I would love to see a prediction video of all the predictions made on the Offhand Disney channel that have come true. Whether he said they were going to come true or came true when he said they were not going to come true.
Honestly, I think a Lightyear version of Astro Blasters would be cool. It could go into the sort of cyberpunk style the movie had, maybe make a few references to the original Toy Story and the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command series. Also, hopefully this would include an animatronic of Sox.
As someone who grewup watching Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins (aka the real movie that the toy Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story is based on) and the subsequent TV show, I really hope this rumer isn't turn because I found the Lightyear movie to be disappointing and I know little kid me would have found it extremely boring and been very upset that this buzz is nothing like the Toy Story Buzz or the cartoon Buzz.
As much as I love BL of Star Command, I am worried that we won’t get it as the powers that be at Pixar genuinely disliked that show/movie. Which sucks because the show was fantastic
@@martidodger7106 Indeed it was. I wouldn’t worry too much about what Pixar thinks of it, though. They’re just one arm of a massive beast that is going to do whatever profit dictates. They can’t stop Disney from doing something with the property without them because (unlike back then) Disney owns them outright. I don’t have quite the imagination to see a world where there’s enough sudden demand that they try a revival of the series or a ride, but a comic or something small like that is definitely possible. Devil’s Advocate, though: nearly the entire original cast is still alive and working, they COULD pick up where they left off or do a movie if they wanted to.
as another massive buzz lightyear fan i definitely wouldn't mind a space mountain retheme, but i know i'm the minority here and disney would have to be TREMENDOUSLY stupid to do that- a lightyear retheme of astro blasters? full steam ahead. ...as long as there's not an over-usage of screens. go big or go home! give me the sickest zurg animatronic and i'll be golden
Considering light years poor box office number i wouldn’t be surprised that the lightyear overall will be modified into a lightyear overlay for Disneylands space mountain
If they balanced out the way Astro Blaster does scoring, I wouldn't care which era it represented. As it is, you can just get stuck in the right spot for thirty seconds and build up a score nobody could touch with an average ride-through. The skill-based scoring of Webslingers and Midway Mania draw me in to try to beat my personal best. The score on BLAB is just too random to be meaningful.
The two best attractions of all time hands down are haunted mansion and pirates of the Caribbean. Space mountain is perfection and doing anything to it especially downgrading it with a childish overlay is a horrible idea which guarantees this is exactly what they will do. They are not concerned with preservation of anything that is not selling merch.
@@veromikes After I seize Disney in a hostile takeover and make it great again by bringing back old attractions and De-Chapefying the company, nearly everything will be sacred.
i think an overlay makes more sense than a complete retheme but i don't think either will happen, people love spreading rumors... even if they did do a lightyear overlay on space mountain it would fit tomorrowland a whole lot better than star wars which explicitly takes place "a long time ago" AND has it's own land on the other side of the park, while with lightyear a big theme of the movie is time travel so it would make more sense with TOMORROWland
Honestly, an overlay would be much more feasible. It could be around for a specific time, and then go back to the classic Space Mountain. (Though it would be cool if they had a retro overlay that simulated the original Space Mountain experience)
After opening Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind, I can't see them putting in another space-themed attraction. However, since they have done an overlay for Space Mountain before they might do a limited-time Lightyear themed one.
I think Space Mountain is fine, especially the one in California. They’ll wait to do anything with it if/when they decide to redo the entire land. In the Magic Kingdom I think it’s a different story, I’m not thinking complete re-theme I’m thinking a heavy referb inspired by what they’ve done with Cosmic Rewind.
Yeah Magic Candle Company definitely made it seem like my office was on fire. I had a Rome wax melt going and everybody in the office started freaking out.
We need *something* done with the PeopleMover track, and we need something more than a no-effort walk-through attraction in the old Carousel of Progress/American Sings building.
I fully believe Disney plans to just spam IP. Anything they do for a movie is because of the parks and the initiative to add more "characters". Think of a ride without a movie and I bet it's coming.
The worst part of "IP" is that it has completely removed the distinction in theme of the different parks. All of the Disney parks are now the "Studios" park, because every ride is based on a movie. They just stick a ride into whichever park happens to have some free space at the time.
