You can still see the wood pillar in the wood ceiling but it's not as bad as ASE. You can put a pillar half way with a quarter wall but you can't have any foundation near it when placing. The biggest thing for official servers is that you can pick up anything without a timer and when you pick something up that is supporting something else you pick up everything so nothing gets trashed.
Oh wow that's incredible, we haven't been able to stay on official for long enough to test so we didn't like to make assumptions but that is a god send! Thanks for your comment
One useful thing for the secret door wall. For those that keep storage all lined up against an outer wall? Use secret door walls behind them, then you can walk your loaded dino up to that spot, open the wall, take everything from dino then transfer to storage without having to carry smaller loads back and forth.
To get the pillar 'in the middle', you can 'cheat' it by replacing the foundation (or floor) by just 4 quarter tiles, then it will get a cornersnap on each square and thus in the middle of those 2.
Another great addition is removing the bottom structure and it doesn't destroy all the connected pieces. It returns them to your inventory. And this includes placeables like forges and storage devices
An extra fun tip is that this works with destroying the bottom structure, too. If you destroy it, it destroys the rest, but you get the 50% of materials from everything destroyed, not just the bottom structure. For the destruction option, I have only done this with buildable structures (such as a foundation with many walls and ceilings) and have not tried anything like a smithy or vault on it.
18:07 Example: GC picked up a pillar with a ceiling attached, and instead of destroying the ceiling, it put it back into his inventory with the pillar.
I guarantee you that all of these changes were at the behest and adamancy of the S+ mod devs that they hired in. 100% they are the reason for all of these changes.
I wonder if the devs spent some time playing Conan Exiles and Valheim. I'm really diggin' the new build system and it feels like they drew inspiration from those games.
for circles you can basically use pilars, quarter walls and stuff to snap the foundation starting from a fence foundation, just take a few extra steps the one feature that they kinda removed with that is the double layer wall, we used to do that a lot when we took scorcher, to have an outer metal wall about in the same place of an adobe one for insulation, it was basically a single wall that was metal outside and adobe on the inside
You can still do circles just need think through foundations placements, for example alternate triangle foundation to square back n forth, then attach squares to the outside of the triangles n squares to the outside of triangles, alternate each ring out you go
He is aware of the regular circle it's the 'perfect circle' or 'perfect curve' he is referring to. As shown at 2:38 in the video. It is no longer possible to use the technique that was used for that.
With the new quarter pieces you can get around snapping a pillar in between two other pillars in the foundation. Using a quarter wall you can snap a ceiling half way next to the foundation, then snap the pillar to the ground on the edge of the ceiling that's in the middle of the foundation. Remove ceiling and half wall and done :)
Just saw your video. At 12:15 you say you don't get to float things anymore. While you can't use only pillars, you can use foundations. As long as you have foundations underneath and at least one pillar set connecting to said foundations, you can create a floating base. I know this as I spam covered the ground with foundations, built upwards by 4 pillars off 1 foundation, then put a ceiling on top and started building outwards. I could continue to put down ceilings until 3 out from where the foundations on the ground stopped. Only one pillar set transferring the foundation support to the top above. I put in a few more just for aesthetics. (Need further testing to see if this can be done using fence foundations instead.) TL;DR: You can do floating bases over the top of foundations, as long as one pillar column connects the floating structure and foundation layer underneath.
Its been years since i played and just got into it again with the new release thanks to butchx3 videos. He is so entertaining! I forgot just how difficult the building was in ASE. Coming into ASA its so intuitive now I didnt even realize. It just makes it so easy and makes so much sense. My hats off to the devs for really improving the game in so many aspects.
Good to hear you've come back 😀 sounds like your really enjoying it too! I know right, they've done an incredible job at improving so much in ASA especially the building. It's incredible!
Thanks for this! I’ve been playing since launch I still didn’t know some of this! So much has changed and I’m loving it! It’s really breathed new life into ark. Liked and subbed!
RE: circles - I've watched 3 videos so far, where the person made either a "perfect" circle (2 of them) or near to it. So keep experimenting; it is still possible. RE: pillar snap point in the middle of a foundation - have you tried placing a quarter wall, then snapping a pillar to it?
The cool thing about the Quarter Wall is that you can alternate between a flipped quarter wall, or a full guard rail. (You actually get more bang for your buck with the full guard rail, because it occupies a full ceiling side, whereas it would take two quarter walls to occupy a ceiling side. This way, you don't have to use two quarter walls to make a single guard rail.) Again, this is if you want to make guard rails.....which are very handy when building things like sniper/scout towers so you don't accidentally fall off your tower. The guard rail feature is also stackable, so you can place a guard rail on top of another. With the quarter wall feature, it is good to make a barricade from which you can hide behind and then shoot out.
