plenty of cocktail bars. Or there was.. its been a while
I was in the black horse just before Xmas. Great pub but £6.50 for a pint of moreti was a bit steal
Moretti................where's that breweb, Stoke?
I go to Preston regularly, next time, Winckley street Ale House and Guild Ale House should be added, forget the walk out to Moorbrook, too sketchy with beer in my opinion, same thing with beers seems to happen every time I go, 'just the end of the barrel', too much of a coincidence for me. The old Vic (Vic and Station) was the place I started drinking real ale at 13!
I wouldn't say Preston is struggling. Sure the high street has a lot of closures but that's much the same for most city's. Look at all the development that has gone into the roads and pavements in the city centre. The brand new University buildings next to The Adelphi. The constant stream of bars and restaurants opening down the lesser known streets in the city centre.
I grew up on Plungington on the council estates and I can tell you it's in a better place than it used to be. We have a thriving University that brings thousands of people from all over the world and it's got bigger and bigger every few years. I don't doubt that some areas in Preston are struggling but the title is misleading since his time is spent in the city centre not on the council estates. Get down to Gamul, Grange, Avenham, Moor Nook etc. and you will see where there are real problems. And I say problems not struggles because after all this is a first world country, the unemployed are taken care of with free housing, free money and any other hand outs. Alls a woman has to do is squirt a kid out these days and they get a free house.
Great video mate! What is the West Yorkshire group called again?
@@paulbaker8003 Society for the Preservation of beers from the Wood (SPBW) it’s a national org, I’m in the West Riding branch (because the branch was formed back when the ridings still existed 😂)
@ thanks mate I’ll look into it! I’ve subscribed also all the best mate!👏🏻👏🏻🍺
Ptown is sound go to blackburn ans have a oint you would think ptown is beverley hills compared
Lancaster is the heart of Lancashire.
lol
Why didnt you mention the bond bug
I misheard spbw as sbbw and now I'm afraid my Google search is forever tainted.
Oh no! Our Paul has a black eye! Nice video though
Don’t worry, he took 4 of them out 😂
14 years of Tory polices hasn't helped !!!!
Given that the English civil war started in 1642 how was preston affected by it in the 1400’s?
Oops that should be 1600s! Im amazed no one has spotted that until now, I might be able to add a correction. Cheers! 🍻
@ no problem, I only know because I live near by and the civil war battle of preston started outside my house, 👍
Chemical Brothers!
Struggling city is inaccurate. Preston wins awards for its standard of living and livability.
It's just not a run down town centre
Weak alcohol those. I am used to drinking a 6.0 Dragons Breath, dark hefeweizen myself. But I guess if you are making a day of it, 4.5 is enough. Ha, ha. Oh ok, later on on the video are some higher alcohol beers. Fosters on tap? yuck! Who the hell drinks Fosters? I don't think even the Aussies do.
Here in Missoula, MT many bars have casino machines. I can see you have those in the Pubs there. I have won more money on these casino machines in the bars here in Montana than I ever did in any real casino in the US even Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada. But I suppose because when I was at those real casino places, I was only passing though.
Yeah on the day sessions you have to be careful. That dragons breath sounds lovely though! Idk who drinks fosters lol, it’s often one of the cheap lagers on tap in pubs. Yes they’re pretty common, in England we call them “fruities” would you believe!
Lack of investment, huge mass immigration & a large Muslim population are the main problems in Preston 👍🏼
The least struggling city in Lancashire.
Your going wrong way all pub's are on church street pal
How many seconds into the video did you get before posting this comment pal? 10? 20? 😂
Chain House not long been open
If you want to blame someone for the railway punctuality/reliability look no further than the unions and their workforce. It will not prove to be privitisation as you cannot change the mentality of Mick Lynch and his mob, as they are the problem and not who owns the network as they do not care for the travelling public one iota.
privatisation is the problem ,.not the unions
Privatisation is the problem, when the infrastructure is privately owned it will be built and operated to maximise profits and cut as many corners as possible. Union strikes are there to deter negative changes to the people (mainly workers) so they aren't exploited for some random upperclassmen to get a few extra 0s on his paycheck. Nationalising the rail system would fix a lot
@@mihranplayz3430It really shows how very little you know the actual infrastructure in terms of the track, signals and stations have been nationalised in terms of Network Rail for over a decade and that is the main problem on the network. In someways make the whole thing nationalised then Mick Lynch and his lazy unreliable workers will have no-one to blame. However whatever you do they will still find someway Labour or Tory to pin the blame on the government when it is their antiquated expensive practices and unreliability that is actually the main issue.
@@neilboulton9813 the tracks themselves are owned by the national rail however the actual train services are all privately owned. With multiple private train providers using the infrastructure while not fixing their underlying issues with their staffing and scheduling, the entire system grinds to a halt. If it were nationalised, and done properly and not half assed, there would be efficient direct communication between the train services instead of blaming and delays would not only be less common but also less impactful. Train fares would be cheaper because the goal of the train services wouldn't be to maximise profits for the CEO, and workers would be paid fairly. I genuinely do not see a downside to nationalising the rail, considering that even if it is privatised unions will exist (and yes, unions are important. It's not a mob, they have a purpose)
@@mihranplayz3430 Like I said you will have no-one to blame when the service is still s*ht once it is all nationalised. You will then realise the staffing issues are not TOCs fault it is the lazy unreliable workers and their union pay masters. Who have to justify their enormous pay packets much like the CEOs you mention by agitating for yet another strike leaving people shivering on the platform and eventually giving up and just driving if they can. The government has already said it won't lead to cheaper fares, so if you believe that you are a muppet. As again we have the highest paid train drivers in Europe that our ticket prices will have to pay for!
The D and P ,was A Great Rock Bar ,Its Shite Now
14 Years of Tory Rule ,Discusting !!!!
FALSE - Labour have won every local election in that meantime. LABOUR caused Preston to turn into P*ki central…