I can't see any Disney animated movie really dominating the box office. Doctor Strange Multiverse of madness is already out on Disney+, it stands to reason that Lightyear will be on the service very soon. We're talking about a relatively short wait between theater release and streaming release. Why go to the theaters at that point? I only watched Lightyear in theaters because a theater nearby has $5 Tuesdays with free popcorn, and I think I was more excited about the movie than most people. I don't think Disney will use the box office as the main indicator of the movie's success. There are Disney+ streams, toy sales (which Lightyear has around a dozen different toy lines) and critical reviews to also consider. Having said that, I really don't want to see a retheme of Space Mountain. I do, however, think a retheme of Astro Blasters/Space Ranger Spin is way more likely. I think the tone would match the potential retheming of Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom that you alluded to in a prior video. Lightyear would match Tron more than the cartoony Buzz Lightyear. Although, I think I might miss the cartoony Lightyear ride and the jingle at the end of the ride.
17:24 Don’t be silly Dallin. That wouldn’t happen in real life. Bob Paycheck would be too scared to show his face in front of an audience of Disney fans.
I really hate the Buzz Lightyear Blasters ride. Just an absolute assault on the senses. I could never tell if my gun was firing, if I was hitting anything, or what I should be looking at. Feels like a cheap carnival ride. I hope they change it to something better and leave Space Mountain alone
Yes, Astro Blasters feel cheap, it isn't much fun, and the interactivity feels like a gimmick. Although I generally prefer physical rides to screen-based rides, I'd rather have a well-done screen-based ride (Toy Story Midway Mania) than a poorly done physical ride (Astro Blasters).
@@lutherheggs451 fail in the sense of a Pixar film coming out of a Toy Story name recognition. It's nowhere close to the money received by the main saga and 100 mill. Well if they can possibly create a Lightyear themed overlay of Anaheim’s Space Mountain, then if I were to ask and request Disney, I would request them to make a Wall-e overlay for 3 reasons! Because #1, the movie takes place in outer space after the titular robot Wall-e leaves Earth to catch up with his love interest EVE on her spaceship who’s in directive mode as he heads towards the Axiom. #2, it would be beautiful, whimsical, and spectacular during the ride as we fly and zip through the stars watching Wall-e (Holding and spraying his fire extinguisher) and EVE (After she retrieves her plant and cheers energetically and kisses Wall-e for saving her) flying and dancing together in the cosmos just like they did in the movie before they head back in the Axiom! And #3, it’s one of my favorite Pixar movies featuring sci fi! 🌌

Yeah, I think the reason that so many 1970s-80s Disney attractions were not based on existing IPs was that Disney just wasn't doing that great in the theaters in that era. The new hits weren't there that would justify a tie-in.
@@MattMcIrvin That's a lie. Back then they still followed the golden rule that should still be governing all decisions at Disney: "What would Walt do?" If you think like a corporate Disney decision maker, re-theming to current IP is the ONLY thing you can do that is totally safe to the shareholders and will have to be supported. With the last four Pixar movies free on Disney Plus skipping theaters, Lightyear suffered because everyone was conditioned to not go to theaters. We'll have to see the next few weeks of the box office to determine.
Controversy surrounding the film may have also played a huge part. Top Gun Maverick (without a doubt the best movie this year imo) is still in theaters and Jurassic World was only in its second week. Wait... wasn't it implied in the OG 'Toy Story' that Andy's toy was based on a cartoon-series? Is that how it went? Movie-to-series-to-toy? I'm just curious... =)
I just want to point out that Tom Hanks voiced woody as a toy, and as a voice actor in Woody’s round up. The argument that this Buzz was different in the movie makes no sense canonically. Clearly toys have the same voice as whoever they were inspired by. I hope this makes someone irrationally upset
funny you mention that because the actual real woody toys are voiced by tom hanks's brother... i think within the toy story universe the guy who played woody on woody's roundup was just some guy while the guy who played buzz in lightyear was a big famous actor, so the toy company couldn't afford him
I’m fine with there being a ton of IP in parks, but not when it’s done or copy and pasted lazily like Disney. IP should be like what Universal has done with Harry Potter, Jurassic World, Bourne, Secret Life of Pets, and Nintendo.