The beauty is wildcard has stated that building is still a work in progress more updates coming, more snap points and such sounds really good. You should check out the updated vacuum chambers, complete "Game Changer" for underwater building.
It amazes me that, what seems like some minor changes, excites everyone but also makes everything seem so much better. Im on console and i cant wait for this to lamd on PS. @GameChanger_Games sorry for a late response, but the only other survival game I've played is Stranded Deep. I stopped playing because I couldn't get past the first little island you're stranded on 😂 Other than that, I'm playing Ark, Apex Legends(which absolutely infuriates me😡), God of War, Red Dead II.....I'm everywhere man 😁
One more thing on the pillars and foundations, you "float" 3 ceilings and then need to put a foundation or pillar, but if you do the second 3 and the pillar or foundation then you can delete the previous foundation/pillar. So if you place a foundation and then skip 6 spaces and put another foundation you can float 6 ceilings in a row both sides.
Some of these features are amazing and much needed like the raising and lowering the foundations absolutely needed that But all the things that have been removed is a problem I really hope I can still build foundations on the raft If you can’t extend a 10 x 10 foundations, snapping stone foundations under thatch ceilings. Unacceptable.
Boats and skiffs are counted as platforms now. You can't use ceiling trick to extend foundations, you can't put large and behemoth cellar doors on platforms.
I wish they could give the horizontal pillar a bit more functionality by allowing it to extend foundation support. For example floating bridges (no pillars) - you can extend them over foundation support until they are supported on both sides then tear out the middle support but because the pillars have foundation support on both sides they still count as a vertical pillar would.
Using a quarter wall on the foundation and then snapping the pillar to the quarter wall will allow you to place it in the middle edges of the foundation

Hey ggreat video just started playing ASA 2 weeks ago. Question on the pillar ceiling floors. I was able to to run a fukton of flooring with a serious overhang when ASE you could only go one adjacent to each floor side. Is there a weight limitation on this serious cantalever? Thanks again for the great vid!
We haven't really watched other build videos as of yet. Great to hear there is still a way!!! Might have known Fatdog would figure it out 😀 what a legend!!! Thank you 👍
Yes those are the regular circles. He's taking here about the circles with perfect curves., fortunately it seems people have come up with new ways of doing them since we made this video 😀
Could the early way of doing circles with extending out the fence foundations on the ground at various angles be done now? I can't get ASA for a while, so I can't try it myself, so when you said about the circles not being able to be done, I thought maybe the old/original way before the fence foundations being placed on foundations might be a possibility with some fiddling.
It's such a shame isn't it 😔 it seems to be getting better with each patch they do. Plus playing around with some settings has helped a bit. We're waiting for it on xbox but who knows how the frames will be on there 😮
A lot of these things are positive. Can't wait (but will have to u_u ) until I can finally can play ASA. It is my understanding, however, that the greenhouse tier did not get most of the new fancy pieces ? Man, glass pyramid would be so cool...
Yeh the greenhouse set comes with its own triangle from the original game 😕 we haven't checked if you can flip it or anything yet tho. The walls don't look quite as good as they used to either, which is a shame.
Can you use the horizontal pillar to extend the ceiling out you didn't try that. Place pillar then horizontal, pillar etc maybe that's a way to extend it out. Captain Fatdog was playing with that for a Rex trap yesterday. Seemed to keep the snap connection that's broken by the individual pillars broken connection. Just a thought.
One thing about ceilings snapping level with foundations is that you can no longer snap foundations under them. Ive been trying to find more foundation snap points to extend my raft footprint but so far im stuck to the 3x3
We've seen some people on our official server with really long raft builds. We've not been watching anyone elses build videos but I'm guessing someone found a new way!
Well you can you just need to learn the new building mechanics I was the same at first but after I messed around with them I soon learnt how to use all the new structures it is still possible to do vertical and horizontal offsets
yes but there are no snap points to link them together by doing that. you can do the offset.... that's fine if all your going for is to make the ground look nice on a muddy or rocky ground but not having the same points removes the link in foundation chain... means you can only build out 3 ceiling tiles in either direction from one foundation. doesn't seem like a big deal but alog of custom builds from evolved were based on those foundation snap points.... maybe a mod will give it back to us although i hate using mods for that stuff.@@VladsMadness
Raising foundations is great and all.. but is it not going to screw up the roof real bad? And what about loooong ramps.. do I still have to fill the underneath with foundations?
