  • Josh Rose took his two young sons to the park to enjoy the sunshine, but little did he realise that lurking in the grass was a creature that would leave him minutes from death.

This man had an anaphylactic reaction, so his experience does not really reflect the danger of envenomation as such. A similar thing is possible from a bee sting, but bee venom is not a life endangering toxin in itself. So talking about sitting in the pram as having being helpful is really missing the point in this case. This species' venom is nasty but unlikely to cause death or serious injury in a healthy adult. Thankfully he got the medical attention he needed and can tell the tale.

      Yup
Got bitten by one this year and only after the bite was healing was when I noticed it was a snake bite.
It wasn't a dry bite either but since it didn't cause any further issues I did not even go to see a Dr.
Healed off normally and only the bite marks took a bit longer to heal.

My great grandfather was killed by an adder bite in 1906.

Saw one in my parents garden, which backed onto woods, it sidled right by my feet but made no attempt to strike, I knew what it was as we often had grass snakes and slow worms visiting the garden, often hiding in the grass cuttings my father used for compost, and could see this was a very different species of snake due to it's patterning

I live in Australia and the death adders we have here are considered extremely dangerous, I'm no expert and I don't know if the English adders are as dangerous as ours but before we got anti venom here 50% of people bitten by adders didn't survive, they are very fast strikers and masters of camouflage, but I would like to stress the importance of having a compression bandage for snake bites, they are a stretchy bandage and in an emergency can be applied above the bite and wound up the limb arm or leg and back down get medical help as quickly as possible but the bandage will slow down the spread of the venom, put one in your car, have one at home, if you go walking in grassy or bushy places have one in your back pack, we can buy them in chemist shops here, as I say I'm not medically qualified but snake experts here recommend them, the bandage doesn't take the place of medical treatment at all but it could save a life, many videos about snakes don't mention this useful item.

The European adder is nowhere near as dangerous and your lucky that you live in Australia 😢

The death adder is actually very different to the snake in this report (what are called adders are generally vipers but not the death adder which has this misnomer because it happens to look and behave just like one). The death adder's venom is not only far more potent but it also works differently. In fact, applying a pressure bandage to a bite from a viper, like this one, would be a very ill-advised thing to do. The venom may cause localised necrosis which could be considerably worsened if the venom is prevented from dissipating due to the bandage. As there are no vipers in Australia, the local advice where you live would not consider this (if you are bitten by a death adder the point of the bandage is to slow the progress of the venom to your vital organs). Basically one should be cautious in thinking that what is true of the snake species present in one part of the world applies elsewhere. Do keep your pressure bandage handy, but don't worry about packing it the next time you take a holiday in Europe 😊

European adder bite is about equivalent to a bad bee sting.

The English adder are not consider to dangerous. The degree of danger is a mixture of the potency of the venom and also how much venom is injected. I have pit viper in my part of florida with the copper head then pigmy rattler being less dangerous and the water moccasins and larger rattlesnakes being on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Good old blondie would have probably taken the snake to hospital for a check up and left the man foaming at the mouth

bees/wasps are stinging more people than the UK adder does. So if adder bites was as common as bee/wasp stings, i think it will be alot more deaths

Not sure why they bother interviewing guests on this programme. .
Just let the presenters talk for hours and the guests can sit and nod.
They're only interested in their own voices.
