    I actually love Dawn of the Dragon a lot. I always wanted a flying mechanics in Spyro. I got used to the controls of flying and it’s never been frustrating to me because I started understanding the limitations. I also loved the elemental breath mechanics. Once you learn to take advantage of them, it can be really fun. Better than in the other legend of Spyro breath mechanics.
    I also like playing as Cynder more than Spyro shockingly. Not only does she have a cool design, her breaths are super powerful when you figure them out and upgrade them.
    I think the story can hit hard if you pay attention. I love the last scene. It’s neat and it’s also a visually pleasing game to look at. I like Spyro’s design best in DotD

    I've said this before, but I'd rather take Eternal Suffering (Eternal Night) over Enter the Dragonfly... because there is actually one nice thing I can say about Eternal Night despite everything in the game the story and what not... The ending theme, This Broken Soul and the creators did try (for the most part) to work with making a new sequel.
    Enter the Dragonfly is... What I'm about to say next is gonna be something that only Angry Video Game Nerd could describe it.... Universal had no idea what to do with it and basically made a bunch of different developers play hot potato with a steamy hot pile of sh*t and whoever was stuck with it had to finish the game.
    To some people, Spyro Enter the Dragonfly seems like a giant blunder "Oh there are other games, they revitalized the series after that screw up" and to several others it was like "No. Spyro is now in a coma because of that game. There's no way he'd able to recover after something like that." I'm of the latter and at least it seems like a miracle that they actually brought Spyro back.

    • @TheGravityShifter
      @TheGravityShifter 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well I'll counter it with my opinion. At least Enter the Dragonfly tries to continue off of the original trilogy and has an okay OST despite it being from the legend who is partly responsible for the immaculate work of Spyro 3's OST. Meanwhile Krome Studios thought harder would be better in Eternal Night making it the most frustratingly bad game in the whole entire existence of Spyro. And since gameplay is the most important aspect of a game, I'm going to say EN is the worst one. Though one could probably find some merit in the DS port, Idk.

    • @ShahroozSmith
      @ShahroozSmith 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheGravityShifter Fair points, but I think Enter the Dragonfly did more damage because it made Stewart Copeland quit Spyro up until he was brought back in for the Reignited Trilogy. It is a good OST, but not enough to save it from all the potential bugs...
      Eternal Night is hard, no question, but it is possible to beat it.. but you will lose a part of yourself trying to, but it isn't a broken mess and is still fully functional. Plus, it eventually got a sequel (albeit a different studio and not Krome)
      Still, we all have our opinions of each one. For me, I'm more of the mind of taking a hard game over a broken one.

    • @TheGravityShifter
      @TheGravityShifter 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ShahroozSmithNaturally it would do more damage because it wasn't just the first BAD Spyro game, but it was also the first one after 3 banger games in a time where Internet was a rarity in homes so you could only rely on Magazines and stuff for news. So one could say it's worse in terms of timing.
      Possible yes, but that doesn't make it stupidly bad in terms of the unfair levels of challenge. It was this way by design because there's also a lot more Healing Gems too. If I ever did play it again, I'd do it with Cheats lol.
      In an ideal situation, neither would be played. But if I had to pick, I'd sooner take a more broken game than a hard game. Because if it's broken, I know not to waste my time any further, whereas with a game that's unfair levels of hard would just be bad for your mental health if you tried to persevere. And that's coming from someone whose played and enjoyed From Soft games. They're hard but totally fair for the most part. EN is just artificial difficulty to pad out an already super repetitive game.

