Dennis William Quaid is an American actor and gospel singer. He is known for his starring roles in Breaking Away (1979), The Right Stuff (1983), The Big Easy (1986), Innerspace (1987), Great Balls of Fire! (1989), Dragonheart (1996), The Parent Trap (1998), Frequency (2000), The Rookie (2002), The Day After Tomorrow (2004), In Good Company (2004), Flight of the Phoenix (2004), Yours, Mine & Ours (2005), and Vantage Point (2008). He received a Golden Globe Award nomination for his role in Far from Heaven (2002). Quaid has appeared in over a hundred and twenty feature films, and The Guardian named him one of the best actors never to have received an Academy Award nomination.

I stopped watching movies when the writers became activists. Its all about their ESG score now, not about telling a good story well.
Believe it or not they aren’t all captured.
@@AmyMaris they aren't. But good movies seem to be very far and few in-between. The issue with the ESG is that even if a publisher wants to make the movie, if the company doesn't have a good ESG score then they will have their own score lowered by doing business with them. This means banks won't give you loans, etc. This pushes the sane people and those who dont care out. Thus you are not likely to see a good movie, unless they have an angel investor, or their own money.

I grew up with Reagan being president, he was elected before I was ten and he left office after I became eighteen.
He was not just on television as president, you could see his movies on networks, his movies were also included in music videos on MTV in its glory days. He was the first MTV president until Clinton and Obama. All three had charisma in spades.
I was already thinking like a republican which was a asset and a liability at that time. Another problem was being black, conservative, and republican..a vocal republican. This didn't do me any favors.. but I refused to apologize for any of it.
We need a president like Reagan again.
My first anything political was attending a fundraiser for that good man when I was nine! I'm told he gave me a hug, but I don't remember. I do remember talking loudly on the playground and handing out lapel buttons, one made me bleed, so I felt even more involved :0). I still have two of the buttons, no one has talked me out of them!
Except for that ego part of not giving up Star Wars (which was nothing ) to NOT give up nuclear weapons on the world stage. HUGE mistake… 🤦♀️
I already liked Dennis Quaid when I was still a teenager in the Philippines .Met him and sat and played with him on the same blackjack table in Vegas more than 20 years ago and He is as real and as nice as can be. That experience made me a fan for life. This conversation with Jordan makes me admire him even more.

I went to the We who wrestle with God event this past weekend on the 19th in Vegas to see Dr. Peterson. I was moved by the whole thing. I believe, (and I pray that Dr. Peterson will see this) that his answers during the Q&A portion of the segment was genuinely something to behold. The care he took in giving his responses to those people’s heartfelt questions was inspiring.
To Dr. Peterson: I hope your trip to see your Father today went well and I wish you and your family the best.

Yeah I went and saw him on the 16th in LA and MAN as long as you're attentive and following his train of thought, he puts your mind on a whole different level! I find it so funny (but also lol how fitting!) that the most effective person to teach out of the Bible in today's age isn't a pastor or even a professing Christian... it's a damn psychologist! A brilliant one at that, but still, how perfect and ironic.
The more I hear and see about Reagan the more I understand what an unbelievable man he was.
I was 8 years old when he was inaugurated. He established the blueprint in my mind of what an American president should be. I don't mind telling you, every single president sense him has been a letdown in this regard. If you want to see how a badass confronts evil on the world stage, look up Reagan's famous speech at the Brandenburg Gate - "Mr. Gorbachev, *tear DOWN this wall!"*

His utter CONTEMPT for the working-class marked the beginning of the end for the American Middle-Class. The Regan Presidential Library is the most visited Presidential Library in the United States of America. It's a wonderful place to visit. It even serves Ronald Reagan's personal recipe of Chili with Cornbread in its Cafe.
I visited recently, it was great! Most of the volunteers were older folks that were super nice and excited to be there.

My favorite baseball movie too. The Natural is up there along with Major League for vastly different reasons obviously, but those the top 3 IMO.

Finally, an actor willing to portray one of our greatest presidents w/ reverence instead of a leftist skew of contempt. While recent presidential surveys are cooked propaganda, bearing no resemblance to fact or reality, the only survey that matters - We The People- places him at or near the top of every list. What he taught us about fighting Communism is more important now than ever.

