Thunderbolt 1000T Siren Test 7-20-2011

Monthly test of my single phase Thunderbolt 1000T on July 20, 2011. Look closely and you can see the red light flashing during the signal cycles.
Yes, it was deafening. This video provides NO justice on how freakin' loud it was in person. Stuff in the shop rattled around and even the ground felt like it was shaking when the horn was pointed towards me. It's amazing at what sound pressure can do..

Looks like a nice restoration. I live two blocks from one that was disconnected five years ago due to a T-128 being installed. However, I can remember when it used to function, and when it did work it would pierce your ears when you were outside and it pointed your direction. I wish it still functioned as I think they are much louder than the T-128's by far.

Thats the sound I remember from my childhood. in the 1980's.
There I was alone at home, folks were out miles away doing stuff. TV alerted me that bad storms were coming, it went from 5pm kinda cloudy to pitch black, within 20 min and this model of siren was less than 1/2 a block away. Power blinks, tv and radio mess up for a minute, i look outside to see lightning getting worse, loud LOUD thunder then this siren goes off. Its so loud my head hurts, the windows are rattling, even shaking/flexing then, the entire neighborhood looses power and the siren goes out.
For a 12 year old kid, it was a damn frightening evening. Folks came home with a dented up truck(hail) and ..yea, they were happy to see nothing happened to the home or myself. Weather can be darn crazy in tornado alley, esp in the spring.

@xmoqtip He restored it himself. Lots of siren enthusiasts have sirens installed on their property that they use for storm warnings.

A very familiar sound in my hometown in Wisconsin. Tested every Saturday at 12 noon. If it was heard any other time, It was a warning of severe weather or approaching Tornado!

@daewooparts I wish I knew just how much wind comes out of a Thunderbolt horn when it's running at full power. It must be quite a bit to make that screen jump. Wonder if my mic with it's weighted stand would stay inside the horn for a short test? I'd love to see if it maxes it out on the lowest gain setting!
