I'm waiting to buy my first headset for the 3s. I'm getting a new PC first to get it ready for PCVR. It also gives me a month or so seperation for the cost of both. I cant wait to get into VR!!
I think they are naming this wrong. Previously, you had the Oculus Rift and the Rift S which signified a later, upgraded version no? When I hear the name 3s, my expectation is that it’s going to be an upgraded version of the 3, not the 2 you know?
Well, we'll have to wait until it's officially announced, but if it is pretty much a Quest 3 with stripped down lenses, etc., to be more like a Quest 2.5, then a Quest 3 Lite naming would have made a little more sense. For example a Switch Lite is every bit of a Switch as a Switch or Switch OLED in that it has the same chipset hardware, but it's just smaller screen and form factor and without the ability to connect to TV. Then again, naming schemes are never consistent anyway, so I never just take them at face value in the first place. Xbox Series S? X? DS Lite? (Is literally just a better, slimmer DS with no downsides, so it doesn't fit my description of a "Lite" version above.) Slim? Pro? I'm almost wondering if S could stand for slim in this particular case.
rift s wasn't really an upgrade over the rift. for nearly every upgrade there was a downgrade. better resolution but lost the oled screens. no need for external tracking but in the early days that came with far worse controller tracking.
As someone with a Q2, I'd rather save up for a Q3. As you mentioned, this seems more aimed at consumers who don't yet have a headset and want a cheaper alternative.
If zucks want more ppl into VR, why not try introducing flat games to the quest platform. Here's why, most people don't play VR because they get nausea easily that's why they stick to flat screen games. Imagine if u can play call of duty anywhere u go and play with any other platform via crossplay with just a tiny bag in hand. It's totally possible as the virtual tv doesn't take up the entire screen in your headset thus the resolution won't be that high. Probably around 720p which isn't a problem for the almighty quest 3 to render with a constant 60 fps. But of course as usual the graphics will have to be downgraded for the AAA title to run on a mobile hardware that's for sure. Still, I think with that it's gonna attract much more players to join the VR community. Not only that, when more and more flat games are brought in to the quest platform, both meta and game developers are gonna make much more money from it and playerbase also increase drastically. Its a win win situation. Imagine playing a fps game turning with thumbstick like a normal console controller while aiming at the virtual tv with your right controller. The crosshair shows where you are pointing at, and the in game character weapon also correspond to your aim in real time. Feels like console controller+mouse. People will be amazed when VR flat screen players beat the PC players via crossplay and imagine when PC isn't the master race no more. VR master race yo!
This comment is incredibly underrated. This is exactly why I and many of my friends haven't bought into the VR either yet. Let me pay those games and I'm all in.