All snapped structures now snap at a full wall height, half wall height, or the current height. (Depending on the available snap points of the structure, sometimes it's only one or two of those options) You can place the first foundation at any height, but any snapped to it as you go uphill will snap at an even half or full wall height (half for sure, not 100% sure about a full height) and will not snap at any other random height. All structures seem to be this way now. Pillars snap at a full wall height, slope ceilings are a full wal height, and ramps are now half a wall height. It is all very even, almost like it's on a grid ( it has been hard to break snap points or find odd heights for extra custom builds like ASE, but it's worth the convenience of the new stuff)
Yes on ASA you can raise and lower foundations. But in some cases if the land your building on is very uneven you will have to resort to pillar and ceiling like on ase.
The old usual method with snapping foundations to pillars and repeating doesn’t work, but there is a method I think snapping foundations to fence foundations, and I might be wrong but I think you can just lower them as you place them. There hasn’t been a method I’ve found to extend raft foundations tho, which isn’t a huge deal since you can build out 3 ceilings instead of 2.
It scares me that you can’t run pillars anymore. How are you going to build underwater pens? It would be so difficult now. That was an amazing feature of the ASE build systems. Looking forward to trying these new pieces though.
You can place a pillar, snap a sideways pillar to it, and then snap an upright pillar on the other end. You can leave or remove the sideways pillar. It gets the same next snap point as before, but it requires an extra step. You could alternatively place a pillar, then a ceiling (at the ceiling corner), followed by another pillar on the other corner of the ceiling. Once again, you can keep or remove the ceiling. Hope that helps 😀
Thank yooouuuuu! We thought they were good until we seen the min requirements for ASA and then people with better pc's started flexing at us 😂🙈 thanks for the sub 👍 it's much appreciated 😀
You have to use creative mode in single player. You need to enable console commands in settings (advanced) first then you can access it in game from the pause menu.
@@GameChanger_Games yep the one your talking about are extremely possible maybe do some research first before making the video or at least take the advice after the video is made nothing wrong with being wrong
It sounds like youre happy aobut the wrong things The fact that theres no difference between ceiling and foundation (that little step up), this privded 32 extra snap points at 32 different heights to mess with things like spiral staircases and so much more, now you cant do that The non double stacking pillar, same thing, less snap points, not a good thing The fact that a ceiling now allows a hanging wall to snap below it, is another loss of snap points To compare al the above to Lego, its like we now only have full height bricks, we dont have all the thin biscuit bricks, basically new ARK has less bricks, which means less creativity possible All the things you are pleased have been added, were available with S+ Mod, so we have gained nothing, and lost lots I already mentioned in my other post, Perfect Circles are back, Captain Fatdog's 100k subscriber video, he wrote "100k" on the beach using foundations, perfectly aligned at 15 degree increments
You can still see the wood pillar in the wood ceiling but it's not as bad as ASE. You can put a pillar half way with a quarter wall but you can't have any foundation near it when placing. The fence post change was more or less due to pvp. You could layer your walls and break foundation really easily.

yes but there are no snap points to link them together by doing that. you can do the offset.... that's fine if all your going for is to make the ground look nice on a muddy or rocky ground but not having the same points removes the link in foundation chain... means you can only build out 3 ceiling tiles in either direction from one foundation. doesn't seem like a big deal but alog of custom builds from evolved were based on those foundation snap points.... maybe a mod will give it back to us although i hate using mods for that stuff.@@VladsMadness
@@aarongraddy4862 it's only early days and the Dev's are willing to listen to what we are looking for in the building and other aspects of the game
Raising foundations is great and all.. but is it not going to screw up the roof real bad? And what about loooong ramps.. do I still have to fill the underneath with foundations?
Nope it doesn't seem to make a difference 🙂 we haven't tried the long ramps yet! Will give that a go. Thank you!
All snapped structures now snap at a full wall height, half wall height, or the current height. (Depending on the available snap points of the structure, sometimes it's only one or two of those options)
You can place the first foundation at any height, but any snapped to it as you go uphill will snap at an even half or full wall height (half for sure, not 100% sure about a full height) and will not snap at any other random height.
@@Deathangle0j0 thanks
Pvp meta is gonna be pyramid shell bases now with honey comb interiors. Less sides = more line of site better defense use.