    i just have so, so much love for A Hero's Tail - to the point where I really honestly don't see eye-to-eye with alot of peoples complaints about it.
    The worlds are all vast and awesome. I LOVE the transitions between them rather than just taking portals!
    Finding a grown over, rusty old elevator and fixing it up to take you up to a cloud citadel, completing a difficult platforming challenge to get over to a stained-glass dome sitting in the ocean and breaking it to find an old Atlantis-y ruin. Starting in a bright, happy dragon village and traveling through an innocent enough looking building that becomes a tunnel, that then goes deeper into the earth... and darker... and comes out in a lush but dangerous swampland full of crocodile people.
    The later worlds are less good at this, the differences between hub-world and level becoming vaguer, but they are still alright - especially when digging deeper and deeper into an active volcano leads you into a secret laboratory full of robots and high tech platforms, SUPER alien from the rest of the game's tone.
    The platforming is varied, challenging and fun. They give you alot of different tools to experiment with and they are all well explored.
    The mini games are on point for the most part - Sgt. Bird is at his very best - Hunter, Bart and Sparx are all sweet too... Blink drags on a little too long, tho.
    The writing was cheesy, but I've always found it endearing. Alot of the jokes hit me when I was a kid too - especially all the elders!
    My biggest gripe with the game is how empty it feels, how un-lived in. The grand royal castle in the Ice world has a beautiful Fox Queen in it... where are her subjects? The beach world has an otter surfer dude... where are his friends? There is a SINGULAR mermaid in the atlantis ruins, and ONE Hyena lady in the volcano world - where the hell IS everyone???
    I think with A Hero's Tail, and perhaps Shadow Realm or whatever the DS game, they were testing the waters to make a larger childrens franchise... maybe even a TV show. The characters are all very suited for a simple morning Saturday cartoon, moreso than any other game... and I will always mourn not getting that. Its a goddamn miracle we got something so GOOD after Enter the Dragonfly, and I still blame that game for A Hero's Tail's bad reputation.
    The Original 3 may be BETTER games, and I love Spyro the Dragon (1) to death... but A Hero's Tail, in my heart, is right up there with them.

      I played A Hero's Tail for the first time about two years ago, I can see why people would like it. It felt more like Jak and Daxter to me than Spyro. The worlds were pretty great, but the final boss battle was incredibly underwhelming. Overall, a good game, but not my preferred Spyro experience.

Entering the Valley of Avalar there for the first time was BEAUTIFUL. It was fun exploring the areas and using different elemental breaths, and Guide You Home is also amazing as the credits theme (and I liked the ending too). I don't have much love for the Legend games, but recently I found some appreciation for Eternal Night.
    People seem to harp on its diffulty a lot, but that's exactly what makes it engaging to me. I like how brutal some of those fights can get, how utilitarian most of the spells are now, and how useful Dragon Time is during combat.
    I also like the bigger emphasis on platforming when compared to the first game, where I felt like I was just going from one battle arena to the next. There are even collectibles to find now, which instantly puts its levels ahead of anything in New Beginning.
    I agree the pirate section is a trashfire, but that's because it reminds me so much of the first game's design, with constant battles against loads of the same old enemies I've been fighting from the beginning of this series.
    I'm not saying Eternal Night is some kinda hidden gem, or an underrated classic, but I do think the hate for it is way overblown.

  • @pikapat321
    @pikapat321 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I’d take Eternal Night over A New Beginning every and any day, ANB is literal tutorial after tutorial and every level is designed after the element you just learned, it never feels like the game ever starts
    Eternal Night has issues though it’s my personal number 2 best, but at least it treats the player as competent, levels are unique, bosses are more unique, challenge is there, etc

  • @dnissrs5892
    @dnissrs5892 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Dude, I couldn't disagree more with Eternal night. It's literally my favourite Legend of Spyro game and maybe even favourite spyro game. It improved on combat from previous game, story is very good, the music is great especially in the tutorial levels (which I love the most because of environment), and it's not as easy as new beginning (that was just toooo easy and boring, but still good) and gives some kind of challenge. And the ending, especially after the credits always gives me goosebumps. The atmosphere of the whole trilogy is perfect and it's only game so far for me that made me cry, literally. And the biggest kicker? I started playing legend trilogy in DECEMBER, 6 months ago for the first time. And I just came to LOVE it.
    Sorry, I don't agree with many of your points. Funnily enough, I equally disagree with your Crash games list. So, we certainly have VEERRYY different opinions with these franchises.