Sick right? And wherever ur travelling to, all u need is to carry that tiny little bag with u. And some tiny powerbanks as a plus. And there u go, u can play cod, battlefield, cs2, dead by daylight, u name it, with other platform players across the globe anytime anywhere. Seems like meta isn't particularly smart when it comes to creativity in making money.
@@hanknkh Exactly! That's what I've always wanted VR to be and I think many others do as well. That's why AR glasses are so popular but imagine adding VR controls to the mix. I think it will happen. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.
@@ChildYoda nah..I don't think meta will take fan's suggestions into consideration. That method aside, actually VR controller can mimic a mouse too. What if u can use any table or any flat surface as your mouse pad for your VR controller and turn your quest into a mini portable PC and play fps games by mimicking a mouse with a VR controller. And then u can have a virtual monitor and a virtual keyboard(when the game requires more buttons).
Awesome news! More choice is great news for the consumer! Also Quest 2 has been selling double the units as Quest 3 so it makes sense for them to have an upgraded Quest 2 version
Well its basicly gonna be the same as the q3 but with lenses of q2 so i think its going to sell pretty well. Cant forget that this will also support the new games that cant be played on q2
I believe it will because the general public is still not willing to pay ~$500 for VR but ~$250 is a big difference to "see what it's about". I know I have been waiting for VR to get to a certain point before purchasing and this is an enticing option.
Well the Quest2 sold more than all other VR sets combined and Quest 3S has now the same power to play games in the same way as Quest3, just slightly lower res and poorer lenses... I cannot image this NOT selling well!
I think they are fine with a standalone, they can't carry the entire VR market. Other headset companies need to find a way to subsidize their costs and make an affordable product. you would think valve could do this since they take a cut from every VR game sold on steam. If they could sell the steam deck nearly at cost they have to be able to do something for pcvr.
0:13 - Probably not, at least its hard to beat the clearance price of the Quest 2, most likely Quest 3S won't be cheaper than that... so probably no rush for it over the Quest 2... you can most likely still just link to computer and still play VR, so not missing much.
They need to find a way to make cheaper pancake lenses, they're the game changer for me, the lenses in the Quest 2 were horrible, so the 3s is a bit of a joke.
According to statistics there are so many Quest 2 users. It can be a good update for them and even for the games themselves, as developers can implement better graphics due to the more powerful chip
Selling the Q3S without controllers and enabling the Q2 controllers to be used with the device would not only nudge a lot of Q2 owners to upgrade at a cost savings, but would provide a much better tracking experience than the awful Q3 controllers, which function very poorly in many sports games, especially in those in which attachments are used to increase immersion.
This should have more focused on screen improvement and pancake lenses, with less focus on standalone vr rendering and AR. It will be nice if they bring out a different line of headsets focused on PC VR, maybe call it oculus or something.
I owned the Quest 2 and now have the Quest 3...I'm actually very happy with the 3 and I wish Quest would make a Pro Gaming version for the Quest in the same way they made a Pro version for productivity....

I have been on the lookout for upgrading my quest 2, which I haven't really played as much as I used to due to its heaviness on my small sized head which gives me about 2 hours of gametime to be fully enjoyable for me. I was planning on waiting to get quest 3 when it goes on sale. But now that you mentioned of a smaller scale sized 3 with the upcoming S including the more affordable talking points on the price points. I'll be waiting out a bit more paintently on upgrading. :)
I just bought the Quest 3 on sale, and I was looking to get the VR Cover exercise facial interface like I have on my Quest 2. It looks like VR Cover isn't supporting the Q3 like they did with the Q2. Are they no longer supporting Quest products? Is there an alternative facial interface similar to the Q2 fitness interface? The extra airflow made VR much more enjoyable for me.
5:54 - The "plus part" isn't relevant he has been trying hard to best the Apple Vision Pro in showing him up, lots of things Apple did could and SHOULD have been easily done from a company (Meta) whose been around longer, plus not all games even NEED a controller... that is just a stall holdover from gamers' being trained to use one for gaming, since a 'better' input option didn't exist yet (example eye-tracking, hand-tracking, more reliable EKG input, voice command, AI (NPC auto guidance), stuff just really needed to be 'good enough' for people to give it a fair shot... like how some PC elitists still swear by Keyboard & Mouse over Game Controller. Even then, I still think VR controllers should have been more like an SNES Button layout (4 buttons), or Sega Genesis/Saturn (6 button)---because parity would be similar to a cut in half controller like the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons (or Pimax's Portal's magnetic controllers).
I hope its cheap and pushes the VR market. Zuck dropped the ball with the whole expensive headset AND meta rubbish. He could have been muuuuuuuuch more ahead of where he is now (which admittedly is still leading but i mean by a country mile).
I want to get rid of my Quest 2 and upgrade to a new headset… But I don’t want to buy a new headset unless I can get rid of my Quest 2 first! Anyone have any advice? Does Meta have a trade-in / buyback program?
Hope is always good, but it seems a bit naive in this case: Meta needs the Quest3s to play the same games at the same rate as Quest3, in order to advance the games market by having a larger base that can play them: so it needs the same processor, RAM etc. as the Quest 3. The only way to make a lower price possible is either leaving the controllers out, which I think is not going to happen, or go with the optics of the Quest2. You like pancakes? Get a Quest3!
Considering how expensive controllers are, making people buy them separately would eliminate the cheaper price and then some, IMO. Which seems unlikely, in my eyes
I don’t think I’m going to upgrade to the Quest 3 since my friends have had problems with the new controllers besides I mainly use my Quest 2 as a PCVR headset.