Did the fix the problem with non flat land screwing your building? I’m building a base in ASE and literally cannot build it correctly at all
Yes on ASA you can raise and lower foundations. But in some cases if the land your building on is very uneven you will have to resort to pillar and ceiling like on ase.
All they have to do is drop in curved walls and fence foundations and ur set to different sizes . Kind of what's in grounded
Someone will probably make a mod for that 👌be nice to have it in the base game tho.
Can you sink foundations into a raft still?
Oohhh I'm not sure. Will have to try 👍
Yes you can
despite all the improvements some peopl are still complaining claiming its terrible and it should be like valheim.
Omg really? I suppose you can't please everyone!
You can still build a circle
Yes we heard since making this video that people have found a new technique for the perfect circle 👍😀
@@GameChanger_Games good vid though. I’m console so erm just waiting 😂
@@GameChanger_Games I honestly thought they would bring in stacking foundations like atlas
As a PC player all I see is the graphical change :P
For the circle, do ceilings work instead of foundations or nah?
No unfortunately. But apparently people have found other methods to do them!
@@GameChanger_Games Oh sweet, good to know thanks!
Bricktop the ark builder
We just looked up BrickTop. 😂🤣😂
@GameChanger_Games one of my favorite movie characters. Kept on thinking during the vid, "this guy sounds familiar" then it dawned on me
When s+ becomes base kit:
Funny story…. The S+ creator now works for wildcard 😮
@@tylerwallace8607 I didn't know that! Well that makes sense! That was such a good call for wildcard 👍😀
@user-zl1vfme1p Exciting times 😍
curious to see how easy a pyramid will be to make
I think he's probably going to test that out soon!
Structure limits isn't a thing anymore if I remember correctly if u attached 100 things together the game reads 1 thing?
Woah for real? How do we check that? 👀
@@GameChanger_Games the game will run better so build 20 buildings in evolved and ascended and fly with a pt and see how game performes🤷♂️🙂
It scares me that you can’t run pillars anymore. How are you going to build underwater pens? It would be so difficult now. That was an amazing feature of the ASE build systems. Looking forward to trying these new pieces though.
I know, it's a bit daunting not having that 😕 we used it so much. Maybe the is another way that we haven't found yet 🤞
@@GameChanger_GamesIt is a Other way, i tell you on the next stream 😅 i have my first tamed mosa 😂😂😂
@@Deathangle0j0 that does help, thank you. I can’t wait till the 14th.
"We are on a bit of a shit PC."
-I look at specs and see they are about the same as mine. =(
+1 sub XD
Thank yooouuuuu! We thought they were good until we seen the min requirements for ASA and then people with better pc's started flexing at us 😂🙈 thanks for the sub 👍 it's much appreciated 😀
You sound like John Lennon
😂🤣😂
On console how do you float around while you are building to see different angles
You have to use creative mode in single player. You need to enable console commands in settings (advanced) first then you can access it in game from the pause menu.
You can push and hold the map button then choose orbital camera, it's not perfect but it helps
no more 4 layers walls for pvp
Maybe someone will find a new method!
well I hate to tell you but it is very possible to do circle builds on ASA
Not the ones were talking about with the 'perfect curves' used for the build at 2:38 unfortunately.
@@GameChanger_Games yep the one your talking about are extremely possible maybe do some research first before making the video or at least take the advice after the video is made nothing wrong with being wrong
a content creator that gets right to the point of the video? Say it ain't so.
They need to fix performance
Yeh we haven't been able to play official much 😔 do you know how the servers are running now? Still getting kicked a lot?
Appreciate the foul mouth m8...haha😑
He just can't help himself 🤣 No barrier when he's excited about something🤦♀️
bro u can literelly build Way more...
Honest building is dead for me just ruined just feels impossible to build anything cool without some mods to fix shit

It sounds like youre happy aobut the wrong things
The fact that theres no difference between ceiling and foundation (that little step up), this privded 32 extra snap points at 32 different heights to mess with things like spiral staircases and so much more, now you cant do that
The non double stacking pillar, same thing, less snap points, not a good thing
The fact that a ceiling now allows a hanging wall to snap below it, is another loss of snap points
To compare al the above to Lego, its like we now only have full height bricks, we dont have all the thin biscuit bricks, basically new ARK has less bricks, which means less creativity possible
All the things you are pleased have been added, were available with S+ Mod, so we have gained nothing, and lost lots
I already mentioned in my other post, Perfect Circles are back, Captain Fatdog's 100k subscriber video, he wrote "100k" on the beach using foundations, perfectly aligned at 15 degree increments