I am guessing the news source is taking the mural of Buzz Light-year ships flying toward many floating Space Mountains, and connecting the two as a re-theme of Space Mountain.
"Why?" Why would they retheme Space Mountain? (At all, let alone for Buzz.) Because 'Uncle Walt' would want them to "Plus it", and he always wanted the park to change and evolve. (And money. They think they may be able to make money.)
Chapek is all about the money. He doesn't care what Walt would have wanted. Right now, the upgrade that Disneyland's Space Mountain needs is not to the theme, it's to the ride system. They need to fix it so that the whole ride doesn't shut down if the cast members are too slow to load and unload riders.
I think more of star tours leaving us behind now that they have their own land and such... if they switch star tours out and give it a buzz light year ride, it will be made for "families" to enjoy together... as well as it being right next door to the Lazer game

I haven't heard anyone say that but honestly, I think that would be fine. I would just hate if they re-themed space mountain no one touches my child.
If disney turns tomorrow land into a light year theme, It’ll be a flop. Now, if they follow in the foot steps of getting tron introduced and make tomorrow land that type of theme… i foresee a way better outcome.
The original Tron, the new one, or both?
By the time they shut down Space Mountain, did the re-theme, and re-opened the ride, would people even remember _Lightyear?_
I would love to see a prediction video of all the predictions made on the Offhand Disney channel that have come true. Whether he said they were going to come true or came true when he said they were not going to come true.
They'd better NOT re-theme it.... nuff said 😏
Honestly, I think a Lightyear version of Astro Blasters would be cool. It could go into the sort of cyberpunk style the movie had, maybe make a few references to the original Toy Story and the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command series. Also, hopefully this would include an animatronic of Sox.
No. Keep it the way it is.
@@DavidRay_40 you’re really negative, aren’t you?
Agreed. Don’t touch Space Mountain. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is overdue for a refresh though, the set pieces look cheap.
Considering light years poor box office number i wouldn’t be surprised that the lightyear overall will be modified into a lightyear overlay for Disneylands space mountain
We just love watching your videos! Great job on this one.
Updating Astro Blasters (also I love the acronym BLAB) to Lightyear could make sense. Also, I just want this as an excuse for a Sox animatronic.
Disneyland's Space Mountain is perfection. Magic Kingdom's Space Mountain needs to get the Michael Giacchino soundtrack, which adds so much.
It better be a 1 week overlay. What do you think of Buzz's glowing head in Astro Blasters?
The lore of the Mickey plush!
Space Mountain is off limits. Stop!!!
If Splash Mountain isn’t off limits nothing is…
@@NinthShinigami unfortunately nothing is sacred with Bob Chapek.
If they make some changes to space ranger spin, great. But don’t touch my space mountain
Wrong, Wrong... Space Mountain is being re-themed to Frozen ! A perfect match.
At most it will be an overlay like Hyperspace Mountain
After opening Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind, I can't see them putting in another space-themed attraction. However, since they have done an overlay for Space Mountain before they might do a limited-time Lightyear themed one.
I love how politely toy Buzz said “will you please close my helmet”
I think Space Mountain is fine, especially the one in California. They’ll wait to do anything with it if/when they decide to redo the entire land. In the Magic Kingdom I think it’s a different story, I’m not thinking complete re-theme I’m thinking a heavy referb inspired by what they’ve done with Cosmic Rewind.
Yeah Magic Candle Company definitely made it seem like my office was on fire. I had a Rome wax melt going and everybody in the office started freaking out.
After the Splash retheme announcement, I can’t bring myself to care about anything else they mess with.
Same
Seems to be a trend among fans.
I'm okay with the Splash retheme, as long as they do it well. But don't touch my Space Mountain.
@@electronics-girl I just wish it weren’t both coasts, I could deal with it better if only one got rethemed.
We don't need Space Mountain to get rethemed. We need an updated Tomorrowland.