@@arnovanwingerde8589 Thank you very much for your interest. Unfortunately, Carina D1 can't charge the battery of Bobo S3 while charging Quest3. At this moment, it is only able to charge the elite strap by Meta. This part is controled by Firmware in Quest 3. We can't only provide enough power but can't change the charging protocal.
5:26 - Taking this part into consideration... it seems dumb that so many Quest 2 'best' games were retired since at the very least they'd perform fine on this headset.
Hi, what is that game I see being played with figures being moved around a dungeon/castle in AR? Like D&D. I've had a search but can't find it. Need something like this for my Q3. Q3s will be a welcome addition especially around the Q2 price as the colour AR games really grabbed the people I've shown it too.
When is Quest 4 due? 2025 or 2026? I'm waiting to see what Pico's new headset offers this year. Wouldn't mind a cheap HMD just for the Piano Vision app.
Leave it to Meta to take a massive step back and waste time effort and money building a worse experience than the Q3 and barely an upgrade at all for the current Q2 users. Why would anyone buy this crap. If you can't afford the Q3 then just stick with the Q2 and wait for the launch of the Q4 and then the prices of the Q3 will drop. If I still had my Q2 I wouldn't upgrade to the Quest S and spend money on a device that is only a tiny incremental bump up.

Why is Meta bothering to creating a new product to replace the Q2 that isn’t worth it for them to redesign and create a whole new assembly line and distribution and not worth the insignificant upgrade or cost to replace it for Q2 customers.

Im hoping this means that vrchat will drop the support for quest 2 sinc eit looks like thats the inly way they'll make the quest version batter since with the quest 3 it should be able to sulport much mire worlds and avatars but the devs said they arent olaning on doing thay since separating the quest 2 and 3 version would be
we need a quest3 pro for $999 35ppd foveated rendering and eye tracking... and a good headstrap straight out of the box. hopefully valve does this before meta cause i really don't want a meta headset.
The 3 positions ipd adjustment which is the worse in the market is hard pass for me. For this reason, Quest 3s doesn't exist for me only the regular Quest 3
I have a quest 2, but will in no way get a quest product again as they are useless for pcvr (if you don't mind the drawbacks of streaming games instead of native vr. Psvr2 for me all the way and I am beyond excited.
This is perfect for me, I do not want to spend the price of the quest 3 to upgrade, if the 3s is a few hundred £ cheaper with the same processing capabilities as the Q3 I am sold day one!
I'm pretty sure Quest 3 games like Batman, Hitman, Alien, etc, will only be for quest 3. Quest 3s might not be able to achieve that same power. Yes, it might have the same chip, but it also might be made that Quest 3s will not be able to play those games. As well as quest 3 only game updates. So if it doesn't support those games, think of the headset as an upgraded quest 2 in some areas. Even if it does or doesn't, I hope this helped you.

