Lucas, I just love how you show the learning hiccups and the joy of the lumber you and Caden got. Like you said, it may not be perfect, but it is yours! That's awesome
@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead without a doubt. But some people give up way too easily, especially if they get criticism. You are giving very valuable lessons to Caden. Not given up is a big one in life.v
I remember my shop instructor saying no watches, long air (unless tied up), loose clothing or long shirt sleeves (unless rolled up). If your shirt had not been loose the 4X4 would undoubtedly have come out straight. 😄 I am impressed with the water shut off and your grapple skills!
Awesome job Mr. Lucas. That mill is working great. Love seeing the boy out there with you. Teach em young. Great idea on the 12v solenoid controlling the water. Brilliant.
Nice job Lucas. I am happy for you having the new mill up and running. I am sure that you will get a ton of lumber for your various projects. Thanks for sharing! -Tod
Cut from the small end to limit the number of mill run cuts. That is where the board footage is measured from. Neat idea on your water modification. Please put on the chaps whenever you are using the chain saw, it only takes once. Good series Lucas.
Good to see you cut stickers right away! The most important part of quality wood right there. Super cool idea for the solenoid! I actually think I like that more than the cable actuated ones!
Thanks! Right now I’m using most of what I’m milling green so I haven’t really put them to use yet, but I figured I should start there so I have them and they would be good practice. The water switch is amazing. I love it.
That is a definite must have upgrade. It works so well when milling. You need to try the stock system on a few logs and then switch over. It’s amazing.
I can see in a few years a sign going up on your front lawn, "Peek's Peak Lumber Inc". Good info on the watering system. No sense wasting it when you are not cutting. Take care and stay safe.
Nice job. I thought I was doing something wrong when I first started milling too, having a log bow like that, but it is just muscle memory of a hard leaning tree. Hard wood trees do it more than soft wood
Been watching for a while and just recently subscribed. Love your content and lifestyle. Mine is very similar up here in Michigan except I’m a John Deere guy. LOL. Keep um coming. I’ll be watching and Gods creation is great. Len
You may not have turned that knob. The blades can stretch a little when first put on. May need to check the tension the first few cuts until it is dialed in and stays.

Thanks! To me that is all part of the process…you have to make mistakes to learn.

MechMaxx r&d dept should get on board with you on this and make it happen. So simple yet so effective. Great job.
Thank you! I’ve milled several logs on the system now and I am really loving it. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade!

Yeah, good advice for sure. 😊 On the bright side, now I know what not to do! 👊

Alright, cool! Good tips! 👊
Great video brother!!!!! Working with that mill, lumber, slabs and firewood will keep you healthy and make a heck of a man out of Caden.
It’s work for sure, but we really are loving it! Thanks for watching! 👊

The water switch is amazing. I love it.
Get the scale down, it is your best friend when milling. Great video!
I’m learning….slowly…
I ordered the parts that you used for the Auto Watering. Thanks for the tip!

Haha. I would have to get a lot better to ever make any money! 😂
You need to build a shed over that mill! 😉
I better! Can’t have it rusting on me…

Thanks for the info! I milled a bunch this evening and got some nice straight oak boards! 👍
Nice job Lucas! Cant wait to get my mill!
It is exciting! You’re gonna love it.
Hahahaha, my boy smiled the whole time you were talking to your son. As soon as he heard the dirtbike, his ears perked up.
Yeah, Caden is my buddy! He loves to ride!
I have never put sycamore on my mill Lucas. I have heard it is pretty wood and has a nice Ray Fleck.

I didn’t think of that. You may be right. I will just keep close tabs on it for a bit and see how it does.
Hay buddy you should be able to wire that solenoid into your on off switch and not have to use a battery to power it .
That would be nice, but I’m not so sure…. Doesn’t the kill switch work through ground? My mill isn’t electric start…
@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead it should have one wire that will have power on it while the mill is running
@@Kylesdoingstuff80 I’ll test for that next time I’m up there. Thanks! 👊
Just a thought, I wonder if you can use the wood shavings for your baby chick bedding?
Yes, I am thinking we can find some good uses for them around the farm! 😊