      I was as impressed as you my dude, Eternal Night was the one i used to come back the most and the one i had the more fun with. But well, that trilogy was kinda underrated imo, just a new aproach to the character, and an actual story i got really engaged with. Don't lose hope, ps2 trilogy fans still out there

      @@nagustronex Very similar approach. I also though they totally basterdized them characters, but after giving it chance, I came to love that trilogy. First time I played any spyro game was 2015 (hero's tail), year later I emulated original trilogy and last year I bought reignited. And you know what? Only in december I decided to buy original Legend of Spyro trilogy on PS2 and I just love it. So my Spyro experience and LoS experience is a short one, but I love those games. Ripto barely does ANYTHING meaningful in the story, and not a single NPC outside of the hub worlds bring him up as the cause of Avalar's problems. It doesn't help that his personality boils down to just getting frequently angry. Gnasty Gnorc motivates the player decently, and the Sorceress is a proper character with the best facial expressions, the most variety in emotion and delivery, and the most impact in the story. Who cares if the main character interacts with the bad guy if said bad guy doesn't do complete jack in the story?

Like, the first trilogy was the “old games” and ETD was the better one. Then between ages like 7-9, I started considering Year of the Dragon as the “real” Spyro. Looking back on it now, I can’t believe how much I didn’t know. Like for example, I just thought ETD was a REALLY difficult game, I didn’t even realize it was extremely buggy l

    Ya know, Dawn of the dragon was my favorite Spyro game, followed closely by Spyro: Ripto's Rage.
    I actually loved the flight system, I really enjoyed the overall story and the Leven design was incredible. Especially... what was it, the forest of avalon? I spent sooo much time just flying around there and listening to the gorgeous soundtrack! I really enjoyed the dynamics between Cynder and Spyro, too.
    I loved how much they TRIED to give the series new life in that whole trilogy, and attempt new things. It wasn't perfectly executed, but it was still pretty enjoyable.

I once even rage quit when I fought Ripto because the controllers simple keep freezing when I smashed the jump button to fast. The 3rd was actually my favourite because of the flying mechanic. I actually fell like a real dragon in that game.

    I'd argue the biggest issue with Spyro 3 is it's complete lack of focus. The 4 companions alone should have been striped down to 2 just so they could get more refined move sets and level designs. Let alone the sheer volume of unique mini games that suffer from balance issues. Perfection is a lot of little things done well, and Spyro 3 just had too much going on.

I grew up with the ps1 Spyro's so i have very much nostalgia about them, but i also tend to get bored with them and would like a game with a little bit more of substance to it.

Spyro 2 and 3 never got levels like wizards peak and tree tops, it never holds your hand like the other two and lets you figure out how get all the collectables. the mini games never gave me that satisfaction then finding the dragon one my own when I replayed them. I 100% am on sync with this list! If I would make a list, I would make it just like this.
    One thing that I just want to point out though, and its not a disagreement, its a perceptive: The cutscene with the Chronicler does seem silly, but the purpose it's trying to convey here, other than seeing the opportunity to be an exposition and backstory dump, is that history is already written. He's a magical Chronicler, if he has seen and dotted down the future, than it cannot be changed. Our main character, Frodo the Dragon, has a compassionate heart who sees the good in others. Him going to the place where it's written to erupt, is risky and foolish. But, he wants to rescue the person who he sees good in. So, he does go and rescue, despite the fact. This is Character Flaws 101.
    I just want to highlight the meaning of this cutscene, because I want to show that it's not written terribly. CGE has his perspective, if this is how he'll see it, from what he described in the video, than that's his and I won't drag on his ankles any further. It's just his opinion and his alone.

    I put spyro 3 and legend of spyro 3 at the top of my list.
    My favorite isYear of the Dragon because the number of playable characters and vehicles kept it from feeling too repetitive. Even the music is distinct from world to world, and there were fewer times the songs stood out in the first two. Cons: I forget how many of the garbage challenges were in this vs Ripto's Racist Rampage, but the mushroom stomping Sheila level had me swearing like a sailor.
    Dawn of the Dragon gets the second spot because it scratches the itch of "Subspace Emissary 3D" in a way that DMC: Devil May Reboot never quite did. The variety in the movesets, the cinematic presentation, and the LOTR-esque soundtrack had me locked in. Cons: Christina Ricci is has never phoned it in this bad, quicktime events are jewish, they should have picked a lane with how flying works, some challenges are impossible without leveling up and figuring out how to shadow-stun enemies to claw at gears and hold a door shut, and the Hermit hallway deserves an actual surgeon general warning on the game's box. If this game wasn't heroin in my veins the other half of the time, I would have snapped the disc on day 1 and plotted to minecraft the devs' pets.
    My third favorite spyro is Ripto until I play more spyro games.