Big boo for Meta. Rather than going one step backward or even questionable one step to the side, it would of been much more business wise to create Metaquest Pro 2 with FULLBODY TRACKING, WITH TRACKING BASED ON QUEST PRO SELF CONTROLLERS BUT FOR FEET! WHY? Because even poor people would rather take out loan for full potential, then basically reshuffling of the same potential, that is simply rehashing of Metaquest Pro Failure. - As in creating product (VR headset) that doesn't live up to performance of its hype vs the price and Metaquest 3S does look like it's failure. I am poor person myself, but as disabled combat veteran I'd rather she'll out equivalent of Vision Pro basically Gaming PC price tag than if it allows FBT and is upgraded version of Quest 3 to its own Pro level, than to pay for another 500$ SIDEGRADE! Mark Zuckerberg doesn't seem to get it in his head that immersion (specifically full body) pays more than just trying to make product cheaper! You need to have Demand first before having Supply for business to work abd Quest 3S is not it. It is pushing Supply of cheaper product when people Demand better immersion to justify the costs.
I don't care about downgrades; I'm waiting for a wider field of view, pancake lenses, and a slimmer ergonomic design. I'll hold out for the Quest 4, and it better be exciting, or I won't get it either. I'm also waiting for the metaverse-or a Matrix-like universe where I can bring my own virtual content and sell original 3D creations..VR lacks a social platform with a functioning economy that isn’t controlled by Meta or other questionable companies . This better be for 50% less to get more people into VR. There is nothing really new about this headset, its just a downgrade to get more costumers into VR.

Hi i really love this review i have a quest 2 i also tryed a quest 3 at a friend but for me it was to perfect i could see the pixel of the lcd's that i did not like that so no pancake lenses should be great for me (i know many dont me now? why) also i have broken 2 set controllers quest 2 so now i have a better quest pro controller set great and better (surely in echo vr but no echo anymore ;-)) so for me it should be great to have this for the lower price and i have already good controllers to an @CasandChary can you put in your list to checkout if the old Prescription lenses i have buyed for my quest2 also will fit if its the same like the quest 2 i also have not to buy a new set. so i can't wait or i have to say i can wait to buy a quest 3S as a upgrade for my quest 3 pretty sure it will have running al the new quest 3 games with the faster CPU also a note if the displays are a little lower in resolutions this wil easy fixed in the game most of the time if devs like to have people to buy the games or a external Quest optimizer will do it to like we do for some games already and because the resolutions is lower it will take less GPU time to render so a faster FPS is also good to know ? faster than the quest 3 😄 thanks for the review

Even then, I still think VR controllers should have been more like an SNES Button layout (4 buttons), or Sega Genesis/Saturn (6 button)---because parity would be similar to a cut in half controller like the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons (or Pimax's Portal's magnetic controllers).
I hope its cheap and pushes the VR market. Zuck dropped the ball with the whole expensive headset AND meta rubbish. He could have been muuuuuuuuch more ahead of where he is now (which admittedly is still leading but i mean by a country mile).

I was thinking about getting the 3s to upgrade from my 2, but if it has fresnel lenses i will not be, i hope it will have pancake.
Hope is always good, but it seems a bit naive in this case: Meta needs the Quest3s to play the same games at the same rate as Quest3, in order to advance the games market by having a larger base that can play them: so it needs the same processor, RAM etc. as the Quest 3. The only way to make a lower price possible is either leaving the controllers out, which I think is not going to happen, or go with the optics of the Quest2. You like pancakes? Get a Quest3!
Considering how expensive controllers are, making people buy them separately would eliminate the cheaper price and then some, IMO. Which seems unlikely, in my eyes
If pricing stays the same, ita going to be insane for people to buy the 3 over the 3s at over double the price for just mainly the lenses.
I don’t think I’m going to upgrade to the Quest 3 since my friends have had problems with the new controllers besides I mainly use my Quest 2 as a PCVR headset.

At this moment, it is only able to charge the elite strap by Meta. This part is controled by Firmware in Quest 3. We can't only provide enough power but can't change the charging protocal.

I don't think so. Quest 3 doesn't render at it's native resolution but only 1680x1760 by default, which is less than Quest 2/3S panels resolution.
Leave it to Meta to take a massive step back and waste time effort and money building a worse experience than the Q3 and barely an upgrade at all for the current Q2 users. Why would anyone buy this crap. If you can't afford the Q3 then just stick with the Q2 and wait for the launch of the Q4 and then the prices of the Q3 will drop. If I still had my Q2 I wouldn't upgrade to the Quest S and spend money on a device that is only a tiny incremental bump up.
i don't see them making a quest 4 so fast . and no game would take advantage of the 4 just as games are just now coming out for the 3.