We need *something* done with the PeopleMover track, and we need something more than a no-effort walk-through attraction in the old Carousel of Progress/American Sings building.
@@electronics-girl You're not the only one! I haven't been on that Peoplemover for a long time!
If Disney does this they can say goodbye to a vacation club sub
I fully believe Disney plans to just spam IP. Anything they do for a movie is because of the parks and the initiative to add more "characters". Think of a ride without a movie and I bet it's coming.
Big thunder mountain
The worst part of "IP" is that it has completely removed the distinction in theme of the different parks. All of the Disney parks are now the "Studios" park, because every ride is based on a movie. They just stick a ride into whichever park happens to have some free space at the time.
1:30 --You just got me all depressed about how quickly my kids are growing up!
Finally a reasonable take on this Buzz Lightyear Space Mountain thing! Thank you offhand
Splash mountain and now space mountain, What’s coming next? Are they gonna change big thunder mountain to Woodys rodeo or something?
Disney has already screwed with a bunch of classic rides. LEAVE SPACE MOUNTAIN ALONE!!
the buzz animatronic that was in the queue used to make me cry he scared the shit out of young me
I can't see any Disney animated movie really dominating the box office.
I’ve ordered from the rite magic candle company and the scents are so good!!! And accurate! Not sure how they do it but they’re good… so thanks!
Zero interest in having Buzz, or Lightyear property anywhere. The movie died for fantastic reasons; keep it buried.
Two very historic holidays, the day you met buzz lightyear and the day I was born.
I think they were planning on retheming Space Mountain to Lightyear but because the film failed, the retheming did not occur.
The film didn't fail....Its been out for literally 2 weeks now. and made over 100 million in its first week.
@@lutherheggs451 fail in the sense of a Pixar film coming out of a Toy Story name recognition. It's nowhere close to the money received by the main saga and 100 mill. Ffs TS4 got 1 billion at the box office for its entire runtime. This won't get close to that.
Ngl I have no hate for the film. I absolutely am proud of Disney of showing off a gay kiss despite homophobes boycotting. And the boycotts arent why this film bombed (in comparison to the other films). I just didnt think the film looked too good from the previews, so I decided to skip.
Rethemes are more common now as well as Disney pushing IP so I think that's why this rumor caught steam. I'm as cynical a Disneyland fan as they come and I don't think this is likely to happen or even be on the table. I definitely think that a Lightyear retheme to Astro Blasters is something that is on the table for Disney. I don't know if I'd say I expect it to happen but Shanghai Disneyland's more up-to-date tech makes it seem like an easier/cheaper update to advertise. I don't think that Disney has that much precedent of updating old attractions though (instead of retheming).
The plot line of occult Mickey controlling Dallin is burrowing deeply into my nightmares…
Space mountian upgrade in wdw is unecessary imo especially because a upgraded star wars basically exists in coamic rewind
I Mean, space Ranger spin makes sense…but space mountain? The amount of BACKLASH they would get…. I think it’s just a reference to space mountain or just a coincidence.
Splash’s retheming has been getting much backlash but “apparently” they’re proceeding with it
@@NinthShinigami mmm that’s true….
I think they're testing the waters so to speak, but considering how poorly Lightyear's doing, I'd be surprised if they actually did overhaul Space Mtn
@@NinthShinigami Except there will be no retheme of Splash. It's been cancelled due to funds and backlash. And to anyone who says cancelling it will bring the wrath of Twitter and the MSM down on Disney, it won't.
Not only does having Tim Allen as the "stand-in", merchandising voice make sense, it's absolutely BRILLIANT. 👏👏👏
Are you being sarcastic?
@@otaking3582 Not at all! Tim Allen pioneered Buzz's voice 25+ years ago - in terms of franchise longevity, they couldn't expect him to voice Buzz for another 25(+/-) years. I think this gives them a lot more options regarding which direction they want to take the story. Brilliant. 💜
@@angelamonson8339 No, it's the _opposite_ of brilliant. Tim Allen hasn't shown any signs of health problems, so he's still physically able to voice Buzz. And even when he does get to that point, there are other actors that have done a much better job than Chris Pine (such as Mike MacRae and Patrick Warburton).
ew
They better not replace space mountain if they do they’ll be hell to pay
And your EXACTLY part of the reason why the Disney special eds are just literally the worst....Everyone hates the special ed Disney people who constantly cry about everything like a toddler....Its hilarious that you think they actually care what people think about the theme of rolling around in the dark is.