    Well, I never played the ones after 3...maybe Enter the Dragonfly, but I don't recall. You pretty much matched what I was thinking with the first three! Ohhh, I did love Ripto's Rage, but the first one gave me such grand memories and new adventures to enjoy that they ARE pretty close together for me! Plus, I agree about the music in the first Spyro...you can't go wrong. XD Dark Hollow...LOVE!

    Reasonable list.
    Spyro 2 was my childhood game.
    My only issue with New Beginning was during new game plus you keep your breaths but forced to do each breath tutorial!

      I think so too. The only thing I hated were the lack of checkpoints. I never found all quills and whenever I missed 1 I had to play the entire game again

      I think so as well, the game was fun and challenge for me. I never had that much fun with any other game. Though i must admit that it has its flaws...but so do other games :D

    I always wondered why they even bothered casting Mark Hamill if they were just going to distort his voice beyond all recognition.
    100% agree with Eternal Night taking last place- funny enough, in my opinion at least, the GBA version of that game is vastly superior to the console version.

    I hope that Spyro 4 gets a release date and comes out sooner than later and it's a trilogy like the one we got from TFB. And I HOPE my purple boy gets amazing levels, characters, and newer features. Good luck to the developers at Beenox for making and giving Spyro a new adventure to go on. DO NOT FAIL.

    For me Spyro 1 will always be number 1 as its more adult like, the level designs are the best, soundtrack, dragons, everything…. Spyro 2 is targeting much younger audience with childlike characters in game, Spyro 3 is nice mix of the first two games…everything after was just bad

    As for my personal ranking, of the games I played:
    1) Dawn of the Dragon
    2) Eternal Night
    3) Reignited
    4) Spyro 2
    5) Spyro 3
    6) Spyro 1
    7) A Hero's Tale
    I wanted to play A New Beginning, after enjoying Eternal Night, but I couldn't find it on the shelves, so I just looked up the cutscenes.
    As for Enter the Dragonfly, I did see it on the shelves, but after the meh feeling of A Hero's Tale, I got skeptical, so I looked up Enter the Dragonfly, and learned that it only has one hub-world, and only one boss-fight, and not nearly enough levels for a full game. That was too short to be worth my money (and that was *before* I learned how buggy it is).
    As for Skylanders, I only saw a few chapters of the Netflix series, and I don't like the story, so I have no interest in playing those games. I do see the appeal, but it's not my cup of tea.
    I did hear that the GBA games are good, other than Spyro Orange. Not really into GBA right now, but I might be later on.

    My personal Spyro ranking (of the games I've played):
    1. Spyro Year of the Dragon
    2. Ripto's Rage
    3. Spyro the Dragon
    4. Reignited Trilogy
    4. A Hero's Tail
    5. Enter the Dragonfly
    6. Season of Ice
    7. The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning

    It's quite sad to see Skylanders being forgotten again, they are no specifically spyro games but more of a variation of the formula, combining elements of collectathon and combat from both the original and legend series. It would be great if you gave it a chance some day, since you are a figure that could raise the awareness towards those great games

    1. Spyro the Dragon
    2. Year of the Dragon
    3. Ripto’s Rage
    4. A New Beginning
    5. Dawn of the Dragon
    6. A Hero’s Tail/Enter the Dragonfly
    8. Eternal Night
    I personally think Ripto’s Rage is most overrated Spyro game from the original trilogy. YotD handles backtracking a lot better by having you just go to the part of the level you couldn’t beat previously. RR makes you replay the WHOLE level just to get whatever collectible you need