Reagan won in a landslide election like none since George Washington. The Democrats were entirely shocked that he had defeated their expected shew-in. They couldn't defeat him in the media either, because he was unflappable in front of the cameras.

I thought it was nice in that respect as well. Both Dennis and Jordan except the fact that Trump is human with flaws, but the bully aspect may very well be why he is feared and respected by other world leaders. While Im like Dennis, I often say what the heck are you trying to do Trump, just keep it to yourself. I do not think he should make up names for people and bash them. If you do not like their policies then just state why and go on and show how you can make it better.
Trump's inability to control his reactions is his Achilles' heel. Hopefully he'll have learned in the past few years.

Excellent interview. Ronald Reagan deserves to be the subject of a film at last, it's probably true to say he was the last really good President the USA had. He was 69 when he took office, so a good bit younger than the present incumbent and his main challenger. He had a great rapport with both the Queen ( a shared love and understanding of horses) and Margaret Thatcher, US - UK relations were good back then. It's easy to forget that Reagan was close to death after being shot early in his Presidency and suffered major blood loss, and as a result his brain was starved of oxygen which would have impaired his cognitive abilities considerably. To me he always came across as a thoroughly decent man of integrity. He could laugh at himself too, as seen by his appearances on Dean Martin's Celebrity Roasts on occasions, including being the "roastee" himself on one occasion. He was a fine communicator and had a lovely speaking voice. Hopefully the film will remind Americans of what a decent politician is like. Enjoyed this conversation greatly, thanks to Dennis Quaid and Dr Peterson.

Now it's even bigger. Both sides keep growing government. Trump did a little by repealing regulations. but what one President can repeal, the next can reinstate. Dennis Quaid became one of my favourite actors when I as a Tolkien-mad child found Dragon Heart in the local Blockbuster.
I’m very excited for this conversation. I have been connecting Trump with Reagan in my thoughts, just as I have been connecting Biden with Carter (except President Carter is a good man, if a lousy president) and it makes me smile that someone else saw the connection as well. And although I don’t know a lot about Star Wars… Star Trek is my fandom and where I’ve done my academic work… I’m just nerd enough to smile over it.

I lived through the Reagan era. I would say there are very few similarities between Reagan and Trump on a personal level. Reagan was a classy guy and not a narcissist, whereas Trump can be petty, immature and way to vulnerable to sycophantic overtures. I am not saying Trump was/will be a bad President, because his personality failings did not imprint on his policies. One thing they DID have in common was that they were/are both establishment outsiders.. one an actor, the other a businessman.. and both fiercely detested by the DC elites.

I was 17 when Reagan took the oath of office in January of 1981. From what I remember, Quaid laid out the similarities between Reagan and Trump in a very reassuring way.
And Quaid at 70 is also reassuring...
Innerspace is one of my very favorite performances of Dennis' along with The Rookie and The Right Stuff.

Breaking Away is my favorite movie. I saw it when it first came out for the bicycle racing as I was about 12 and my older cousin was an avid racer and he took me to see it. Years later it became my favorite movie as I understood what it all actually meant. Dennis is a great star, he's done some great movies and he seems to be a regular guy which is refreshing. And who doesn't also love his crazy brother?

This is now my favorite interview ever. Complete honesty from both people and complete understanding of their differences. I loved this hour! I have a lot more respect for Dennis now than I ever had. We boarded horses next to Ronnie's "Yearling Row" horse breeding ranch in the Malibu mountains during the mid-1960s which he sold for a LOT of money, some say well over market value as a "campaign contribution". My father would spit out the window as we drove by. Dad was a Teamster union organizer.

Reagan was very popular with Malibu Lake residents when he was a local and frequented Sam Perkins' general store that used to be across the street from his main gate.The future California Governor and U.S. President was an accomplished horseman and enjoyed jumping gates on his property. This Reagan Ranch was the second of three that existed in his lifetime. The first was in Northridge and the most famous ranch - his presidential retreat - was near Santa Barbara. Looking back at the film catalog of Dennis Quaid, I never realized how many movies he has made that I love. When it comes to older actors, he is one of my favorite. I look forward to seeing him play Reagan, who is my favorite president during my lifetime.