All the Disney sheep will keep flooding the parks no matter what they do. It’s become a cult
I hope this is just a seasonal retheme kinda like Ghost Galaxy and Hyperspace Mountain
I like how much the "new" Buzz costume looks a lot like the original Tomorrowland cast members that dressed up as astronauts, before their was an astronaut Mickey and the gang, and before Buzz Lightyear became a BIG thing in Tomorrowland.
As I was watching this video, an advertisement for Lightyear started playing. I thought it was quite fitting, and well timed
The only way to see less ip based attractions would be to simply stop watching Disney movies
Yeah, I think the reason that so many 1970s-80s Disney attractions were not based on existing IPs was that Disney just wasn't doing that great in the theaters in that era. The new hits weren't there that would justify a tie-in.
Or Disney is taken over by new management who carries out an IP extermination which is what I plan to do.
@@MattMcIrvin That's a lie. Back then they still followed the golden rule that should still be governing all decisions at Disney: "What would Walt do?" Disney is not about tie-ins and after I take over Disney 90% of tie-ins will be gone and replaced with originality and even old attractions will be brought back.
I can't believe Bob Paycheck was renewed for another 3 years
The movies bombing so I hope not
While I was watching lightyear specifically the part where they where hovering the ship while dodging the rocks I was thinking "this would make a good attraction"
Then It Hit Me!
This Kind Of Attraction ALREADY Exists!
STAR TOURS!
I Know you hate that Star Tours is in Tomorrow Land So This is The PERFECT Solution.
If you think like a corporate Disney decision maker, re-theming to current IP is the ONLY thing you can do that is totally safe to the shareholders and will have to be supported. If you propose something possibly awesome but based not on a current IP you're risking your job. If it doesn't work nobody will blame you, it's the fault of that specific IP being weak. Lightyear Mountain is something every exec will sign off on. Also thanks for the videos!
Many people were also against someone other than Tim Allen voicing Buzz. Really I think it was a lot more factors than just the last few Pixar movies being on Disney+ only…
@@NinthShinigami In the last two years, Lightyear has had the highest opening weekend of any animated movie, so anyone saying it's dead in the water doesn't really follow entire industry as a whole. Top Gun Maverick and Jurassic World are targeted to different demographics, so can't really blame that, Minions will be determining factor if Lightyear is just a casualty of trend or not as it's next animated movie.
@@nickmoney People seem to have a hard time grasping that this is literally Lightyear's second weekend. Its far from anything resembling a failure or disappointment, people need to get this notion that every movie needs to make a jabilliony dollars or its a flop.....100 million is half its budget and again its only been 2 weeks.
@@lutherheggs451 Every family movie has suffered in last three years. Based on box office currently older audiences are going to theaters more than full families.

Plus, it’s biggest competition, Minions, is about to release soon. Also, keep in mind there are marketing costs and the theaters take a percentage of the revenue. You’re overselling how well this movie is doing.

Buzz Lightyear Fights The Ghost Galaxy would be pretty cool
All the Space mountains are connected to all the other parks. All the stations are numbered for the year they were open to the public.

First? Also kinda sucks everything is IP now.
I’m fine with there being a ton of IP in parks, but not when it’s done or copy and pasted lazily like Disney. IP should be like what Universal has done with Harry Potter, Jurassic World, Bourne, Secret Life of Pets, and Nintendo.
you were fourth
The chapek impression is oddly on point with the added echo
The problem with IP-especially WEAK IP is that it needs updating quicker than not. And they make decisions like Mr. Magoo.
IM EARLY AND I LOVE YOU CONTENT OFFHAND YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I think more of star tours leaving us behind now that they have their own land and such... if they switch star tours out and give it a buzz light year ride, it will be made for "families" to enjoy together... as well as it being right next door to the Lazer game