You probably aren't the target customer. Meta probably wants to discontinue the Q2, and they want an affordable entry level unit to replace it.

Why is Meta bothering to creating a new product to replace the Q2 that isn’t worth it for them to redesign and create a whole new assembly line and distribution and not worth the insignificant upgrade or cost to replace it for Q2 customers.

The 3 positions ipd adjustment which is the worse in the market is hard pass for me. For this reason, Quest 3s doesn't exist for me only the regular Quest 3
I have a quest 2, but will in no way get a quest product again as they are useless for pcvr (if you don't mind the drawbacks of streaming games instead of native vr. Psvr2 for me all the way and I am beyond excited.

I'm pretty sure Quest 3 games like Batman, Hitman, Alien, etc, will only be for quest 3. Quest 3s might not be able to achieve that same power. Yes, it might have the same chip, but it also might be made that Quest 3s will not be able to play those games. As well as quest 3 only game updates. So if it doesn't support those games, think of the headset as an upgraded quest 2 in some areas. Even if it does or doesn't, I hope this helped you.

Big boo for Meta. Rather than going one step backward or even questionable one step to the side, it would of been much more business wise to create Metaquest Pro 2 with FULLBODY TRACKING, WITH TRACKING BASED ON QUEST PRO SELF CONTROLLERS BUT FOR FEET! WHY? Because even poor people would rather take out loan for full potential, then basically reshuffling of the same potential, that is simply rehashing of Metaquest Pro Failure. - As in creating product (VR headset) that doesn't live up to performance of its hype vs the price and Metaquest 3S does look like it's failure. I am poor person myself, but as disabled combat veteran I'd rather she'll out equivalent of Vision Pro basically Gaming PC price tag than if it allows FBT and is upgraded version of Quest 3 to its own Pro level, than to pay for another 500$ SIDEGRADE! Mark Zuckerberg doesn't seem to get it in his head that immersion (specifically full body) pays more than just trying to make product cheaper! You need to have Demand first before having Supply for business to work abd Quest 3S is not it. It is pushing Supply of cheaper product when people Demand better immersion to justify the costs.

I don't care about downgrades; I'm waiting for a wider field of view, pancake lenses, and a slimmer ergonomic design. I'll hold out for the Quest 4, and it better be exciting, or I won't get it either. I'm also waiting for the metaverse-or a Matrix-like universe where I can bring my own virtual content and sell original 3D creations..VR lacks a social platform with a functioning economy that isn’t controlled by Meta or other questionable companies . Meta Horizon Worlds Sansar, or VRChat are crap and Second Life is old. I DON'T CARE ABOUT GAMES ! I WANT THE MATRIX !

get the quest 2 . and if your just doing pcvr you should look at getting a headset just for that.

i have a quest 2 i also tryed a quest 3 at a friend
but for me it was to perfect i could see the pixel of the lcd's that i did not like that
so no pancake lenses should be great for me (i know many dont me now? why)
also i have broken 2 set controllers quest 2
so now i have a better quest pro controller set great and better (surely in echo vr but no echo anymore ;-))
so for me it should be great to have this for the lower price and i have already good controllers to
an @CasandChary can you put in your list to checkout if the old Prescription lenses i have buyed for my quest2 also will fit if its the same like the quest 2 i also have not to buy a new set.
so i can't wait or i have to say i can wait to buy a quest 3S as a upgrade for my quest 3 pretty sure it will have running al the new quest 3 games with the faster CPU
also a note if the displays are a little lower in resolutions this wil easy fixed in the game most of the time if devs like to have people to buy the games or a external Quest optimizer will do it to like we do for some games already
and because the resolutions is lower it will take less GPU time to render so a faster FPS is also good to know ? faster than the quest 3 😄