It’s a really great one and it can never be found anywhere to watch without extra fees. Too bad.
I normally don't enjoy actor interviews as they expose most as needing a good writer to be interesting but Quaid is the exception that proves the rule. As an actor.... his Doc Holiday was incredible and his Dick Vermeil was stunning in American Underdog. Regarding Movie Stars.... I agree, less history more mystery.... musicians as well... everyone's story is so overplayed today it is sad.
I think some of it has to do with we know how they feel politically, are outspoken about their beliefs, criticize those who don’t think like them, so they alienate half of their audience. It was better when we didn’t know anything about them. We just wanted to be entertained

Wonderful interview. Dennis Quaid is the coolest guy. I’ve met him twice, once when he won one of the University of Houston Alumni Outstanding Alumnus Awards & once on the day he moved his daughter on to the UH campus. He is such a genuine person; what you see is exactly who he is & I’m proud he’s a fellow Houston Cougar.

I was very excited and relieved when I saw that Dennis Quaid was playing Reagan. Because I trust him to do a good job and that it wouldn't be a hit piece.

Great conversation. I didn't know much about Reagan in my youth and definitely didn't vote for him. Now in my adult life, I'd like to kick that young me in the arse. Reagan truly was a great man and I'm very much looking forward to seeing Dennis portray him. I've always loved Dennis and know he will do an amazing job portraying a man who now I know was great. "The purpose of drama..." - I'm curious to hear what Dr. Peterson would think about The Chosen. Wonder if he's watched it yet? For my part I believe it's the greatest thing that has ever happened to portray the gospel of Jesus Christ theatrically and once all 7 seasons are complete will truly change the world.

I was a kid when I first watched that movie, and of course looked up to all the astronauts. As I got older, the nuances of Quaid's role -- youth and brashness -- really became apparent. Great performance!
Everybody in The Right Stuff was great but Dennis made Gordon Cooper bigger than life.

I just realized who Dennis Quaid is! He’s in _Soul Surfer_ !!! That’s my favorite movie ever, except for _Shadowlands_ with Anthony Hopkins! Oh my goodness, Dr. Peterson, I’ve been thinking for AGES that you and Tammy might love to connect with Bethany Hamilton. She’s a beautiful human being, a professional surfer, wife and mother, and she’s fighting the good fight for women’s sports. I believe Riley Gaines looks up to her. I think you two would adore Bethany.

How refreshing to see the depth of Dennis Quaid; he really is a history buff, and I greatly enjoy seeing someone besides myself promoting being an Independent! Biggest annoyance and disappointment: JP's inability to hold his tongue. Interrupting is RUDE and beneath him. Hopefully he'll take more breaths and lay off any caffeine prior to conversations. He did this also to Douglas Murray, who like Dennis, appropriately just kept talking and made JP seem the impetuous one. With respect, there's room for growth there. Blessed be the ties that bind.
D.Q's an underrated actor, easygoing, no fuss kind of guy. "Flight of the Phoenix" is still one of my favourites. He has matured well and without any of the Hollywood pretence.
Dennis has the confidence and intellect to hear both sides. Robert De Niro's TDS would've taken over.

Man, I miss Reagan. I had the fortune of working as an usher at the 84 Republican convention in Dallas. I somehow fineagled my eay to usher on the front center row. I was about 15 feet away from him when he gave his acceptance speech after the Morning in America video. I still get chills up my spine thinking about it. Sooooo much pride we had in America.
These two are so normal! It is almost shocking but delightful. Their approaches are so different and it is obvious in this interview. Yet they are able to communicate with each other so well. Refreshing.

Though he could not expect to continue to get great guests if he’d rate them, I have to think that this is among Jordan’s favorite interviews. Dennis is more challenging than any other that I’ve heard. Even Dr Phil, though very good, did not govern the conversation like Dennis. I found it interesting to hear a little about how Dennis thinks, though this interview conspicuously lacked any sense of conclusion on any subject. (For a Peterson interview) Reagan is the star here. I appreciate Dennis’ perspective yet I must say that his impressions of the nineties may have been affected by his implied / admitted drug ab/use. Can’t wait to see the film. Thanks Jordan!!!
